Holy shit, these unholy abominations are every art teacher's worst nightmare. Hell, the (hypothetical) concrit sessions with other students alone would probably make the artist break down into a stereotypical Tumblr tantrum, because there is absolutely NO way the artist even bothered or cared to learn the fundamentals inside and out before they could tweak them for their style.

Throw this in the "cant tell who they are until you're told" pile. Also, having dark skin? fine. She's blue so she could have any skin tone. Why is her hair curly? It's wavy at best in the show. I don't even watch the show and I know this.

The Anime Outsiders podcast made a great point on why SJWs/feminists get so nuts when they see female character's whose outfits show their bellybuttons or have cleavage. That much like the protagonist in Saya no Uta who a can only see things as horrid lumps of meat, they see all these females as if they're from the Monster Girl series (NSFW) in all of it's misogynist, pedophilic, rape-obsessed glory.

And outside of cheeks, her features are pretty pointed. I think this wasn't aiming for cartoony but I still think it maybe could have been a bit less rounded and more long+upturned. If it had that and the wavy hair it'd actually be pretty good, the anatomy doesn't seem particularly off to me.

That said as for the 'ambiguous brown' I have a feeling some do it because drawing a character from a popular fandom as white would probably get them attacked. Can't help but wonder if it's really that fun to draw with a metaphorical bayonet pointed at your back at all times. It can't be that easy to spend time on something knowing that for any reason, one person will declare it 'problematic' and incite a dogpiling... even over things like drawing breasts on a character that's clearly not a child.
