Thing is, I have one, and she isn't well received at ALL.

These people hate Bayonetta with a passion from her "impractical" gun heels to unrealistic proportions to her "male gaze" design.

So. Bayonetta is a sexy character who technically goes around naked designed by a guy who is pretty sexist and coded by a studio of men who are all spending their time thinking about the types of sexy moves they want to see Bayonetta do. This for me is the biggest nail in the coffin.

Probably, many of the girls who shout and screech like that at sexy female characters tend to be the self-hating and cowardly type. The sight of fictional tiddy probably reminds them of how ugly they feel and/or are, so instead of improving their looks or their self-esteem to truly feel good about themselves, they blame everyone else for their lack of popularity and project their issues on fictional girls who won't tell them off for their crap.

Even better, they're lying their asses off about Bayonetta. Hideki Kamiya was her creator... but her designer was the very female Mari "Shimako" Shimazaki. Who pretty much states that Bayo is as much of a power fantasy to her as she is to Kamiya. I guess these pathetic whiners just chalked it up to Shimako being "forced" to "degrade herself" to designing sexy women by the evil menz rather than her just doing the job she was hired to...

The thing I appreciated about Bayonetta was that the creator admitted to the protagonist being his sexual fantasy; Jeanne was more Shimako's power fantasy, she admitted. Both characters had a convergence of those two things that would piss BABD off: some sexy character a dude likes, and a woman whose power fantasy involves hilariously weaponized sexiness and glamour. The game was very upfront about what it was instead of pandering and patronizing. It's better to be honest than to lie and tell everyone the walking wet dream is supposed to be "empowered." With Shimako, BABD-types are very quick to write this off as "not knowing any better", being used as a token, or having this mindset to appeal to men. They never step back and consider some women may ID with Bayonetta better than what their ideal would be.
