Good evening Kiwis,

I've been thinking about this for awhile and wanted to know if anyone here prefers to slip into sleep with the aid of music and if so, what kind?
I've also wanted some suggestions for awhile and who better to ask than kiwis.

Feel free to post links and even reasoning. Some of the stuff I snooze to has meaning to me even.

To start, I find it easier to nap with the help of World of Warcraft ambiance. I played it a lot as a kid and on and off as an adult, but the soothing music and ambiance of the starting zones played at low volume make me fall asleep much easier and faster than the norm. Here's a taste: https://youtu.be/MW4fASDkQXA

For nightly sleep, I have taken a liking to listening to the soothing instrumentals of The Green Kingdom, I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for new music to fall asleep to: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJLnYNMTUqw&list=OLAK5uy_mqbHwnoCnjVbne9XTMbVtjNc9fZ8r1LvE

I don't necessarily sleep with music all the time, but I'm a pretty big Buckethead fan (he was born in a chicken coop, you know) and his two albums Electric Tears and Electric Sea are fantastic for that purpose. Plus they're just good overall. I can't even start listening to them though without immediately wanting to conk out.

Also secret garden are a bunch of Irish people or something. Idk, they've been around for ages.

That's going to depend on any given person's tolerance for musical "drive" though. Some people won't be able to handle much more than ambient noise, some people can fall asleep while listening to Dream Theater (but that isn't saying much, hey-o); like you indicated I feel like it's as much about familiarity as it is about actual musical quality, like watching old reruns of TV shows you grew up with. There's nothing there that's going to jar you or that you'll miss out on.

you know, probably i can share some lullaby music but i saw both your pfp and nickname and i want to kill you right now... in minecraft
Anime on FnaF violence; will the lowliest and most oppressed of people never cease to bring each other down?

Well if you're serious, here are a few good ones I've listened to that calm me down. The Silent Hill 2 OST is gorgeous, for one.

Bladerunner OST :

Klaus Schulze:

I absolutely can't sleep to music. Even this kind:

I've been using music to fall asleep for the last ten or so years.
It started with dream pop and shoegaze at half volume and now it's sound collages and power electronics at full volume.
Harsh noise wall is final destination, I guess.

k recommend looking for a music box version also do lower the volume as the songs bridge tends to get a little... Loud and less sleep enduring if albeit still a relaxing tune.

Also may I recommend the older Clair De lune by Claude Debussy as a follow up? I've noticed there's an very distinctive similar melody in both songs.

First off thank you everyone for sharing, it's always nice to get a fresh perspective.

I never thought any part of Silent Hill would aid in encouraging sleep, but am I glad to be wrong and I 100% agree with it being gorgeous. Klaus Schulze is also pretty nice, it makes for good background noise.

Electric Tears and Electric Sea are fantastic for that purpose.
This is a God Tier suggestion, absolutely love it and will be adding them to my playlist. Irish music was good too.

Is your goal to be able to sleep through air raids and raves? If true, that's pretty fucking impressive.

Both links are great material, you can bet that I'll be hunting for more music like this.

Don't fall asleep to music often, but I usually do when I'm trying to nap for whatever reason. I sometimes use a custom playlist I have of deep ambient house tracks; soft pads over a 4/4 beat is soothing to me. But usually I'll just throw on this stream:

I don't really listen to music when I'm trying to fall asleep, but I do have some stuff that I like listen to when I occasionally stay up way too late (think 2-3 AM I have no self-control).

Surprised nobody mentioned this song, which was deliberately written to help you relax and fall asleep.
