I'm bummed but I feel like it's a proper Adult Swim ending. Pretty much every Adult Swim cartoon is legendary despite having only 2 or 3 seasons.

i don't know, the glep episode is my least favorite because they went that route of overexplaining a gag character, i can see it becoming more and more self referential and adding unnecesary "lore" . Zach also repeats deliveries and voices a lot. Repetition over time hurts the humor, i think its more than just the fans that make a show end up like Rick and Morty but 3 seasons is still way too early for those sort of troubles to bring it down.

Regular Show had a similar premise and set up, were 22 minute episodes and still got fairly consistent 8 seasons.
Every show declines without shake ups, hell even the simpsons golden era had like 5 sets of show runners during those 9 seasons and still had a good amount of stinkers. I just take umbrage with the rick and morto comparison because it was such a catastrophic decline in quality that its hard to put into words. It's like how people call every multiplayer game the next concord to try and recapture that sweet smug schadenfreude.

Part of me is sad because it was one of the few good shows worth watching, good enough to actually buy the seasons instead of pirating it. I also would of appreciated another season or two of the show. On the other hand I'm glad the show hasn't been tainted by some bad decision or drawn out to the point of fatigue (i.e, Simpsons, House, Dexter etc...).

As an additional note I am grinning at the of the troons and weirdos foaming at the mouth and being put on suicide watch. Who knows we might still get some more Smiling Friends episodes/seasons/movie somewhere down the line.

Smiling Friends left us all with a big brown smile and I cannot be happier.

Season 3 was feeling like they hit the limit of what they can do, like it was threatening to become stale very soon.
Don't get me wrong, it was still a great season but the signs were there.

This is literally the best outcome in my eyes, maybe if they had a year or two off from the show as a pallette cleanser they'll return for a special/movie as a finale.

Its certainly better than becoming another Rick and Morty.

Better they end it on there own terms rather then drag it out like the Simpsons or Rick and Morty or Southpark. Probably going to be the best show of the 2020's if im being honest. Other than the Will Stancil show at least.

Don't come to tomorrow, I won't be there

Now if Beavis and Butthead ends I won't have shit to watch

I would've loved if the show had organic growth and didn't go so viral on X and Reddit so it could be more of a sleeper hit that got picked up from the 3rd season after cancellation rather than the creators themselves ending it premature.
If anyone is to blame it's Reddit for infantilizing the whole show into a parody of itself within a few years.

Reddit culture is a big part of why shows go to shit. I think Zach and Michael realized this and were probably burnt out as well. Better to end it on there own terms rather then hand it off to another entity to write the show and turn it into another Rick and Morty. Im sure this will lead to good reddit seething too.

Michael Cusack and Zach have confirmed that Season 3 was the last season of Smiling Friends, but they don't deny that there will be more special episodes in the future.

This is the premature end of an amazing era of Adult Swim, but my god, they ended in a pretty high note.
Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.

I'm glad it ended while they were ahead. The level of consistency they managed to pull off for 3 straight seasons is pretty wild. Curious to know what went down behind the scenes though. There has to be more to the story.

I still remember when I first watched the pilot back in 2020 and was shocked the scene with Charlie and Pim up close in Desmond's room only became a meme (rightfully so) when it was picked up and not when it initially dropped. I was kind of worried this would've ended up being another underground show lasting 1 season only appreciated by niche Internet weirdos like me, but was pleasantly surprised at how big of a reception and mass appeal it got since then.

I can only hope for the best for Zach and Michael and hope they bring to life new and iconic animated shows now that they have a animation studio.
