Sony hate thread

In this economy, you’ll have to print your own money or just buy a discounted PS1. Spending an extra $100 off of a PS5 that hasn’t even sold half of what the PS4 is just too much of a gamble. At worst, it’s just wasting money.
During a recession no less! It'll still sell, but Sony isn't going to recoup their losses long term. Meanwhile, MS is being consumer friendly and proactive with the chips shortage. Xbox Series S may be a DRM nightmare of the making, but Game Pass and availability is helping MS this generation.

If I had saudi money, I would buy Konami and have all its executives flayed alive in public.
Same, only replace Konami with SEGA.

I like how the article juxtaposes the news right next to a blurb about Steam Deck availability improving, as if to say "yeah, PlayStation's over, just buy a Steam Deck already"

Trust the plan. They wouldn't have to do this if backwards gamers had just bought the PS5 like they were supposed to. We could've already been living in the Perfect Future™️ of Play.

If we get the return of FIVE HUNDRED NINETY NINE U.S. DOLLARS I'm gonna have such a blast shitposting about it.

Is anyone actually excited for Forspoken? I really couldn’t care less about that game. The combat looks awful, the world looks bland, dialogue is painful. The maybe two positives I can give it is the movement looks cool and the soundtrack sounds good. But if I wanted a good advanced movement game, I could just play prototype. And if I want to listen to a good soundtrack, I could play any other Squeenix game. And $70? No wonder they delayed it twice, but even then that can’t fix the bad dialogue and the boring looking gameplay.
I didn't even hear about it until I think Fake E3 2022, so I looked up what it even was and the cover was just:
Forspoken-Cover-Amerimutt.jpg

and I said "lol, no"

How can you increase the price on a product that isn't even available?
My personal guess is that it is to offset the poor software sales and the lack of actual users, and maybe make more money off of scalpers buying PS5s in bulk
Remember that SIE still won't divulge how much software is selling on PS5 vs. PS4, they only give combined numbers (latest report here). Which I think they also include MTX and console+game bundles in the mix.

Based Sony charging more to increase the elite status of the videogame console, I mean PS4 port machine.

So you're apart of the group that will literally buy everything without any real thought into it huh?
I did do my research, which is why I wont buy if people I trust say its shit. The word is it will feature micro-transactions and they are trying to shoehorn a connection to a mainline FF game.

It's not like Sony hasn't tried it themselves....
they both pull that shit when they think they own the market, however in sony's case that shit is usually easy to ignore (like vita memory sticks, unless you bought a vita ofc....), ms retardation otoh has a good chance to fuck things up for good for years to come. remember ie6? remember silverlight? and that's before getting into their 360 policies....

they're flush with good properties that've been squandered to all hell and back.
a lot of companies are. however the problem is like every other nostalgia property: if it's too obscure or too old might as well try to market a new IP since there's no bonus. pretty sure not a lot of people heard of soul blazer, and a new actraiser would probably be an abomination anyway (and I rather not have all the zoomer faggots suddenly go THE OG 2D DARK SOULS!!11" and behaving like they always knew and played the series).

EU faggots fucked up the 360. The PS3 had its own problem known as YLOD. The Yellow Light of Death. I don't know what caused it.
shit thermics. look into the first model and their borderline nonexistent cooling. the hotter shit gets the more solders break or move, and iirc the 360 was already slightly bent by default. that's why one common "fix" was to literally bake the motherboard so things might set again (unless you weren't willing or straight up unable to do it properly).

it also was less of an issue with the ps3 since the YLOD mostly happened with fat ones, once the slim came out that issue was pretty much eliminated. ms did the same, however there were a lot more OG 360s around than phat MUH $699 ps3s.

In fairness to a potential price increase, that IS where the market is at right now. If a used item outprices a new one AND you can't increase supply THEN you should obviously increase the price to take that free money. Sony didn't cause the chip shortage/generic supply chain issues but it's here and it's industry-wide so you might as well price things accordingly.

As an aside, this is the general argument about price caps. In an emergency it's better to have price gouging (charging more than general accepted value to those willing to pay) than price caps because price caps encourage hording (or, in this case, reselling at a markup which might as well be hording since it's still an artificial supply restriction.)

EU faggots fucked up the 360. The PS3 had its own problem known as YLOD. The Yellow Light of Death. I don't know what caused it. I knew a few people that got the YLOD and some PS3's even had the DRE issue the early model PS2's had. It didn't seem like the PS3 had as big of an issue with the YLOD as the 360 did with the RROD. Sony wasn't promising to fix peoples PS3's years after they bought them.
The PS3 YLOD was caused by the same issue as the RROD. The PPPHHHAT PS3 had the benefit of being built like a brick shithouse though. With a far larger heatsink and fan that moved significantly more air, combined with lower operating temp targets (70C vs 95C IIRC), and a thicker, more expensive motherboard required to support the higher consumption hardware accidentally resulting in larger more resilient solder joints, and allowed firmware updates to increase fan speed ot keep temps (and YLODs) down.
Console faggots and their tiny little SSD's. Girls are probably laughing at them when they see them. I have a 2TB and 4TB SSD in my PC. It's SATA but still.
*laughs in 8TB PCIe 4.0 SSD.

Druckmann is probably throwing a huge fit behind the scenes; Sony had to shove off this port to Iron Galaxy instead of doing it in-house, which all the others have been.
Wait, did they seriously get Iron Galaxy to do the port? I mean, they're not a horrible porting studio, but god damn has IG fallen down. They got a huge break with KI and for some reason after that they've been making absolute bombs. I blame Keits and them hiring Adam Boyes. I have no doubt Keits will whine about the rumored new KI game without realizing how stupid it is for him to do so. Kinda a shame, same thing happened to Double Helix who ironically also worked on Killer Instinct. Bought out by Amazon and made into a studio that makes boring shit.

They all do it. But the HDD thing with the 360 was just so stupid. Especially since you could put any laptop sized HDD into a ps3.

One example would be the memory stick/card things for the Vita. Even used they are expensive as hell. I know because I bought two of them.

I brought up the PS Vita memory sticks. I bought a used PS Vita a few years ago and the memory sticks are expensive even when you buy them used. Sony basically killed the PS Vita that way. The memory sticks were too expensive, so no one really bought the Vita. Lack of sales meant no one wanted to make games for it which just made the sales issue worse. It's not a bad handheld system. But Sony was just stupid. From what I heard they were concerned about piracy.

My nephew had a friend who had one of those early model fat PS3's and he ended up with the DRE and later on got the YLOD issue. I think that was around 2008 or 2009.

Years ago, YouTube was flooded with videos about not buying used 360's from GameStop because they were selling a lot of the older models that would get the RROD issue. GameStop was doing some kind of temporary fix, but it would eventually happen. I watched a few videos and people would take them apart and show you all the shitty repair jobs GameStop had done to get them functional again.

I didn't know what caused it. I didn't hear about it much back then. the 360 RROD issue got most of the attention. The 360 was the top seller in the US. One of my nephews had a 360 and he had it for a few years, but it eventually got the RROD and they shipped it back to MS. MS repaired it and from what I understand it lasted the rest of the time till he got a ps4 years ago.

I plan to get a 2TB PCIe SSD pretty soon. I only have two mounting points on the side of my PC case for SSD's and I am not reinstalling the HDD cages just to mount a new SSD.

Both companies have dozens of underutilized IPs, but they just want one thing, and it is disgusting:

Sony doesn't sound thrilled Microsoft is buying Call of Duty maker Activision

Argues that COD development cannot be rivalled, and influences users' choice of console.
A Brazilian governmental filing has given us a rare glimpse into Sony's thoughts on the impending $69bn Microsoft buyout of Activision Blizzard - and specifically, the fact that Xbox will soon own blockbuster first-person shooter franchise Call of Duty.

In Brazil, companies within the same sphere of any such corporate transaction are asked for their thoughts on deals of this magnitude. And, intriguingly for us, Brazil also posts all of these details online (albeit in some cases with redacted passages).

Sony's response is largely public, and contains a number of arguments which paint the potential of Xbox owning Call of Duty in a problematic light (as spotted by ResetEra, and translated for us by Eurogamer Portugal).
To begin with, Sony argues that Call of Duty is a franchise with no rival - something even EA's Battlefield might privately agree with.

Entries into the Call of Duty franchise "tend to be long-running franchises with big budgets, multi-year development cycles, and fanatical followings," Sony wrote. "And despite large budgets and resources, no other developer has managed to create a franchise to rival Activision's Call of Duty, which stands out as a gaming category in its own right."

Sony describes Call of Duty as "an essential game", "a blockbuster, a AAA-like game that has no rival" and quotes a 2019 study that found COD to be the only video game property that has broken into the top 10 most lucrative entertainment franchises globally, alongside "powerhouses like Star Wars, Game of Thrones, Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings".

More intriguingly, Sony suggests that Call of Duty "is so popular that it influences users' choice of console, and its network of loyal users is so ingrained that even if a competitor had the budget to develop a similar product, it wouldn't be able to rival it".

This is a fascinating argument for Sony to be making, since Sony itself has closely partnered with Call of Duty over the past couple of console generations, offering perks and early access to those playing COD on PlayStation.

"Call of Duty is heavily entrenched, so no rival - no matter how relevant - can achieve it," Sony concluded. "Call of Duty has been the top-selling game for nearly every year over the past decade, and for its genre, it's overwhelmingly the best-selling game. It's synonymous with first-person shooters and essentially defines that category."

For its part, Microsoft has previously committed to launching Call of Duty games on PlayStation "beyond the existing agreement and into the future". This year's Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.0 will both launch on Sony platforms.

Beyond this, it has been reported that the Call of Duty franchise will take an unprecedented break in 2023, before Black Ops studio Treyarch's next title arrives at some point after that. This game is also believed to be part of PlayStation's existing agreement, suggesting nothing little will change - for now.

More intriguingly, Sony suggests that Call of Duty "is so popular that it influences users' choice of console, and its network of loyal users is so ingrained that even if a competitor had the budget to develop a similar product, it wouldn't be able to rival it".
"Call of Duty is heavily entrenched, so no rival - no matter how relevant - can achieve it," Sony concluded.
Gee, Sony sure does seem to be familiar with the idea of a company only being popular because it was grandfathered into an unquestioningly loyal fanbase who will always buy the latest product regardless of its actual quality compared to its competition.
