I'm currently reading Jared Diamond's "Guns, Germs and Steel" which attempts to answer why Europe (as well as a good bit of Asia) tended to do so much better than the rest of the world. It's really vary interesting, and a lot more complex than one would think. His theory is that success has less to do with superior intellect and more to do with opportunity and necessity. Some parts are kinda dry, but I think it's worth a look.

Ooh, NICE. I'm going to but a kindle copy of this and get to reading! Thanks for the link. I like this explanation a heckuva lot better than it being dna. The book seems to have gotten pretty good reviews, too.

GGS is rubbish. If you look up any responses they aren't able to be countered and the author himself has a chimp out history nearly making him a lol cow in his own right.

Remember the person who wrote this, has a huge tie in to gun control hence only white devils have guns in his book, (ignoring the state of Africa currently) and oh yea same guy who said farming is literally worse than A-bombs or Hitler.

Ever notice the shittiest parts of Sub-Saharan Africa are all Muslim, while predominately Muslim Arab "white" North Africa is relatively civilized? You can't blame West Europe because they occupied both regions and the contrast is night and day.

Well, I haven't heard THAT, but I do find his theory interesting. (Not the one about farming being worse than Hitler)
