I think it just comes down to “I’m ugly, therefore I love the concept of erasing beauty and people that make me feel bad rather than working to improve my own mental health and self-esteem”

and a lot of times, these people are just unwilling to fix themselves. even the most attractive people will look like shit if they don't give a shit. they don't care about themselves but expect others to still be attracted to them, when it's obvious to tell if someone gives a shit about how they present themselves. however, they're content with whining and wallowing in their insecurity instead of putting in the work to feel better, and look better, because in truth, attitude makes a big difference in someone's attractiveness.

i have no clue if any of that makes sense because i'm shit at articulating anything.

Oh, you are. I only wish people did put in that effort to better themselves.

Part of the redesign for Into The Spider-Verse. Here's the normal version of that Spider-Woman (Gwen Stacy of Earth-65) and the one from the movie (idk if a # has been given). Earth-65's Gwen Stacy is just a slightly younger version of the normal one while that movie gave her the tooth gap and the half shaven haircut. Think the movie gave her piercings too but I'm not watching it.

The reason they gave her that haircut is because Miles accidentally gets his hand stuck in her hair when his powers first start activating and the only way they're able to get him off her is to have a big chunk of her hair shaved off. Prior to that she had the usual Gwen Stacey haircut, but after she just shaved off the entire side to even it out.

And to be clear, I don't like this mentality on either side of the issue. Like, having a flat-chested, short-haired woman is not the end of the world. You can make that look not necessarily super attractive, but look pleasant. At the same time, people in real life have expectations to hold and not every black person has the same ashy skin tone, bucked teeth, and wide nose just as not every muslim woman wears a burqa or hijab and has a narrow nose.
Makes you wonder if someday a backlash against art that doesn't fit the classical beauty ideal will crop up again. Then the vicious cycle would continue.

It's one thing to deliberately make plain avatars for laughs or an art challenge, but trying to pass off utter uglification as perfection is rather Dobsonian. That's why I like the rule of balance: For every "ugly" trait in a personal design (e.g. fuck-off noses), it should be balanced by a conventional one (large earnest eyes).

I don't get how people who use some neon/light color for shading think it looks okay for the shading, cause it just looks like shit. Also what the actual fuck is happening with the shading and how it's placed, it just looks like it was randomly colored on on the screen without any thought. Maybe the original artist was blinded by the neon colors and they couldn't shade it properly. Who knows, who cares.

They're trying to stylize their art without knowing how to do it correctly. They use certain neon colors to stylize art for shading, but they don't apply it in a way that makes sense.

I don't expect younger artists to get everything. You're still learning. But before you try to redraw some cool neon art you should learn to draw a body first. Coloring makes or breaks a picture.

I assume the artist was trying to do something like this:

But the problem is that because the colors are all over the place it has no tone to it. Mixing green and neon pink with yellow is just an awful contrast. It would work better with really only 2 of those colors at most. The characters skin tones also have to be toned down to mix with the neon. But here, the saturation is cranked up so high it strains on the eyes.

I have no problem with experimentation and I hope they improve later on, but right now it's not good.

Neon like this makes me want to puke. It looks like they used a highlighter.

I honestly think this looks great but the hijab is pretty pointless her hair is already coverd plus I wonder why when people draw female muslim characters that fight then give them hijabs is beyond me cause realistically doesn't that put you at risk? What's gonna stop your opponent from grabbing it and using it to their advantage? Also won't it get snagged on something while running or swinging sense it looks pretty loose

You can wear the hijab while fighting. I did a quick search on hijab-wearing MMA fighters and I got these:

But the thing is the cloth that covers their hair is tight. You definitely shouldn't wear a loose scarf around your head in close combat.
