I own a smart car. It actually is really fun to drive, but I don't own it because I care about the environment. I put an NRA sticker on it for fun.

With that said, they are a huge pain in the ass to get worked on and find parts for. I would not recommend buying one if you want a subcompact.
Smart folded and was incorporated into Daimler a while back. Does yours use Mercedes-Benz parts?

Just buy a Peel P50 if you're going to get a pocket car. Then you can drive it straight into your house so you don't have to do a walk of shame when you pull into the driveway.

In order to make them lighter they should use magnesium instead of steel.

I never understood what the fuck is the point of buying an economy car if your goal is to save gas when it takes fucking premium gas of all things.

Not trying to conspirasperg here but common sense would tell you not to be in a vehicle that could be hacked like a smart car or self-driving vehicle that could easily be directed to kill your ass.

Also I would rather be like the Waterboy and drive a tractor on the road just to piss people off.

Most Smart cars are fucking awful but I have had the pleasure of shredding one of these around a track and much as I wouldn't be seen dead driving one on the road my GOD they handle so damn well.

Ok now I kinda want one maybe a little bit.

Smart cars are for people too pussy to ride a motorcycle. Also expensive.

If they wanted to sell a tiny unsafe car they should have followed the Yugo model and made them super cheap.
Honestly, I think you're safer on a motorcycle. You can bail from a motorcycle easily as long as you're reasonably fit and not riding a ridiculous chopper. Plus, most places require at least a helmet, and modern jackets are made to withstand both abrasion and impact...More than you're getting in the empty can of a smart car.

Steel is pound for pound stronger than either titanium, aluminum or magnesium. Hence, the roll cage is made of welded steel. Also:

This was a Corvette in a minor collision. A freak engine fire spread to the magnesium frame.

The roll cage of a microcar is extremely rigid but offers no intrusion protection. You'd probably get impaled by debris entering the cabin. In fact, the short-hooded 2009 model got a 2 out of 5 for frontal impact due to the lack of "padding" for the occupants.

Hate to contradict you here because I'd happily have a motorcycle myself but, my wife is an emergency nurse with 14 years of experience and she loves to tell horror stories about biker injuries. They either disintegrate entirely or they come in without any visible sign of injury and tremendous internal hemorrhaging.

Smart cars have one of the lowest resale values, and lowest owner loyalty of any car company.

Everybody I’ve talked to who bought one (usually because it was cheap) was swearing never to get one again by the time their lease was up.

I didn't set out to buy it, nor would I recommend anyone buy one. Was a deal at work where I wanted to get rid of my Silverado and there was an extra smart car the company owned. Boss offered me a trade and I took it.

This is a fair position. I would not own another one either.
