You know, what gets me about these "muh dark skinned Asian representation" is that they never pick colors that Japanese creators typically use in their own work to depict darker skin tones. Because unless the character is intentionally meant to be a different race, the darker-skinned characters tend to be kept somewhere between the tanned and bronze range - never this desaturated browns or even the hilariously out-of-touch yellows and yellow-browns typically found in Tumblr art.

Today on That's Not How Vitiligo Works!

Why did the third artist draw Tsuyu fat? She's a swimmer with the agility of a gymnast.

The "REEE dark skinned Japanese people exist!1!!1" defense is just a facade. What they actually want to do is draw the characters black because they don't think Japanese people are "non-white" enough. The black artists do it because their racism makes it impossible for them to indentify with someone who isn't black, and the white artists do it as a competition to see who can be the most "woke".

^This! I always notice that these people never seem to look up a color palette for how to make a certain race a darker-skinned character. (I don't think they know any either, but whatever). I guess they all are somehow collaborating with one another to create one ugly color palette, because almost every single dark-skinned asian character I see on that site uses the same type of scheme. They always use this god-awful desaturated brown and it's always the same type of brown. Every. Time. I don't understand why they can't get some reference. One of my Korean friends happens to be tan and in her country tan means 2-3 shades darker than average. (which is very light skinned). The same apply for Japan as well. Unless you are mixed, there is no way you would have that dark a skin color. ESPECIALLY, if you are living in a place as isolated as Japan. If these were characters created somewhere else, like in the U.S. or even from the Caribbean (you have a sizable amount of asian-caribbeans that do have much darker than average skin there) then maybe I could buy it. But I can't.

And what makes it even worse is that they somehow make the characters look even more racist than before! Why is the first idea in these people's heads to go and give the asian character a yellow skin tone, bucked teeth, small eyes and call it progressive?

SJWs don't actually like black/dark skinned characters, they only love the popular and hot white/pale asian ones but they don't want to feel "guilty" for that so they blackwash those characters.

It's a very of a fucked up denial mentality when you think about it. Like the people who insist McCree as mexican so they fetishize him without feeling bad.

To be fair everyone is free to create headcanons and alternate universe settings where characters have different ethnicities or are otherwise changed, its just they never put any thought in it. They don't bother putting thought into cultural heritage such character would have, and they overall only add hijabs to female Muslim characters as cultural aspects. Sometimes they even reduce skin colour to same thing as dyed hair, not putting character family's race into consideration.

Its ironic, they want to diversify the original settings but all the characters come off as the exact same bland average gen Z-er or millennial who was raised in gentrified environment.

He's got moonface syndrome or something, christ.
You can't juxtapose a totally normally proportioned body with a head that has the facial proportions of a Dr. Seuss character.

It causes the character to look like they have some kind of horrific disease.
Mentioning horrific diseases, the unrealistic freckle placement,
(they do just about as much research on freckles as they do for vitiligo--that is to say, none)
their reddish tint, combined with that MASSIVE flush just makes him look like he's contracted Rubella

And WHAT is this gesture? WHAT is he meant to be doing?
This is such a common theme in tumblr art. They just randomly place limbs in whatever direction with no idea what the character is supposed to be doing. No forethought, no planning, resulting in stiff, awkward, uncomfortable to look at poses.

They're likely stapling together non-photo references without understanding the anatomy to know HOW to stick them together. It's a common weeb artist problem. Referencing from other people's art is just about the worst thing you can do. This kind of art inbreeding is what created the fugly tumblr artstyle in the first place-- just stapling together random elements of other, more popular people's styles without any thought for how it will look with their existing style.
Example: Because Jojo got popular now tons of artists are trying to slap these
jojonose.png
huge and detailed noses onto their style, smack between two GIANT anime eyes, resulting in cluttered, ugly faces. Worse yet when they add Steven Universe lips into the mix. They don't understand why the nose works, they just copy cool things and shorthands they see other artists using.
