Honestly? Most of the problems about modern YouTubers can always be traced back to the site itself. I know we always like to joke about YouTubers being greedy and everything, but when you're in a monopolized landscape that forces you to comply with being "ad friendly" or else your views and adsense will drop, it's at least a little understandable why people like SMG4 or AVGN has to tone it down a little or push in sponsors in videos now. Shit sucks, but YouTube's a kike platform that isn't as entertaining as it once was where channels got payed no matter how raunchy and viewers were always there to have a laugh.
I think the FnaF videos did play a tiny part - they were among the first SMG4 videos to catch the attention of a much younger audience. They still have their funny moments, though.

Could be a last-ditch effort to reel back in the "old" viewers since I think the brothers are fully aware that their character redesigns are unpopular with their viewer base, or it's simply another setup for an "arc".
That'd make sense if you think about it for less than a minute. It's painfully obvious that they did it to separate themselves from Nintendo properties, either to sell merch of them or to make the show seem like something more than a spoof.
