In my Opinion if you wanna make a redesign of a characters Clothing design, sure go for it but why do they always make em look so boring, there is nothing really unique about these. The first two look like trapeze artists and the second one looks like a gymnast wearing a jacket.

I wouldn't mind the boring redesigns so much if they didn't completely sap the energy and attitude of the character. For all their raging and screeching about models, half the time when they redesign a character they end up looking as inexpressive as a supermodel walking down the catwalk.

Take that Wonder Woman "redesign" there. Yeah, it's pretty shitty. She's broader than a barn door and has legs so short a pug would need to crouch to hump her. But if the artist had at least put in the effort of darwing her in an interesting pose like in the model reference it would be a lot better. Make her do something with the lasso instead of having it hanging there like a coiled, limp noodle. Put her in the Rosie The Riveter flex pose or whatever.

You've got strong, powerful and confident female characters, make them act strong, powerful and confident in both their powers and womenhood instead of just standing there smugly like a shitty cosplayer who got paid four digits to just park her ass at a window and do nothing for two hours. The attitude is part of the design.

Why are all these so lifeless? I kinda know why, they removed all flowing parts. There is reason why the capes, scarfs and long hair are so common in comics and illustration, those allow to create great illusion of movement in still picture. Plus can add great drama and help storytelling. Sure they are unreasonable in real life but serve important function in this type of fiction. Also these are just kinda ugly and badly though out desing vice. Like why is SW's leggings the area with most contrast?

You can do more covered superhero redesigns that don't look like ass. Just look at this fan design for Powergirl. Sure it the drawing is exceptionally skillful but even if had been draw with less shading and stuff like it would still good because the design is solid. Good color balance, great compilation of symmetry and unsymmetry and Powegirl is still looks like herself. I still prefer the classic with pare legs and blue accessories but I would not mind seeing this eather.

I don't think several of the "prudish" tumblr redesigns I've seen are bad. It's just the artist lack of effort/skill. Like with She-ra's outfit from Princesses of Power. It looks like garbage in the show but before the show officially aired a lot of people did fanart and holy cow some of that shit looked amazing.

Agreed on can't draw but they know how design visually appealing characters even less. Just look at the episode where the characters wear the original clothes. It was supposed to be "lol the 80's stuff was like totally lame right?" but especially Shera herself looks so much better. Despite still crap art and them purposefully trying to make them look bad the good design still shines trough.

I remember from the very beginning, everyone said She-Ra looked like a boy and of course the creators and their simps were like "nOOOOO sHE's nOT aNDROGYNOUS," but then you see her in the old outfit vs the new outfit and it's beyond obvious the new She-Ra is basically They-Ra.

Makes me glad my favorite old comic book heroine is too obscure to be ruined with reboots.

Perhaps Most of the Tumblr artists are realizing the futility of their redesigns and are finally coming to terms with the fact that the Studios who's characters they "fix" with their redesigns won't hire them nor will they really even care much about their redesign or even see it.
