It's probably late for this but I did want to talk about the Mr. Frog episode. I think it's a fitting end for the character. He spent his whole life conquering and destroying everything in front of him and achieved world domination. Him giving it up in the end because he's bored, while predictable still lands because of the way the showrunners handled it. I also think on any other show when his father started chastising him and telling him he's a piece of shit for not being there when his mother died he probably would have flipped out and beat his father to death.

You know, I was very worried when Green Creed showed up that they would do a whole beat'm up too. But nah, they played it super straight and I think that is the more mature route, not to mention a little more interesting. It was a nice Arc to inner peace and contentment. On the note of multi-season arcs.
I think my only gripe of this season was not really enjoying the character Silly Samuel...but we are totally gonna see him again aren't we? They completed Mr. Frog's arc and carried off Silly Samuel as a prophet. We're totally gonna have some Silly Jonestown; don't eat the silly sausage.

Understandable, I wouldn't be surprised if they used a lot of reference footage. One of the key animators for Ghost in the Shell (1995) Mitsuo Iso trapped a spider in a glass so he could study it's movements when he was animating the Spider Tank.

Were you thinking of A Scanner Darkly? That was rotoscoped, and featured Alex Jones!

Silly Samuel was my least favorite episode of the whole series and the character I hated the most. More annoying than even Squim who was made to be an annoying character. I'd rather deal with the demon that throws his hands in Charlie's face in the Charlie Dies and Goes to Hell episode than have to listen to Silly Samuel's god awful fucking Seth Rogen-esque voice whining all the time. 3D Squelton wasn't even as whiny and I'd love more 3D Squelton.

If you can enjoy the humor of older 1900s cartoons you will get some form of humorous enjoyment out of smiling friends. Just my opinion of course.

Think about it though. Older cartoons were known for incredibly whacky animation styles, sudden changes in style in the middle of an episode, weird shots/angles, Zaney (often times now considered offensive or inappropriate) characters, lots of random screaming and back-and-forth banter.




The only major difference is Smiling friends dialogue can dip into awkward moments of sanity and reality that some may find jarring, unusual or too crass. The internet references are also a’plenty but you don’t need to understand most of them to find them funny.

Pretty sure it's a direct reference to one hour photo but it might be a coincidence. maybe it's Chungking express, he's kinda got the pixie dream girl look.
