Many years ago one summer, we were staying at my grandparents' because of broken air-conditioning, and Dad was pushing my then-baby brother on the swing in the front yard when he happened to look down and asked Grandma if she had known about the snails in her yard. There were a bunch of tiny snails just hanging in the yard and on the house much to Grandma's horror.

They were pretty neat, but the crunch of accidentally stepping on one sticks with you. 8(

And for a few years, we had fish and one year got apple snails we named Gary and Larry because lol. Apple snails are quite cute for being bottom-feeders, I was easily entertained watching them lick the tank. We only had them I think no longer than six months, and then they just didn't come out of their shells one day. We were certain they had just curled up and died inside the shell, but I have a feeling they were actually hibernating and so we unknowingly buried our snails alive.

Anyhoo snails can be cute. I hope the next time I actually see one in person since it's been years, I'll let it crawl on me just for the experience.

If you pick a snail up, you should either let it crawl into your hand or gently grab its shell and softly move it back and forth until it curls up and un-sucks from the ground.
Please do not pluck your snail friends from the ground because it might hurt them.
