So I'm trying to archive at risk Classic content from Youtube, any tip offs?

I miss old YT.

The wild west days of it really were something, there was so much bizarre stuff to find.

I appreciate the sheer professionalism some people into their videos today, but the old, weird days are missed.

How great would it be to have a time traveling computer that'd allow you to visit the internet of the past? Even if you couldn't comment on anything, only observe, it'd be wonderful.

I mean obviously the closest thing we have to that is internet archive, but that doesn't archive everything, I'm talking being able to visit the old net exactly as it was.

Like Bunny Tracks said, Archive.org. If you want tips on how to archive videos yourself, you're going to have a hard time archiving terabytes of data. It's going to cost you hundreds/thousands of dollars in hard disks/optical discs/other storage mediums.

The cheapest way at the moment would probably be to buy a blu-ray burner and several hundred 25GB blank discs (25GB discs are pretty cheap compared to larger capacities). After the initial cost of the burner, the discs are cheaper per-GB than other storage mediums and are easier to store and more reliable than hard drives (both mechanical and solid state drives have issues for long-term storage.)

There are also "M-Disk" blu-ray discs that are engineered for extreme long-term storage (as in hundreds of years). But those are several times more expensive than regular blu-rays.

The blu-ray solution has it's own issues (discs with larger than 25GB capacities are pretty expensive, having the data spread out amongst multiple discs is really inconvenient when you want to access things, discs need to be stored correctly away from sunlight and moisture, etc).

Even doing this you'd only have a local backup of the videos, though. You're better off seeing if you can get archive.org to archive the videos.

You can try bitchute, internet archive or start your video web hosting service.
Already on Bitchute. Since starting a web hosting service is outta reach. Bitchute's reasonably accessible so I've been beginning on that. Though in the future I'd love to host my own web service, that might be a future goal. Right now I gotta focus on saving work a touch more practically.

I'm aware of the costs and such. To be honest buying Hard Drives is actually relatively reasonable these days. I do get concerned about the storage issue but I have the ability to replace and bounce between hard drives every few years. I've been keeping a tight eye on that because of what I do. I'll be needing to upgrade soon to a 10 tb for storage's sake. Blu Ray Burners aren't bad and they're good for storage, though the issue comes with the physical space I suspect. As you mentioned with the issue of the data spread out as well which is my biggest problem. Since I need the archive to be readily accessible at a whim with proper organisation. Can't really do that if your cap is 22gb.

All in all, storage ain't the issue as much. What's the real issue is the UPLOADING. Been aiming at Bitchute and starting it up, and it's coming along, but it's slow.

And as for Archive.Org, they're good for finding certain videos, but it's not really as readily accessible as something on Bitchute. So I basically intend to tackle a pretty big task but I think at the very least it will amount to being a place where seriously at risk content and classic content will be found.

1) Use Youtube-DL.
2 https://www.reddit.com/r/DataHoarder/comments/c6fh4x/after_hoarding_over_50k_youtube_videos_here_is/ - Pretty good command to use. Adjust based on your needs.
Well actually I already have a solid downloader though if I can get something valuable out of this that my current downloader can't offer then I'll take a look.
Issue isn't the downloading.

It's finding all the high risk channels and videos and saving them first. And the classics. It's figuring out what in this grand vast land of youtube that I can salvage onto bitchute. Not always easy with so much. I have about 65 channels already (more or less) and want to add more to the list. I want to really nail down on those high risk channels because that's the point of the archive, to save that which will definitely be removed soon. And what to upload of that. (Since not every video from every channel I archive is worth gold.)
It breaks my heart that I can't find the "Sonic Colours" Youtube Poop of this. :(

Man, I know that feeling. So much was destroyed during Youtube's FUCKING PURGES.
It's why I do this now, because well, I mean there's plenty still worth saving and even now youtube has alot of classics, iconic parts of the internet, that need to be assured safe.
But yeah, it hurts to see so much wrecked by youtube's dickery. The animation section of Youtube especially got shitcanned too. And the great gods of shitpost like Frank and iDubbbz are shells of their former selves because everything had to be squeaky clean. I miss those days. I'd love to just go back in time for a year and really experience some of the things I know I missed. Oh well.

upside of bitchute: you can link to a youtube channel and they'll automatically mirror all the videos on that channel for you

downside of bitchute: everything will be reduced to below 1kbps quality. archive.org doesn't fuck with the files you upload to it.

Use 4KVideoDownloader it allows for easy download of entire channels and playlists. Start by downloading what you personally enjoy and want to be able to watch forever creators are fickle and could delete there own content at the drop of a hat. After that edgy humour, political commentary, and conspiracy theory content are the three categories that are at the most risk.
Upload to Archive.org, as long as it's not flat out porn they will allow it.

EDIT: Just realized you said classic content. At the popular "classic" content has been saved and has already been uploaded multiple times, you're better off aiming for more recent stuff. Youtube does have a sort by Upload Date feature though you can utilize to find lesser known old content if you just feel like being an archivist.

The best youtube poop I ever saw was Mario putting Yoshi to bed, being asked where babies come from and then hardcore porn set to appropriate Mario sounds. I'll never be able to find it again. :(
