I genuinely like this one, it's weird as shit and interesting.
I was somewhat debated on including this one, because this guy's work usually looks nice fun surreal. Whenever he draws "queer art", though, it's always the same Tumblr staple of greasy hobos in thongs. (Is it just a gay thing, not a Tumblr one? Is this something cockstruction workers are into? I need to know)
i really like all the superhero ones by yellowis4happy. then again i dont know or care about superheros so i have no feelings abt these characters at all
Tumblr superhero art's main sin, imo, isn't so much the lack of technical skill but the trend of depicting everyone as crack-addled transvestites while screaming "lololol i'm IMPROVING, look at me".
The superhero genre, shallow as it may be, has it's own artistic and narrative conventions. You can and should break them in order to prevent the genre from stagnating, but it should be done for artistic reasons, not personal ones. The characters being Aryans superhumanely attractive and shit is one of such conventions. Imo, the defining characteristic of SJW art is trying to pass itself as brave, subversive and asking real questions, maaaaaan, while it's artistic choices are rooted in personal insecurities and not understanding the very conventions it's trying to break.
I'm a dumbass; does this thread require pieces at the intersection of Tumblr cringe and shitty art or something more specific regarding its atyle, like Tumblr noses and random rashes?
Muslim goths wear spikes, piercings, leather and silver accessories, skulls, emo/rock/metal shirts, tartan or even lace depending on what kind of goth they are.
That's a thing? If this isn't too offtopic, how to they even get away with it in countries that, judging from the photos, require niqabs or burqas?

:offtopic: Hopefully not going too off topic here, but to answer your question in the west specifically you'll have more freedom to experiment with Hijabs and burqas than in people's home countries. A couple of Muslim friends I knew really experimented with different types of designs for their Hijabs and they look pretty good. They even told me that they had stores for them in their home towns too. Really just like anywhere else, you'll always have people somewhat breaking conventions.
:offtopic:

To get back on topic. I agree with what you have to say on the designs. Most of the artwork is not bad technically. I really do like the cell-shading in the first couple of pieces. The problem is that these people clearly don't know how character design works.

Look at anime or even any other Western cartoon. Unless it's a joke, think about the more buff and burly guys/gals you see. Despite the fact they may weigh more, they're still appealing. The main point of design is to create an appealing character. If you can't do that you fail as a character designer. Even the villains in Disney movies have some sort of appeal or charisma to them. Scar, Malificent, Dr. Facilier, they all have some charisma in their design that was carefully though out with a PERSONALITY.

Tumblr doesn't get this. These people aren't making a design for the sake of appealing to a wide-ranged audience. They're making it for themselves and WANT others to praise them for their insecurities that they project onto their art. A person with Vitilego and 7 genders? Are you for real? You want instant praise for something anyone can come up with if they aren't even trying? The worse part is that you know that's all they put into the character because if you were to ask a person about what that character is like, you get nothing because they don't have anything other than their identity.

There is no thought process behind these designs other than projecting themselves into someone. And I would respect that you have a fetish for that if you didn't try to convince me to like it. What these people don't understand is that you can't make humans like disturbing features. Armpit hair is gross. Not beautiful. Sweat is gross. Not sexy. Leg and arm hair is awful to deal with in real life.

You can't insist on making everything appealing. It just doesn't work. Yeah, there have been ugly characters before, but even then they usually have a nice personality to weight it out. Most of these artists can't even do that.

I figure these pics take place in North America and the EU; but the first picture looks Indonesian, which wouldn't surprise me at all.

They don't have a requirement, but since it's Muslim majority, too, it's a popular option for lots of (non-oppressive) reasons there that I won't derail the thread with, and blend it with the contemporary since they're free to do so. I find the aesthetic relevant to this thread, however, because I don't imagine Tumblr artists bother referencing some of the styles and how they actually get tastefully utilized, for example:

So, if I remember right, Indonesia's one of the Muslim-dominant countries where this kind of stuff (as in the goth part; the lady in the photo is pretty normal and contemporary) isn't a huge deal beyond a few stares and questions.

I very nearly posted this in the "everything is lesbian" thread-- parts of it would certainly fit. The art alone wouldn't really justify sharing but the text that goes with it commits such a variety of tumblr sins that its hard to know where to start.

At first I thought this was a joke (because of the source material), in which case it would be pretty funny. But looking through the OP's blog does not inspire much confidence in me. It looks like they unironically think this is good.

Besides the "uwu lesbians; boys are gross" thing it’s got going on, I was particularly struck by the stereotypical and shallow diagnoses imposed on the characters in order to “improve” them. Depressed people are quiet! People with ADHD have “energy all the time”! (people with ADHD have usually grown out of hyperactivity by the time they are teenagers).

Koneko-chan will be even more horrifying when she gets infected with the rabies.

Not only that, but this TERF (Redkatherinee) has been caught picking fights not just with Tumblr trans, but with non-radfem/non-TERF feminists who think she's a huge misogynist (and I don't blame them) and want her to GTFO. I smell a very promising lolcow/artcow if she keeps up with her BS. :story:
I thought she just drew satirical pictures to make troons mad. I've never seen her pick a fight.

I'm being optimistic here, but they may be trying to make NNSG even worse. Do they do the same thing to other shows?

:offtopic:So these are mostly Western? Huh. I'm sorry for powerleveling here, but some of the countries that neighbor mine are muslim of the more secular kind. Women there just dress normally or, if they're fundies, they go for hijab + conservative clothes. Talking a garb specifically designed to preserve its wearer's modesty and humility and modifying it to look cute/cool/otherwise attract attention is just considered pointless and ridiculous.:offtopic:

This whole comment is A+

1) Jesus Christ. 2) Is it just me, or do these motherfuckers look even more unnerving than regular furry art?

The difference between sjw furry art and regular furry art is that run of the mill furries usually take time to make their characters look appealing, because that's what sells. Sjw art goes out of its way to look ugly (thus breaking heteronormativity or patriarchical beauty standards or whatever)

i agree, tumblrs idea of improving character designs is always making them ten times uglier. sometimes it works, but rarely the way they do it
but THESE characters dont even look bad. they [i assume] gave em dark skin and made em fatter and even gave some of em stretch marks, but they did it in a way thats attractive and pleasant to look at
just further proving 'diversity' doesnt have to be ass ugly. step up ur game, everyone else

Well I did some stupid shit that was worth it, I tweeted the fanart of milky moo to barbiedoll and got instablocked
nice.

Regardless If the fashion is tolerable or not, Indonesia and other Muslim countries do still discriminate heavily against anything LGBTQ, and a lot of these tumblr artists that usually make these Muslim characters will also make them gay, trans, or whatever new gender of the month.
It just proves how these artists would rather indulge in their diversity art and ignore the negative implications of gay Muslim woman in a Muslim country.

Of course. "Amusement Park Islam" is what I've been calling it that these artists play with.
