I can't get a hold of somebody and I'm trying to decide how worried I should be. They're not the easiest person to get in touch with, but still. Some of the only people I like are in Texas and they're without any source of power and have insufficient sources of heat. I am terrified for them.
After getting stuck in my driveway coming home (after not having any issues this morning when road conditions were worse) , I finally managed to clean up the driveway enough to get myself unstuck and discover my drugstore left me a message saying something is ready for pickup. After seeing three other cars with better traction than mine struggling to drive down the street without getting stuck themselves, I decided I'd wait until tomorrow to make my pickup.I was going to go to the store but I saw a dude get stuck three times on the same road so I decided I didn't need to go that badly.
From what someone I know in Texas told me, she knows how to prepare for it having grown up in a state that gets snow each winter; however, people there aren't prepared for any sort of significant snow fall or temperature drops which is what's led to the rolling power outages, lack of heat, and even a lack of water pressure in some areas. I hope everyone there dealing with this makes it through relatively unscathed. Some of the only people I like are in Texas and they're without any source of power and have insufficient sources of heat. I woke up here yesterday and it was -12. I thought to myself "This is slightly more uncomfortable than usual".The populations of Colorado, minnesota & Alaska sit back and collectively laugh at you as you freeze and cause mile long pileups.
I once heard NC was deploying a huge set of emergency homeless blankets because it was going to be 30 out and I thought that was just hilarious. In CO the homeless just throw on some layers from charity or theft and carry on business as usual.
That individual you mentioned is probably fine, electrical can go out in heavy snowfall but above ground damage like that can be repaired in a timely manner rather than an all nighter like junction boxes+ decayed ground cabling would be. In a worst case scenario i'm sure the police would even let them loiter at the station.I'm not really laughing right now.
Its not actually cold enough to die there. Unless you sit outside with no jacket on all night.I'm not really laughing right now.
Don't forget Wisconsin, Michigan, and the northern part of Ohio. Really much of the Great Lake region. The populations of Colorado, minnesota & Alaska sit back and collectively laugh at you as you freeze and cause mile long pileups.
