In complete fairness, I was not expecting nearly as many recognizable hands as I saw in this post based on the prior work presented so that's one expectation exceeded.

Agree that this is definitely "just make it OC" material though, it seems they're clearly going for a style with the clothes and devoid of the context of one of the best known videogame series of all time I see no reason you couldn't go places with it. It's in the strange zone where it looks like OC that's mislabeled but that's because it diverges so far from the original source that it is actually original if you stop telling people it's zelda and link, unlike the 5 billion Sonic "OC" characters which are so obviously derivative you just smack your forehead and say "original? really?"

I just don’t understand. This isn’t even a completely awful design, but why not just make it your own OC instead of this? I find myself feeling this way about a good handful of “redesigns” that aren’t unsalvageable. Like, why not just use the design for yourself instead of trying to say it’s (xyz character)?

Well they are latino, so I can see the reasoning behind turning them POC (iirc Brazil has a large black population). If they polished their style here and there it'd be somewhat decent.

The girly features on Jose and the gay stuff do weird me out though.

Why don't these people make their own OCs? They could even still be Legend of Zelda OCs instead of changing literally everything about the characters except for their names and calling it an alternate universe.

I'm starting to think none of these people realize they can make original characters and stories with diversity instead of trying to shoehorn it into an existing series where it makes no sense at all.

I will always love how people ignore the obvious fact that the 8 Homestuck human kids are white, especially Rose and Dave, who barely leave home (more on Rose) and are obviously pale cause of that lol. Roxy and Dirk too, since, you know, all four have blonde hair.

I don't think it's too much a stretch to say the Homestuck fandom basically invented this trend by having the characters be extremely stylized/minimalistic and canonly "aracial" so they went wild with how they drew them.
