Serious question, why do people even want a PS5 anyway? If you ask someone why they’d want a Switch, they’ll start naming off first party games they care about. Xbox fans will talk about Game Pass, enhanced backwards compatibility, and maybe messing around with emulators. PC fans will talk about power (and in a handheld format in the case of the Steam Deck), games that work best with a KB+M, and customization/mods. The only argument for a PS5 I’ve ever heard - when someone even attempts to explain it at all - is “it’s the new Playstation”. The same thing happened with PS4, but it’s even worse now that all of their competition has improved significantly since 2013.

I'd imagine it is a mixture of people who still like Sonys movie-games, people who like Bloodborne/Demons Souls and are hoping for sequels to them and idiots like me who always considered Playstation to be the home of JRPGs when it looks like any of the decent ones will probably just be released on PC/Xbox as well so i didn't really need the PS5 i have that i barely use.

This is a problem that has plagued modern writers today. Characters like Frey are more or less self inserts for the writers. These writers, being narcissist's who haven't mentally aged past high school, don't want to make their characters go through the Hero's Journey because in doing so they will have to admit that they themselves have faults, that they are wrong and others are right. Moist Cr1kal brought up a good point in his playthrough about how writers today refuse to let their characters go through a redemption arc. For those that don't know, Joseph Campbell in his Hero's Journey stated that every hero who goes through the hero's journey needs to go through some sort of redemption arc. This is called the "Abyss" or the "Death & Rebirth" in the journey. This brings about the transformation of the hero where they atone for their past mistakes and has them become the hero they were meant to be. The hero becomes stronger, wiser and more compassionate after going through this arc.
The writers for Forspoken did not want Frey to go through this arc because self inserts, especially female ones, are perfect the way they are. They don't need to atone! It is everyone else who needs to atone for the strong heroine! This makes the hero not a hero and one that audiences can't get behind.
Sounds like you're describing Whorra.

He brings up a good point. Many of the politics, humor and writing you see feels like it was written by a Twitter addict. The type of humor in games now is that weird childish insults mixed with curse words. The kind you see from woke libshits on Twitter who think "twat waffle" and "bitch muffin" are great and edgy insults. No longer do you have games with nuanced politics like the first Bioshock or Fallout: New Vegas. (Josh Sawyer has a degree in history and is fascinated with how cultures with different ideologies functioned. Ken Levine read all of Ayn Rand's books to better understand Objectivism despite his disagreements with the philosophy.) Instead most writers just look at some idiots Twitter account and see which political tweet is trending. "Oh! Someone tweeted; "Death to capitalism! Workers rise up!"? Better add that to the game!"
The writing is also like those weird quirky and random tweets that you see from weirdos who you know don't get out much. Tweets like Chuck Wendig's infamous Magic Skeleton tweet. The problem is that many millennial writers think that the majority of the population is just like Twitter even though time and again reality has proven that Twitter is just a small echo chamber. It is not indicative of the real world despite how millennial writers wish it were so.
I have a suspicion most of this is due to misunderstanding what made 7th gen titles funny or have good dialogue. I think the biggest contributor to the current annoying humor trend was Portal. Portal became a meme machine in it prime for stuff like Cave Johnson’s rants and the Space Core. I feel like modern writers are trying to mimic it by filling their game with wacky dialogue.

Portal worked because the characters were balanced, Chell was a blank slate, the Cores and Johnson could be annoying idiots shouting random things, and Glados was the cynic that kept the idiots in line. Portal used dialogue for story telling, Glados shows more signs of being not right, Cave Johnson is having a mental breakdown, and the cores’ idiocy was a tool to depower Glados. The game also had brevity to make the dialogue stick out.

Creators today want their characters to be Space Core, but with him following you the entire game rather than a funny way to handle the boss. They think that just having Johnson and Space Core having a shouting match will be comedy gold, when in reality, the two would get irritating beyond belief if pushed further. It doesn’t help that the dialogue given to these new creations tells nothing about the world and is just there to be a Reddit gold post.

That was my problem with Handsome Jack; the dude isn't funny and he never shuts the fuck up. I'd be willing to accept it, if there was a twist where you kill him because he's just so fucking annoying; instead they try to set him up as some sort of morally evil person, when I couldn't give two fucks of what he did in story, I want him dead so he can stop fucking radioing me with his retarded fucking narcissism. All I wanted to do was shoot shit and collect guns; and no, I'm not falling for any sort of meta about "We make you hate him so you feel okay killing him."

