Personally speaking, "It was the marketing's fault!" felt too much like backpedaling, because I could've sworn the writers were extremely proud of writing that particular episode and boasted about it before it aired, but take it with a grain of salt.

But back on topic, the 'su redesign' tag on tumblr can be a goldmine.

The character is supposed to be Lapis Lazuli, and if you watched the show, you would know that her character is designed to be traditionally feminine. Of course, tumblr being tumblr made her a dark skinned man with broad shoulders and hulked out hands.
