Y'know, I have to wonder if parents (soccer moms mostly) having freak-outs over anime and calling it creepy misogynistic violent schlock has played a part in why it is American anime fans are so insane about it. Had anime been treated as something normal and no big deal, but also if adults weren't so stupid about thinking all animation is for children only to get a rude wake-up call when they find their precious angels seeing a cartoon character getting ripped in half and tits bouncing around on the screen after they came home from Blockbuster, maybe anime fans wouldn't have grown up so neurotic about it.

I don't know, maybe. I mean I have little frame of reference about anything like that because I was born in the mid 90s, and when I was a kid my pop had tapes of Akira and Ghost in the Shell, when VIZ put out the Gundam trilogy he bought it, watched DBZ with my brother and I a little. he grew up in the 70s with Star Blazers and Gatchaman so I guess he was just hip to that shit but he also wasn't a weeb about it. but obviously my mother didn't give a shit. she couldn't be bothered to sit through a cartoon at all even kid stuff with me as a little guy but she treated it like any other genre she didn't care for like horror movies or something and was like whatever if it keeps you occupied for two hours and you aren't retarded enough to think it's real or reenact it who cares.

I personally think it's more of a case of idiots who grew up liking certain things, but now complain about everything being "problematic" in every other faucet of their lives jumping through hoops to explain why NO THIS THING I LOVE ISN'T BAD even though it might be based on their specific morality. and trying to put it in their current framework and be like oh no guys actually it was ahead of it's time and was forward thinking blah blah blah when in reality, you retard you can like something that is a product of it's time and that's just fine. it might not be something that if made today you would like because of certain things but stupid people always want to attribute 2024 sensibilities to something made actual decades ago. and even so if something is made today that has elements of it you don't gel with, you can still like it you stupid fuck. Agreed and have seen it with the Bastard! remake where they got the artstyle, coloration and brightness wrong for trying to replicate the early 90ies look of the OVAs. Heroic Legend of Prince Aslan remake is one where everyone involved didn't even bothered to replicate anything of the OVAs, manga or the original novels. Leaving the remake to look bland as fuck compared to the OVAs which dripped hard on the late 80ies and early 90ies (gaming) aesthetics.
