Am I the only one who thinks that Squim was a dig at everyone who keep going on about how they love Smiling Friends for being so positive? I got that feeling from the season 2 finale when Charlie was constantly gushing about how much he loves his life and friends.
 
Whomever animated Squim should be proud. The amount of everything involved in the character's animation is amazing. Squim is just an exaggeration of toxic positivity; there's nothing more there. But the overall thematic theme of the episode is rejecting reality/responsibility is bad. All of the character arcs had that theme.
 
Has anyone noticed that this season's B plots are way better than it's A plots? Like why bother having a subplot just do one main plot since this 12 minutes show can't sustain two plots. Like I didn't give a fuck about Squarm glad he got Police Activity Swatted at the end. But Charlie being sick from bad kabobs when he was playing hookie was way more funny and interesting. I dunno I think single plot episodes are the way to go.

It's like they upped the animation budget just for him. Nigga looked like a fucking Don Bluth film character in the 80s after he left Disney. That's some fucking top notch animation shit right there.

One of my favorite little details about Squim is that he casts a barely-visible shadow behind him, since layered cels do the same thing.

The dude goes by Kosperry on YouTube. I was wondering why it looked so familiar to me and it turns out I actually saw some of his videos where he had redrawn scenes from Seinfeld in a Don Bluth style.
I hesitate to call it animation because its more of a sideshow, but I still found it pretty cool how well he captures the style.

Iirc, two of the people who went on about how positive Smiling Friends is/was were Mike and Zach. I member them talking about that on the Create Unknown interview they did a while ago. Idk, maybe he's just a silly character and not meant to directly poke fun at a real life group.

I feel like the latest season has been kinda weak overall. Another thing they talked about on that podcast, that I think you see very well in seasons 1 and 2, is that the essence of the humor in SF is a contrast of zany and mundane elements. The Boss and the Devil arguing over property lines, the Devil getting doordash from a random Indian guy, the Princess talking about blocking that hobbit dude from all social media while he kept stalking her, etc. are examples of this. It seems to me that in the latest season, some of the plots they're writing don't end up doing that contrast very well, either way too zany, or too mundane.
The previous episode with the nature monster was a good example of this, I think. The plot with Pim and Charlie was almost entirely zany, while the B plot was entirely mundane. Pim and Charlie meet a litter hating monster that grows stronger the more trash they pick up and eventually tries to kill them over dropping a can, zany - obvious, mundane - Mothman having an instagram? weak. The Boss, Allen, and Glep stay in the cabin and the Boss helps Allen learn to relax, mundane - everything, zany - Allen and the Boss start acting really gay with each other? Idk, ig I just don't get it.
This episode, the Charlie plot was good, nice mix of zany and mundane, but the Squim and Pim plot was just kinda eh all around. The joke was forcing Pim to play the straight man to Squim's antics, and it wasn't terrible, but it wasn't that great either. Imo, it would've been funnier if in the ice cream shop, Squim's unhinged positivity worked to cheer the guy up, but still annoyed Pim, leading up to the same ending of him getting shot. The point of comedy is to be funny, not teach moral lessons on the dangers of being overly positive.
The Halloween episode was good also, it kinda broke with the overall formula but in a good way, still being entertaining.

I don't wanna say "they don't got it anymore," they obviously do, I just think some of the latest episodes weren't their best. Even then, they were still pretty funny and entertaining, just not quite as good as previous seasons.

Squim retired all the way back in 2001.... The boss only recently needed to call em back out of retirement for a small job. To me it seems like there was another incident of some sorts where the squim dance was involved. That's why the police knew about it......... I bet that squim was forced into retirement by the boss after realizing having someone whose WAYY too positive working for a compan-......... I have to stop myself from typing up an appearent back story to a character whose sole purpose was to make fun of toxic positivity, whose screen time is less than 10 minutes.
 
I can't seem to archive the page rn, but there's been a few interviews recently from the creators. I thought this quote was interesting

"I don’t think there’s a single character or moment or joke we’ve purposely brought back for fan service. If anything, sometimes we try to piss the fans off in a fun way that’s funny to us."

I mainly bring it up because I saw some comments on Reddit about how people were shocked that Charlie had a photo Trump Mr. Frog's assassination attempt as his wallpaper and that means Charlie is an alt-right chud.

Another thing they mentioned that I liked was while they both really like animation, they don't draw much inspiration from other cartoons for the show since "If you’re just watching cartoons and making cartoons based on cartoons, it spirals into a big blob of nothing." (RIP every single cartoon reviewer on YouTube trying to make their pilot for Cartoon Network)
 
This episode was the most mean-spirited one so far, and I mean it in a good way. Mocking The Simpsons after just meeting Matt Groening at a French pedo castle, all the little details showing how much of a mega chud Charlie is to spite the people who want this show to become another troonslop woke animated gay drama, making troons sneed because they can't help but see themselves in a fat retarded middle aged man cross dressing and forcing himself onto others. All good stuff. Not to mention how hard they've been flexing with all the amazing animation they've produced on a smaller budget compared other shows.

It took a long time for Adult Swim to realize they were sitting on a goldmine, but this show couldn't have come out at a better time. All of the faggots that got offended always deserved to be laughed at.

Back in 2001 when smiling friends was set up in new york he did the squim dance so masterfully that a couple airplane pilots got so entranced that they accidentally hit a couple of buildings.
