Something needs to be done about newfags necroposting. - No we can't poison them.

I never understood why this was such a big deal. I mean, a fourm is meant to be a long term discussion platform, and complaining that people have something to say about something that nobody has said anything about for a while on a platform designed to allow that just seems pretty dumb. Sometimes its even a good thing in some cases. Having threads be automatically locked after a certain time would be pretty dumb as old people, things, and situations can always be looked back on with a new point of view or come back in some form, allowing for new discussion to be had.

But i guess in something like this its slightly more understandable than theowing a mega tantrum because somebody in the steam game discussions responded to a thread 3 months later because the fix for an old issue didnt fix that issue for them and they didnt want to make a new thread only to have the thread just be the exact same unworking fixes from the old one. Validating the files didnt work the last 7 times, i dont think doing it an 8th time is going to bring the skybox back.

The main problem is newfags generally adding nothing to the conversation. Just saying 'good' or some dumb joke rather than an actual update.

reddit actually changed it's functionality recently to allow replies \ ratings after that point, if the subreddit mods wish.

The similar threads feature doesn't work very well 99% of the time imo. Like if you go to the Louis Gagliardi thread, the "similar" threads are two other unconnected people called Louis and someone who goes by the online handle "Louis XIII" in a thread with one post since 2014. If it's causing these problems and isn't all that useful, maybe turn it off?

I don't mind necroposting if it's content that actually adds something to the thread. Some places auto-lock threads after a certain amount of time, but that'd be no bueno in a place where lolcows sometimes lie dormant for months or years before tard-raging back to life.

If necroposting wasn't allowed then we'd have to make a new thread every 6 months to tell people byuu's name still doesn't show up on the government kill list.

lolcows could abuse this after seeing they have a thread here so they'll say "I'll pretend to not be a retard for a few months and my thread should get locked."

We wouldn't want that would we.

Without necro posting this just simply wouldn’t be the same forum. Sometimes people have hella important ideas that must be posted immediately but they don’t want to waste time making a whole new thread they want to put the information inside of the relevant thread! Relevant thread for relevant information! If there was some type of lock on posting in threads that are 30 days old or some other time people on this forum would just start going insane and people would be making 100 new threads every single day because the thread they needed to make the post inside of had already reached its 30 day limit of necro!!!!!!!!! Ahhhhhhhh!!!!! Nooooooo!!!!!
