The weak are destined to be taken advantage of by the strong in politics. You can see this all through out history, sometimes it's done more forcefully, other times that's not the case. But it will happen eventually.

I took it more that they did not know what to do with high technology. Which to me seems like because they were not yet ready to face it. They basically had the whole steam age/industrial revolution skipped over, which I think can cause bad things to society because it has less time to adjust to the rapid, radical and sweeping changes that such a technological uplifting means.
They did not have the centuries to get used to it like Europeans did.

That African guy is so uncomfy because he's sitting there listening to some Chinese dude generalise about his entire continent and heritage. Nevermind that, in general, the Chinese dude is RIGHT, it's just that he's ignoring some significant contributing factors.
Things the Europeans Did "Right":
-They (and especially the Belgians) deliberately inflamed ethnic tensions by playing ethnic tribes off of each other.
-Corrupt militias/elites were/are flooded with foreign money in exchange for land/mineral grants that fucked over local people.
-It's in everyone's (ie. China, North America and Europe's) best interests that Africa remain subservient regarding mineral and resource extraction at this point. Any latent independence/socialist/nationalist movements are nipped in the bud by foreign managements.
-How is that African guy supposed to respond? His people act like people all over the world do on payday. I would challenge that Chinese dude to go to the centre of Kowloon Walled City and not find working class Joes who spend their paycheques on beer and "shaking their behinds".

The Chinaman is half correct in attributing blame for the current state of African continent. While it is true that the Africans neglected and destroyed the European colonial infrastructure after independence, that disintegration was largely due to the Europeans failing to educate and train enough Africans to maintain the colonial infrastructure once the European administrators, technical experts, and civil servants were out of the picture.
As an example, on the eve of the Belgian Congo's independence, there were only 14 university-educated natives in the entire colony. You cannot expect a country the size of France and with a population of 16 million to competently govern and maintain itself when only 14 people there have university degrees.
Plus most overseas colonies were not that efficient under European administration anyway. They were almost universally prestige projects that operated with a net loss every year. Only Europeans to turn a profit on 19th century colonies were the Dutch in the East Indies and the British in South Africa, India, and S.E. Asia. All the other European colonies in Africa- French, Germans, Belgians, Portuguese, Spanish, Italians - were a drain on their coloniser's coffers.

And add to this that there were no systems in place to check the local leaders' corruption or powergrabs.
I hear rumors every month about aid shipments ending up in the leader's pocket while the people starve.
I understand that this is too much of a general blanket anecdotal statement from me, but I feel like I hear it too often for it to be just fantasy.

But that is their system of government: all resources go to the chieftan, who doles out food and justice and discipline. This is their native societal structure, the one they followed before the colonists came along. (Perhaps it was ours, thousands of years ago. It's a pretty obvious way for small tribal groups to be).
If we impose a 'better' system on them, it will be an artificial, imperialist one of our devising.

Don't give them modern technology and just let them develop at their own pace as they are comfortable with. But that's already not an option. That's why the third world got such hyper overpopulation. They are still breeding as if there was no modern medicine. But with medicine, like lemmings they grew too populous and then blam, food shortage.

They did have a strong production capability and military. So I would not put them on the same rate as 3rd world countries. Mind their method of production was not a long term solution and now they got a poisoned land and debt.

idk, I don't think that has much to do with the point buddy makes in the video. In the video, he's basically saying the people in whatever country he's in could not sustain any knowledge of superior technology and just left it to decay, and that their inability to pass down experience is why they're in the situation they're in today.

It's almost like you don't want to point out all of these things happened everywhere, including Europe. Yet only one place seems to a dump.
During things like the 7 years war, 30, years war Europe was still the world power when they were fighting over in layman's terms "is the pope cool" or "is it ok I'm marrying my sister off for a sweet new hat?"
You consider the bad deals they made as corrupt, I'd agree, but two things on that, you are ignoring, they didn't care about their own people to get some wealth and how/why are/were those people in power?
There's been a history of playing tribes against each other since the first day, it's silly to give that cause hell we are currently doing it (We being the developed world) to places and they have a much better quality of life, for example Ukraine.
The United States is a "ethnic mess" yet feel free to name other countries who've gone to the moon.
Africa has some how rolled to be the shit bottom of the pot in the human race, and over all seem dare say content about it, because as you mentioned it's in everyone else's best interests they do.
China is a whole different ball game, and you have to understand they are just getting caught up to the western world. You know that kid at 16 years old who got a hand me down Honda accord and thinks he's ready to street race dodge vipers? Yea. That's China now.
The more I've researched into how the west works with Africa, I do fully agree we have chosen to suppress them, but it's hard to feel bad as there are many nations that have had a much shorter history of freedoms, safety and modern tech handed to them, and aren't as fucked. We also made sure for some feel good points to fuck all of Africa over by making S.A. a dump so bad no one wanted it so the Boer's settled there out of a dire want to have something of their own, to a booming state, and let a bunch of numb skulls crush it for progressive feel good points. For each white person they kicked out, of their or Rhodisa you caused the death and starving of at least 100 Africans. Br-fucking-vo. Yet we never speak of the bad policies people like Mandella had. In no way am I skirting the cruelty of those nations just pointing out it's very much a point of moral debate.
When you put the stuff on paper, crime rates, employment, income, life expectancy and the such, it's a much different ball game. Is it worth twice the life span, medical care, and food to be a second class citizen? Well, that is honestly up to you to choose.
the food shipments kill more than they save point blank it's well known and documented, but the UN knows a few nice photo ops is well worth the lives of 100 or so young Africans. Fuck the UN. It also ruins their economy and farming. China (from this film) wants to use Africa to farm to eat like Americans. With the surplus of food they would have then most of the world food issues could be handled. But the main hurdle will be water, both for the crops and less so for people. A few dozen can drop as long as we get some tender beef and maybe a nice mellon mid February.
I hope this didn't come off as a racist rant it's just while I agree, everyone is fucking the African continent and people over, it's been a very long time they had the right/reason/power. To say no but they still sell themselves out. For that it's really hard to feel bad.