Isnt one of the reasons why modern vidya is shit is because of the autistic focus on casuals ( i mean what the explanation for the tlod 2 accessibility options ) and mobile.
I am going off the 2000s definition, which was basically I play COD and Halo. There used to be an autistic movement of ‘real’ gamers being the ones who sucked the dick of every FPS game and GTA. Nowadays we call them normies and they usually expand to EA sports shit. The death of gaming can be greatly attributed to these folk.

I believe the one you are speaking about now is the more ‘games are art crowd.’ These fuckers don’t really value video games nor play them, they just want to be the most profound autist in the new town. Jornoscum as most put it, or Sony’s modern audience behind 2K ‘real’ gamers.

There was also the Wii casuals, but they died off besides mobile apps and most companies not named Nintendo stopped the blue ocean strategy. Long term, this was the least detrimental group as it was mainly old folks and families that linger in the medium at best and really only affect Nintendo.

The first two groups are why Sony sucks. They are playing to either basic bitches or your average video essayist. The video essayist is why the handicap options are needed if I wasn’t clear.

What is funny is that Handsome Jack was an outlet for Anthony and Ashley Burch's daddy issues. But yeah, writers today seem to think annoying = enduring. Contrast this with great villains like Andrew Ryan or Caesar. These were villains who we wanted to hear more from, to learn more from. However, to create such villains requires brevity, subtly and talent. Brevity, subtly and talent that most writers don't have. Plus, many writers today think that the audience is stupid. RedLetterMedia talks about this a lot. Writers today do not trust or value the audiences intelligence. They believe that they have to spell everything out to them overwise they would miss something important. This guy is the bad guy. You have to hate him! In contrast to the first Bioshock and New Vegas where we learn of the villains fall from grace, the people they have hurt, the threat they poise to the world. That is what makes such villains more intriguing and memorable then "LMAO! So random!" meme villain that games make today. People to this day still quote Andrew Ryan and Caesar. The same can't be said with modern villains today.

I didn't shoot down Pagan Minh's helicopter at the end of Far Cry 4. The story tries to set you up as some great liberator because Minh is just so evil, well okay, but let me consider the alternatives. The male rebel who wants to "return to tradition," which all the game really throws at you is the female rebel bitching about child brides. The female rebel, who wants to turn the country into an illegal drug/weapon haven; the kind of place that attracts truly evil people... like the one lieutenant who was calling his daughter like a good dad in the dungeon where he's literally torturing people to death. Umm, who exactly is the good guy; Minh may not be great, but the two replacements don't seem any better. I consider the cannon ending the one where you stay put for 10 minutes, try some crab rangue, and then get a personal guided tour to plant your mom's ashes; thank you Uncle Pagan, you're a pretty swell guy and I understand why you're fighting the rebels.

For a shooter, Far Cry makes some pretty good villains.

Far Cry 4 was pretty good as it more or less was a satire of CIA intervention in Asia and the Middle East. It makes people think that maybe the CIA back rebels aren't the good guys and maybe the country is better off in the hands of the dictator. You don't see that in games anymore. This mainly has to do with the CIA and the US government putting more money into video games to have them be propaganda. Now the CIA and CIA backed rebels are the good guys. Case in point the new Modern Warfare games.

Every fps game while they recoiled in horror when showed them actually good shooters like F.E.A.R,NOLF,DUKE 3D,etc either using arguments like muh graphix not like the yearly cawa doody goyslop or EA sports goyslop and the same people who were dumb enough to think yakuza was a gta clone because ign said so ( halo though is good just the trilogy ).

I'll admit it wasn't as revolutionary or anything as the first one; but F.E.A.R. 2 is my favorite shooter (3 can eat a dick). It was enough current year, but also enough old school arcade shooter. But couldn't hold much of an audience between the original and CoD.

Pc gaming is way too expensive and not worth it as an investment for someone who doesn't need a strong pc for work. Switch still had the reputation that its for bing bing wahoo manchild soy baby casuals and the Hex-box outside of america still has the reputation of being the console were normie burguers play madden and lacks exclusives and japanese games.

Doesn't matter if its still true or not and i am not saying i agree but perception still shapes reality. I think a lot of people are still stuck with their heads in the sixth and seven gens. Also a lot of people simply hate Microsoft.

I am personally in the cucked to pc gaming by necessity crowd, it makes no sense to buy another console, if i were to get a console i'd be Nintendo except i can just emulate bing bing wahoo.

"Playstation is for niggers" isn't a joke.

Seriously, every person I know personally who has bought a PS5 doesn't actually play games. If you ask what they are playing, it's either a sports title, a military FPS or whatever the "big thing" being talked about by influencers is.

The reason niggers cattle want a Playstation is because it's a Playstation. Simple As.
