Skull and Bones - "After ten thousand years in development, I hope it was worth the wait"

I understand the cynicism but I do hope this game will still turn out fun, it'd be pretty hard to fuck up pirate ships battles too hard, wouldn't it?.

I feel like this is going to be For Honor but with pirate ships, ie a fun game buried under annoying games as a service bullshit.

Who the fuck is gonna play this when Sea of Thieves exists (not a game I necessarily like but it will be leagues between than whatever trash Ubishite is gonna put out)? Also lol at the fact they took down the nearly 5 year old Steam page for this game

yeah i was going to say ubisoft was talking about making this game since at least black flag came out, even if it wasnt announced

i wish that pirates of the carribean game came out

Seriously, I don't get why they didn't make Black Flag 2 without the Assassin's Creed IP. People wanted more of that gameplay style.

Maybe there's a chance the game can be alright on its own, but this seems like Ubisoft making things harder than they had to be.

The UI is dogshit and the gameplay looks mediocre. Nothing good can come out of Ubisoft's tranny taint.

I loved Black Flag, probably specifically because the combat was so mindless and flashy and I felt like a strong bad ass pirate.

You know what I think I'd hate? A PVP online game where I don't feel like a strong pirate unless I spend money on hull reinforcement or whatever and don't even get to use a sword.

But you can buy the LGBT pride sails pack for 9.99. Nothing makes you feel more badass than fighting for Trans rights on the high seas!

Recall the original idea for this game was small team based pvp, like 5v5s. This was announced 2 years after the release of siege, back during its initial rocky first few years before it became big.
The proof of concept was just the naval sections of AssCreed Black Flag, then 2 years later it turned into "For Honor but with ships" with the same meta objective (a map divided in several parts with each faction fighting over it). After that it went into development hell.
It's like they had the name and the logo but no idea of what to do with it. BG&E2 went through the same shit.

They would probably make those free, like the Ukraine-colored sails and the "iconic Zelensky outfit".

This game is going to be an utter trainwreck and is only not being cancelled because Ubisoft is contractually obligated to release the game at the date required in the contract. I'm expecting a repeat of Asscreed Unity, only the bugs probably won't be as hilarious. Man Ubisoft is in a real shit position, all due to their own stupidity. Far Cry 6 was a wet fart especially compared to 5, Siege is slowing down, Asscreed is so bloated that people are becoming sick of it, Beyond Good & Evil 2 is never ever coming out, Rayman is dead, Ghost Recon might as well be dead. What do they even have left? They're probably going to go the same route Activision did and force all studios to just work on one or two series while never greenlighting anything else. My bet will be on trying to save Asscreed.

Why is Ubisoft so adverse to boarding & non-ship gameplay when Black Flag was praised for those things too?

A spiritual successor to Black Flag without ties to Assassin's Creed would've been a good new IP, I don't get their thought process here.
there is none. ubisoft flies a bit under the radar and people don't pay attention, but it's basically blizzard: the company. while activision still has their COD conveyor belt and EA has sportsball, ubisoft has.... just dance? then add the poz that goes up to the highest levels (look up their #metoo "scandal" from 2020 and it's aftermath) and then you know why ubisoft can't produce games people want, or even good games to begin with.

heck at this point the rumor microsoft was buying them too made more sense.

Basically this is a total miss and, though I'm sure it will rake in tons of money from faggots with zero taste and no self-control, I have no interest in it.
not how it works. didn't work for breakpoint, didn't work for legion, didn't work for their battle royale I don't even remember the name off, or even the siege spinoff which by all accounts should print money but people didn't even notice.

wanna know another reason? epic store exclusive. while it can work for big titles which can coast by on brand recognition, no one is gonna install EGS for this (or anything else if you go by epic's own numbers). sure, ubi might think they're clever more people gonna buy on uplay directly AND getting a check by timmy tencent, they're completely missing out on the steam demographic even fucking EA was smart enough to crawl back to.

Ghost Recon might as well be dead.
ghost recon IS dead. after their failed destiny clone which was a technical mess and designed by retards who need to get the fuck out of vidya dev (still, there was an enjoyable experience in there at it's core buried under all that shit) it is now getting whored out as... a battle royale of course, that looks like the bastard child of apex legends, fortnite and an extraction "climax" ripped off straight from the division.

imagine being ubisoft and going "oh wait, battlefield just fell fucking flat on it's face, maybe we should use this unique opportunity to get into that spot, we even got the fucking tech now, but nah, let's just copy games from fucking YEARS AGO" with a game PEOPLE ALREADY DIDN'T WANT FOR FREE TO THE POINT THEY SHUT DOWN THEIR OTHER BATTLE ROYALE GAME HYPER SCAPE IN APRIL.

like I said people don't pay attention (can't fault them, who cares about ubisoft at this point)...

Is it me or are the graphics noticeably worse than what was first shown? It reeks of huge budget cuts.

What the fuck is happening to video games and why has it become so laden with bullshit?

They're relying on hyper, photo-realistic, stylish graphics and an overblown ui to cover up the fact that gameplay is shit.

It's the trend nowadays.

I agree. I've tried to replay GR Breakpoint without the Destiny/open-world-RPG shit and it's not great, you still have to do the boring "open world RPG" crap because the game was designed for this purpose.
The story was really bad too, none of the characters were interesting. This is Ghost Recon FFS, why are we shooting at drones or robot tanks most of the time? Also the "resistance" should go fuck themselves.

Don't forget that Tencent is also has a lot of shares in Ubisoft.

now imagine the gameplay was good on top of AAA graphics? that shit would sell itself. but then it's easier to outsource art to eastern europe and asia than good gameplay.

it's ok if you play the story in chunks, and at least it's just "google, but bad" instead of some orange man bad shit. there's also the collab stuff which is silly fun, like the terminator event.
I mostly enjoyed it for running around and collecting shit, as an ubisoft open world game it's fucking great, there's plenty of ways to collect and explore stuff (stealth or rambo) in neat locations, it looks fucking great too and the vulkan update made the engine run smooth as butter. in that regard it's even better than wildlands since there's less jank and the AI is less ass. but yeah, the "raid bosses" (ffs it's still a team of 4, that's not a fucking raid) felt a bit out of place. still kinda fun tho with the right group. I assume they wanted to crown their DLCs with raids you grind for gear with a higher number, as if this shit was vanilla WoW in 2004, not ghost recon in 2019. ironically the "raid island" is fucking great sans the boss fights since you actually have to play like a ghost or get your shit kicked in.

only 5% iirc to fend off the vivendi takeover, but tbh that's the least of it's problems. in the end tencent still wants them to make money, other companies where they have a stake can do just fine, heck riot is 100% owned and not a dumpster fire either (for now at least).

ubisoft's problems reek of the same issue that other companies suffer from: identity politics and too many retards in charge. just look at dice sweden or bioware, exact same shit. those people couldn't make a good game if their life depended on it, because they don't play videogames and suck at their job. that's what happens when you hire based on gender and twitter pronouns instead of merit. I mean look at this shit:
