We reached into the season finale, huh?

Man, this season was a blast and glad to see how good this show has become and how much has improved. It really felt like time flied while waiting for the new episodes. This is possibly one of the most successful seasons in an Adult Swim show since the days of Rick and Morty.

I'll be excited when season 3 drops.

I am excited but also slightly worried, the show is clearly the biggest hit they have had since Rick and Morty and they're going to most likely push it as hard as they did after season 2 for them, then as people itch for the new season the community online becomes gay and the next big redditor obsession, Season 3 for R+M was like an immediate dropoff in quality because they became way too meta pandering to all the spergs online. I absolutely loved the show's first 2 seasons but it became very gay very quickly.

I do think Zach is a bit more in tune to internet culture though, which makes me cautiously optimistic for the show's future. As long as AS doesn't meddle in the show too much I think it will stay great, Zach has been creating kino for a very long time now.

It’s more than just Zach, it’s also Michael Cusack, and a handful of other creatives. I’ll refrain from any doom posting shit, and leave it at that.

Happy to see that I was wrong, and it was just a few “ok” episodes that soured me. I enjoyed the last episode.

I truly believe adult swim won't meddle with this show too much because its independence is creating the success. Rick and Morty was always planned to be the next big thing back when it first premiered, they had 20 minute episodes, Smiling Friends gets 10. Rick and Morty had a weekly premiere, Smiling Friends gets all their episodes dropped for season 1 in one night but played on repeat throughout the week.

My hopes for season 2 is that they get 20 minute episodes since they can make some amazing stories with that much time, it's clear in season 2 the biggest weakness has been time. 10 mins was great with ATHF or Sealab or Space Ghost when the scenery doesn't change too much, but this show has been trying to explore the world around them in a limited time frame. All in all, I just want more shows from NG creators or similar minds greenlit.

Strong season so far, I finally caught up the other night. The gross President has valiantly earned its spot on the podium as #1 least enjoyed character in the show, bar none. Even now, I get a thousand yard stare, seeing the glistening filth and crusty clothing; EUGHCH.

I agree that the episodes could benefit with some length, however, I also believe in not wasting viewer's time when writing stories. A story is done when it is done and trying to force a few extra minutes could be the difference of success or failure. Personally, anything between 12-15 minute episodes would be prime but only if the Smiling Friends team believe it is appropriate. Too much of a good thing ya know?

I think Zach and crew are just politically incorrect enough to keep the trannies and ultra progressives away, and the show isn't nihilistic, pretentious midwit media like Rick and Morty. I don't think the Smiling Friends fandom will approach anywhere near the same level of cancer as the Rick and Morty fandom.

Also I just realized Smiling Friends set the general undertone of actual absurdist philosophy from season 1 episode 1 with Desmond, a nihilist prepared to not drink coffee in the morning who finds the will to live in spite of the nihilistic facts and realities. Frowning friends, often the "nihilism" reference cited in videos, is not about nihilism but indoctrination and emotional manipulation/misguidings. Sure the characters themselves have traits of nihilism, I don't think a nihilist would want control and power because such desires are pointless.

I shouldn't feel genuinely nervous IRL to look in to Mr. Jester's eye but the increased jumpscares lately and then the waitress disappearing had me on edge man they're in my head get out of my head man.

It's not often you see jumpscares being used for humours sake, pretty neat. Halloween episode did it really well.
I love jumpjokes. Zach uses them somewhat often if you count the random screaming birds and shit. The only other example I can think of is from the horror game Visage which had a really funny one.

Instead of one long 20 min episodes I wish we could get something like how kids shows were, two 11 min episodes played together
That might be asking for too much though
regular show started doing that after a while. i could see them doing something similar in the future

Aside from other things mentioned, there were some Homestuck references in the background of some scenes, and the glitched out stuff in Spamtopia was very reminiscent of the, uh, jpeg-corruption aesthetic Hussie used in Sweet Bro & Hella Jeff and Homestuck.

Also I swear to god in the Salty episode, during the weird eye twins story, there was a face very reminiscent of one from the aforementioned SB&HJ.

So yeah, that's another Internet animation reference right there.

Looks like there might be the first controversy for the series (unlike that BS 4chan post a few pages back). The Bill Nye Death Song Episode 8 preview has been privated everywhere, I didn't get to watch it. I went looking for it and all I can find is some ESL commenting on a slideshow version of the preview, and some Redditor claiming Bill Nye's estate is threatening to sue.

I didn't watch the preview so I have no idea what's in it, but he's a well known public figure and a silly cartoon is not going to have any issues with claiming parody. After all of the shows that South Park put out, and about against particularly litigious cunts like the Church of Scientology.

I am going to wait for any proof before believing this. Totally possible, but I've seen nothing confirming it. I was able to watch the preview before it got pulled down. The joke was nye showed up in a hot air balloon, made a funnily disturbing bird-bee hybrid, then died when his balloon hits the power wires and he gets electrocuted. Pretty basic joke with a caricature character. It was a softer parody than anything south park has ever done.
