Sony hate thread

Getting a foothold may be an exaggeration (especially with the issue of scalping) but a recent weekly Famitsu report from last month has portrayed the Xbox Series S selling thrice the number compared to the PS5

The last time that the Xbox outsold the Playstation was in September 2014 when the Xbox One launched in Japan, and such instances happened less than 10 times ever since Microsoft came into the japanese console market accordingly.
People are reading supply issue numbers as trends. Series S has already been available at discount but Microsoft has not raised it's supply of Series X consoles to Japan.

Xbox has put more resources into China than they have in previous generations but they have not done the same to Japan.

Wait, do you think Japan is dying while the west is thriving or the other way around?
I don't think any of that.

Japan has mostly decided to play mobile games. I'm not one to really care for mobile games due to their monetary practices, they're really not that different from MMos except you have to pay for the grind even more so. That's not dying as it is a change in preferences. Mobile games dominate in japan, they make 1/3rd of all global purchases with mobile shit.

The west still plays consoles games and the next gen systems in other parts of asia like china have larger demand than their previous incarnations. All the emerging markets in asia seem to share that similar mentality with the next gen systems as well.

What Sony is doing with their expansion into mobile games isn't going to hurt their console games or take away resources. All that shit will still be there but they'll have a more robust mobile section. People are already using the PS4 and PS5 to play MTX heavy games, the only difference would be sony would have control over these new IPs if they ever take off. Their mobile stuff is supposed to function in a similar way as current mobile games do now where you can play them on PC, Phones, or consoles.

the japanese gaming industry is dead and not worth catering to because of mobile games but at the same time sony choosing to cater to mobile games wont affect them at all, not even the slightest bit, not even 1% less :story:
Their mobile expansion isn't infringing on what already exists when it comes to consoles. While they would still be part of sony their success or failure would not stop their single player games from coming out. They have an existing mobile division that's been around for a long time. If the Playstation mobile stuff takes off more than likely their existing mobile games would then be absorbed by playstation. Those games are what would be effected.

It's not like it's pokemon where the games are subject to exterior things like merch releases and mobile games which have caused a decrease in quality for the main series because they have to rush shit out.

That's literally impossible. Any resources they are putting towards mobile, by necessity, have to be diverted from somewhere else. They aren't just pulling those resources out of their ass. The more they invest in mobile, the less investment they give to other ventures. Its why Nintendo combined their handheld and console development divisions; so they could consolidate resources.

The mobile resources and acquisitions have come from Sony Group itself.

They're not mothballing shit from playstation. It's the parent company now investing a ton into this. The studios they're using are not even the same ones that make stuff like Horizon and GOW. Sony Group has pretty much been behind this whole expanse including stuff like the bungie purchase and the current unknown acquisitions that are to happen later in the year and next year.

When they mean One Sony Policy, it's all of sony as a single corporate entity and this has been what Tokyo has wanted for a long ass time. Even Ken and Kaz wanted to do it.

Microsoft's strategy is similar in concept but executed differently because games are not their primary money maker, windows and it's whole ecosystem is. Xbox is treated as an entryway into that ecosystem, it's not the end goal where as for sony the PS5 is the end goal.
Microsoft is still in the software industry with Windows. Sony's most successful brand is the PlayStation. Their TVs aren't selling, their movies aren't getting major box office turnovers, hell, they even left Walkmans to the dust.

Their mobile division did make a larger profit for the first time since 2017, but that side of their business is pretty much on life support, they've dropped the PlayStation mobile store years ago, their mobile titles are lackluster and are too spread out too make them much money and only really seem to be advertisements for their main releases, and they are far more interested in putting resources into making hardware, to sell their games which ties directly into selling their major products, which as far as I know don't have anything to do with mobile games, unless Moira can point me to some type of announcement that Sony said they are expanding their mobile business operations, I can't see what point he's trying to make.

Their live service stuff is to be on PC, Mobile and consoles. It's following other shit like Fortnite which appears on PC, Mobile, and Consoles. They're doing 12 of these cross platform things with the expectation at least one makes it out alive. But with any of these games mobile is going to be the most accessible platform also the fact that their monetization behaves like a mobile game.

I mean their mobile strategy is right here.

Nobody said anything about them mothballing anything. The only way they can put more resources into mobile is by realigning resources from other areas, because, resources, whether it be time, money, personnel or something else, are finite.

Sony has yet to show any major investment into mobile. Bungie, for instance, is not a mobile developer and Destiny isn't a mobile game. Not to say they won't invest in the future, but they haven't done so, and any investment in that direction, once again, means they won't invest into other areas of the business. They've actually put more investment towards PC gaming than they have towards mobile.

Windows isn't even where Microsoft makes most of their money. Its in their enterprise business, such as their server and cloud stuff, where Microsoft cleans up.

That slide is a lot of business buzzwords but no actual concrete information or strategy. In other words, its nothing but air. Now, granted, I'm not exactly expecting them to lay out a strategy, even to investors. But this indicates little to nothing for what they will actually do moving forward that they haven't already done.

Sony is not as stupid as Epic games. Sony realize it is far more profitable to use steam than to create their own PC storefront
They've learned from watching Microsoft flounder in this area. If even Microsoft couldn't be successful doing that, and they own the Windows platform, Sony would have no chance to succeed. You go where the audience already is, because that's where the money is. Microsoft found that out the hard way. Even EA themselves are now putting their games on Steam. They just make you sign in to origin when you want to play. Which is, honestly, much smarter than forcing people to use Origin just to play.
