The setting has a strong appeal for cryptofascists and autists. For instance, people will argue that the developers hate X or Y faction by going through the regiments of that army, determining their average experience level, multiplying it by the level of advanced technology in use with an additional bonus for top-quality gear, and then using that one number as "concrete indicators" of how much favor one side has. Then there's a lot of people who spend a creepy amount of time talking about how well society would function with a hierarchical system with the military on top and decision-making and leadership were determined by single combat.

I think he was "Jaded" on SASS, and posted a spergy e-mail to Lowtax about being banned and how he was gonna do a chargeback on his CC and we all laughed. Then later, he posted on SA about how he duped those pants shitters, etc. I think he was banned again.

I've not posted on that site in a long time but IIRC it was similar back then (You'd also get banned if you mentioned the pirate forums outside of said forums), I guess Lowtax wanted to legitimise the forums or something since around that time there was a callout thread on FYAD (Their shitposting board) for people posting underage anime porn on their anime sub forum (4chan similarly got rid of that around the same time ).

Lowtax took down the filez forums because he used to use paypal but they terminated his account because it was a violation of their TOS. Not to mention that it was illegal.

SA probably shouldn't have it's own thread (let alone board) because it's not active enough and everybody knows that it's past its peak, plus the paywall isn't worth what must be a couple of screencaps. I was never really into SA I think I might have a paid account somewhere. I think there are things to like about the payment thing, it's my understanding that 10 bux get you in for life, until you're banned then it's 10 bux to get unbanned.

So it keeps the site funded and discourages bad behavior but you can behave bad if you really need to and don't have to worry too hard about the consequences of pushing the envelope.
But how it plays out in real life I don't know, the forums aren't even compelling enough to keep me reading after paying.
