It's not just the east, either. The creator of InternetExplorer-Chan, a one merryweatherey, made a comic with Nessa where her skin tone was a few shades not as brown. Obviously, dumbasses got upset. What made it terrible was how they took it. They're one of those people who genuinely want to see the best in people, so when they caved and made an edit addressing these assholes, they made what seemed like 20 tweets at the people who said they were racist and whitewashing and shit so they could show them the edit. I'm not gonna lie, I teared up when looking at those tweets; but afterwards I promptly got even more goddamn angry than I already was. These "people" are unironic parasites.

Honestly I found the white Black Panther drawing made by the same artist that riled up a bunch of Tumblrites more tasteful. The ape Nessa drawing while a bit funny just came off as a bit too edgy for me.

Also, the first one isn’t an SJW piece, because you do need dysphoria to be trans. That looks a lot more like something that SJWs would hate than love.

If I may interject- As much as I hate personally even the idea of raging about "whitewashing", the thing is, some of those people are correct those pictures look wrong- except for every single wrong reason. It's not about the palette or colors or filters the artists may use, but it's about how dark skin looks illuminated compared to light skin.

I stumbled upon this picture ages ago on tumblr and it blew my mind how simple and effective this trick with adjusting point where contrast occures to make something seem light or dark. Notice it uses exactly same colors for top and bottom sample and manages to achieve exactly opposite effect.

Here, t prove a point, I mangled this through few filters- top row always reads as dark while bottom reads as light - applying contrast of the bottom one to drak coloured skin creates the effect of bleaching those uneducated outrage machines call "whitewashing".

So IMO in conclusion- you can choose whatever colurs you want, but you actually have be on the next level to use them in a way that won't read washed out, which 99% of fanartists don't do and 100% of SJW don't understand how it should work. Raging over that is way easier than taking time to educate themselves in light physics and expalining to artist how they can get better. Being better and softspoken doesn't grant you asspats on twitter. (or tumblr. at some point an artist wasn't considered worth following if they weren't at least ONCE called out on whitewashing....)

ETA: to be fair, the defnders using arguments "but it's color palette and filter" are also wrong. The correct answer is "it's where the contrast is placed".
