Shit like this is why it never ceases to make me laugh that anime has gone so mainstream because the people that latch onto this shit today, are people who by and large should hate it. and they go through insane mental gymnastics to explain why it's okay.Someone on Reddit raised concerns that Ranma would not work in modern culture, and the resulting comment section proceeded to prove his point.
My favorite part is all the people who try to interpret parts of the anime as being "a parody of conservatives."
Y'know, I have to wonder if parents (soccer moms mostly) having freak-outs over anime and calling it creepy misogynistic violent schlock has played a part in why it is American anime fans are so insane about it. Had anime been treated as something normal and no big deal, but also if adults weren't so stupid about thinking all animation is for children only to get a rude wake-up call when they find their precious angels seeing a cartoon character getting ripped in half and tits bouncing around on the screen after they came home from Blockbuster, maybe anime fans wouldn't have grown up so neurotic about it.Anime going mainstream in the west has been nothing but a disaster.
I don't know, maybe. I mean I have little frame of reference about anything like that because I was born in the mid 90s, and when I was a kid my pop had tapes of Akira and Ghost in the Shell, when VIZ put out the Gundam trilogy he bought it, watched DBZ with my brother and I a little. he grew up in the 70s with Star Blazers and Gatchaman so I guess he was just hip to that shit but he also wasn't a weeb about it. but obviously my mother didn't give a shit. she couldn't be bothered to sit through a cartoon at all even kid stuff with me as a little guy but she treated it like any other genre she didn't care for like horror movies or something and was like whatever if it keeps you occupied for two hours and you aren't retarded enough to think it's real or reenact it who cares.Y'know, I have to wonder if parents (soccer moms mostly) having freak-outs over anime and calling it creepy misogynistic violent schlock has played a part in why it is American anime fans are so insane about it. Not gonna happen. Why would a japanese granny care about insane, raging men in dresses from overseas?get this fear that if new Ranma gets made, some "modern fan" asks a question to the mangaka, she gives an answer they don't like to hear, she did dismiss questions about Ranma and pregnancy, and they get social media and "game journalists" to turn her into the next JK Rowling if you know what I mean.
But if Ranma was somehow impregnated, would he kill the baby? These are important questions! The question is how you would even manage that. Ranma thinks of himself as a man even in girl form (one reason "Tranny" interpretations fall flat--Ranma is well aware his female form is just a curse and not really him). I doubt Ranma would ever like anyone enough to want to have their babies without mind control being involved... and you could never force yourself on him because Ranma's one of the best martial artists ever.
And in the show, most people back off once they learn Ranma's true form is a man anyway.
A cool, simple, low budget pixel art fighting game would be cool. Something like on the scale of the TMNT brawler they released a couple of years ago.Would be nice if a new 2D fighting game comes out of this
Ryoga, he's really funny. His terrible sense of direction never gets old.So who is everybodies favorate Ranma character?
Exactly.A cool, simple, low budget pixel art fighting game would be cool. Something like on the scale of the TMNT brawler they released a couple of years ago.
It's not just the artstyle, it's also the coloration and brightness.Unless they get Atsuko Nakajima back to do the animation character designs the Ranma 1/2 will not look the same. For such a huge iconic series having anyone else who doesn't have a very similar art style will be outputting.
Agreed and have seen it with the Bastard! remake where they got the artstyle, coloration and brightness wrong for trying to replicate the early 90ies look of the OVAs. Heroic Legend of Prince Aslan remake is one where everyone involved didn't even bothered to replicate anything of the OVAs, manga or the original novels. Leaving the remake to look bland as fuck compared to the OVAs which dripped hard on the late 80ies and early 90ies (gaming) aesthetics. It's not just the artstyle, it's also the coloration and brightness.
I just want Girl Type Ranma to be a red head. It's not just the artstyle, it's also the coloration and brightness.
I wonder that at times too. What came first? The autist or the anime?Y'know, I have to wonder if parents (soccer moms mostly) having freak-outs over anime and calling it creepy misogynistic violent schlock has played a part in why it is American anime fans are so insane about it. Perverted old man characters like him and Roshi are hilarious, plus they trigger libtards, if anything they should up the ante, not remove him.I fucking hope they tone down old fuck Happosai and his perversions or maybe even remove him.
It's an outdated trope that would only worsen today's porn riddled climate. It was effective years ago when liberals were simply snobby pricks to be poked fun of, not a specially catered mental case riddled with potential sex offenders.Perverted old man characters like him and Roshi are hilarious, plus they trigger libtards, if anything they should up the ante, not remove him.
