"ALL SPIDER PEOPLE ARE TRANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
What’s with Gwen’s weird tooth gap?

I just have to ask, are they dressed as cowboys? What else are those outfits supposed to convey?
I think they are supposed to look like kids in the 1950s but Lord knows I wouldn't have a clue who they were supposed to be if it wasn't pointed out. I guess letterman style jackets are a trans thing now? Stop appropriating my jock culture! We are not a costume!

Part of the redesign for Into The Spider-Verse. Here's the normal version of that Spider-Woman (Gwen Stacy of Earth-65) and the one from the movie (idk if a # has been given). Earth-65's Gwen Stacy is just a slightly younger version of the normal one while that movie gave her the tooth gap and the half shaven haircut. Think the movie gave her piercings too but I'm not watching it.

People in the 50's at least knew how to dress like normal human beings.

Wouldn't a hijab not make any sense in this case? She's already wearing a cowl, there's no hair showing.
Shh no you see she has to wear a hijab so that everyone knows how empowered she is, literally super powered, as a muslim womxn. If she was only wearing the cowl then no one would know she was muslima! That wouldn't do at all! It's ok to sacifice some visibility to give visibility (get it?) to women and minorities... : ))

:c

Christ, the color scheme is just...ick. Especially with that orange.

Anyway, there's a really interesting video I watched about art and beauty and how its been corrupted and discarded by our modern society. It got me thinking about how modern artists (both Tumblr and professional) like to make characters uglier in the name of realism.

That brings up an interesting point. Tumblr "artists" seem to think that everyone is, or should be, fucking hideous. Now I'm not going to say that the average person is a 10/10 Greek statue looking Adonis or Aphrodite, but we also aren't all potato nosed, obese, hirsute, midgets, with skin conditions and terrible hair. It's the ideological anatomical opposite to an extreme degree. But the thing is the bodies they cram characters in aren't realistic either, especially not if these are supposed to be extremely physically active athletic heroes. Like how all Olympic athletes aren't all sub 5% body fat but at the same time I've never seen an obese sprinter. So in the pursuit of their idea of "realism" they've made characters just as unrealistic as any Rob Leifeild drawing.

There's no middle ground for these people, really. They seem to think that everyone is this equivalent of a fat tumblrite stereotype, believe that every minority has these grossly exaggerated features, and that body hygiene is a form of the oppressive patriarchy. And the worst part is even if you choose to make artwork for them, it's never enough.

Is it that bad to say, "Hey these characters don't have to be super attractive with double d's and legs for days, but they don't have to be super unhygienic and look like a overcooked hotdog"?

And to be clear, I don't like this mentality on either side of the issue. Like, having a flat-chested, short-haired woman is not the end of the world. You can make that look not necessarily super attractive, but look pleasant. At the same time, people in real life have expectations to hold and not every black person has the same ashy skin tone, bucked teeth, and wide nose just as not every muslim woman wears a burqa or hijab and has a narrow nose.

It's fun watching them "fight against" stereotypes but then make characters out of literally nothing but stereotypes. Many of these artists make black characters that would make a minstrel show stop and say "whoa... tone it the fuck down guys, that's pretty goddamn racist". It's not hard to be attractive outside the popular norm either. There are plenty of men and women that don't fit the "conventionally attractive" mold and yet are considered sex symbols. I really truly do believe most of the awful Tumblr designs and re-designs stem more from places of fetishization and personal insecurities than they do breaking social norms.
