A couple weeks back after a rather strange and stressful vacation, on my way home from the airport I decided to swing over to the nearest pocket of Hell we in the states call GameStop. Completely out of impulse and, honestly, just feeling morose, I bought myself a Nintendo Switch along with Smash and Hyrule Warriors (because I'm a sucker for Dynasty Warriors games and they didn't have Breath of the Wild because fucking of course). And no, sorry, I didn't take a soyboy picture of myself.

As it is, it has been over two weeks and the Switch and the games have been sitting on my couch, unopened. I'm considering swinging back to another GameStop and returning the items before the 30 day limit passes. But, maybe you, rhetorical reader out there, can give me a reason to justify this purchase and/or recommend some other games, because nothing fixes an impulse buy than more impulse buying.

Also keep in mind I have the other two life sucking consoles and a decent PC so I'm mostly looking at exclusives and/or games that for one reason or another work best on Switch.

And yes, I know I could just look up some "Top 25 best games of Switch article" but I'd more like to trust your opinions than some knob that works for IGN or GamesRadar.

I've got no desire for it myself aside from a lingering interest in Pokemon and a want for not-terrible RPGs, but I know the feeling of impulse buys all too well and can sympathize.
Consider the fact that the Switch is selling incredibly well, and that Nintendo will stick with it for as long as they possibly can(see the Wii still getting the new Just Dance) with no shortage of weird weebshit to bring over. The main downside is the price of the games, although Humble Bundle is now dealing in them so there's a potential for sales on that end.

I honestly wouldn't be caught dead with it out in public, though, and that unfortunately seems to be the big selling point since it's a massive Gameboy.

Do you like Mario games or platformers in general? Get Super Mario Odyssey. If you want to dick around in Mario levels Mario Maker 2 came out last month. Do you like Mario Kart and didn't get Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U? That got ported to the Switch. Do you think Yoshi games are cute? Yoshi's Crafted World is a thing. Into Animal Crossing? That's coming next March. Do you really want to play Breath of the Wild? It'll show up on a rack eventually. The Link's Awakening remake is barely a month away in September. Luigi's Mansion 3 comes out on Halloween. If none of those appeals to you then scroll through the master list of games yourself because I've got nothing.

Smash, Mario Kart, and Mario Party are all really fun if you have the friends to play them with. I personally didn't care for Breath of the Wild, the combination of breakable weapons and the open world on a system I play mostly in handheld mode for short periods keep making me bounce off it every time I try playing. Not to say it's a bad game, but I haven't been able to make myself get into it. Mario Odyssey is a fun platformer in the Mario 64 and Sunshine vein, and I think a must-have if you keep the Switch. Mario Tennis is really the only other exclusive that I'd really recommend. Mario + Rabbids, Kirby, and Pokemon Let's Go are all ok if you like the respective genres and can get them on sale or used. I haven't played any that came out this year, so I can't speak to Fire Emblem, Marvel, Mario Maker, etc.

I use my Switch mostly in handheld mode while I'm traveling, and I enjoy the roguelike genre which I think tend to translate well to the Switch, but that has meant buying some games I've already had on PC, usually at a higher price than I'd originally paid. If you don't travel a lot, and you aren't going to play party games like Smash with friends a lot, I'm not sure you're going to get a lot of value out of the system.

Jailbreak it.
It's cool if you don't want to pirate roms since that might not be up everyone's alley. There's bunch of cool stuff you can do on it and a android os is coming to the Switch too recently. Plus a ps2 emulator is in the works so be on the lookout for that.
Honestly though, return it if you don't have disposable money as you can just save it up for a Pro Switch that'll emulate ps2 games better (on a handheld too no less).
