Everything in this is exaggerated and overkill to such an extreme it calls back to a vague, ancient memory I cannot place. I'm thinking it might've been those crappy hologram cardboard binders you get in first grade.

Here's an example of just how poorly-run the classes are there. There was a post in Rory's thread a few weeks ago showing a bunch of sculptures made for a drawing class. Even though they were gross lumps of white plaster someone scribbled on with a sharpie, they got on A because of how "unique" and "subversive" they were.

If you tried that shit at any other art school, you'd get an F for being a lazy jackass who can't follow the parameters of the assignment. The point of drawing classes is to learn to fucking draw, not make a statement.

Also, is your friend exceptional? Why, if she's a comic artist, did she go to an art school with no illustration program?

That's my shitty art school, not calarts. My school believes that anything can be a drawing, but at the same time you can't submit a graphite drawing to a sculpture class.
