Funny thing about those related stories, I had a choice yesterday between The Meg and Slenderman, and went with the former just because I knew I was going to get a schlocky B-movie shark flick (based off a book I didn't even know existed) and it wasn't produced by Sony. Had low expectations anyway and still have no regrets. It's a bit of an unnerving film at times, good ocean atmosphere.
What kind of atmosphere does Slenderman have, anyway? The woods haven't been scary in cinema since Blair Witch.

Watching the RedLetterMedia video gave me that impression too, not just with how little publicity the movie's getting, but also with how much they've been removing from the movie itself. A lot of the scenes from the trailer, like the girl stabbing herself in the face and the boy who appears to be falling off a bridge, are cut entirely. Best part though is that the both of them are major characters in the story, so they end up just disappearing from the movie with no explanation.
I get the feeling they're either trying to make the movie as shitty as possible, or they're trying to remove any connections to death because of the real life stabbings. Could be both, really.

I almost bet it was to get that coveted PG-13 rating, I expect the DVD/Bluray will be uncensored and probably make a bit more sense that what it sounds like currently.
Bye Bye Man, shitty as it is wasn't quite as bad as I was led to believe but I saw the unrated cut of it that had blood and stuff. Guessing it's going to be a similar thing here. It's still going to be garbage but it'll at least make more sense and have some slightly fucked up stuff happen.

Someone should make a film where it's just one guy walking around in an abandoned location at night with only a flashlight, while you hear spooky noises and shit, but the camera stays steady and shit. This goes on for 89 minutes, then the final minute, the guy turns a corner, something unclear is there, and cut to black. Boom. Perfect horror movie.

I like the Slenderman monster. But, this movie was horrid. It was worse than the piece of shit "Always Watching" that was allegedly somehow related to Marble Hornets. While I'm sure that a decent movie CAN be made out of some of these creepypasta creatures....I have absolutely NO faith in any big production companies making anything that doesn't resemble a dumpster fire covered in hobo shit.

I was actually interested in this movie at first because I do genuinely like Slenderman. He's a good monster and there's some pretty creepy stuff you can do with him, as evidenced by all those web-series. I've been waiting for his time on the silver screen for some time but this movie just looks pathetic. I may still see it, if only because I prefer watching HitB videos about stuff I've seen. What I'm getting is they wanted to make this movie a certain way then pussied out halfway through because they were afraid people would bitch at them about insensitivity towards the stabbing incident. As usual, no-good teenagers had to ruin something for everyone.

The verdict is in! It is a pile of garbage! Let’s be real here: if they make a movie based off something from the internet, it’s bound to suck. They could have really made a decent film and revived the creepypasta, but if I’m going by what others are saying, they executed it so poorly. A shame, considering how popular the lore was back in its haydays.
As for me, I may catch it on Redbox for some quick laughs.

Not only is this a piece of shit, it is a late piece of shit. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Slenderman hasn't really been notable at all since those 2 12 year old little girls tried killing their friend to satisfy Slender Man. Slender Man was still somewhat popular then, but that event really did help destroy what remained of his popularity.

The father of one of the girls who committed the attack has publicly slammed the movie for glorifying a tragedy and urged theaters not to show it. That's allegedly part of the reason why Sony isn't promoting it. If I were in charge, I would have just removed the Slenderman branding altogether and sent it straight to Netflix.

This probably would’ve been more successful (even with the same sub-par acting and shitty movie altogether) had it released sometime between 2011-2013, when Slenderman was actually popular.
I watched this with a group of friends knowing it was going to be absolute pile of shit (two bailed when they finally found the Rotten Tonatoes score and decided not to waste nine dollars) and after the movie we all came to the conclusion that those two guys were right all along. For a shitty horror movie cashing in on a fad involved with an attempted murder of a 12 year old it had the mixed bag of emotions, with me feeling so tired I drifted to sleep on my friend should for almost half the movie, howling with laughter when she started to fucking hallucinate some shitty demon with the same graphics of Superman 64 when she was making out with her boyfriend, to being absolutely fucking confused when the movie ended because he just... made her a fucking tree?
Even Wish Upon, fucking Wish Upon was able to keep me more invested than this pile of dogshit.
