Sony hate thread

I lived throught the 2d>3D transition. To go from Sonic and Knuckles to throwing Lara Croft off of a cliff in 3D was like nothing I've ever witnessed (Maybe VR) and I can only assume it was what people felt like when they first saw a light bulb working.
It put the awe in awetism.

Resident Evil 1 and Silent Hill were terrifying beyond comprehension and must have been how the early cinema-goers felt when that train came towards the screen.

Good fucking times.
People really forget how fucked the base One unit was, with its bundled in Kinnect, broken interface, Ryse as the launch game and inability to hit 1080p.

Xbox off.
Three OS's on a console with split ram, built directly after PS3 struggled for 8 years with split ram.
Pure.unfiltered.triple-distilled.retardation.

Yakuza 6 was a PS4 exclusive for a good three years
Didn't that come out in 2018? I'm talking the PS4 launch.

Edit: I want to clarify, I'm not saying it was wrong for people to buy a PS4 at the time with the expectation more stuff would come. But I find it weird that so many people act like Sony's practices started with the PS5, because PS4 had tons of cross platform shit for like the first two years I think.

You never jumped from 2D to 3D with Mario 64. Even MGS to the remake fails to compare.
I've been playing games since 1990.

Sony's practices started with the PS5.
Sony changed at the back end of the PS4 (IMO, YMMV) but they did keep the games coming, which made it easier to overlook the faggotry. Compared to Microsoft who went full fag and stopped releasing games.

I think Sony bought the benefit of the doubt with how the launched and handled the PS4, so the PS5 was "well, they've done well for 30 years + COVID, it'll be fine". Then it never got better.

Now, four years into the gen, the console is more expensive than launch (How are people not rioting over this?) and there are no games. Any games that are coming are being held back for the PS5pro, which will be a relaunch of the generation.

How does the console industry get back on track from here?

Yes! I was struggling to think of an example. PS4 really had more cross platform games than I realized. I even remember thinking Watch Dogs was gonna be an exclusive for a time, until I found out it was also coming to PC. And Xbox One. And Xbox 360. And PS3, despite being some bombastic new high-end title for PS4. And later Wii U, because why not.

I guess the PS4 seemed better early on, while it still had plenty of shimmer. But then mine broke around 2021, and I just haven't cared to repair or replace it. Because like, fuck it. I just don't care anymore.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong and just going on about schizo-tier tinfoil nonsense, but I vividly remember people taking apart the ps4 (and not just launch models) and finding that the first time a game was played, the ps4 would laser engrave its serial number into the disc, it's just that after the xbone fiasco, they disabled the part of the code that actually compares the system's serial number with the one engraved onto the disc, which is how sony planned to disable used games.
Pressed discs and writable ones use completely different technology. Pressed discs use a mechanical process to press the pits and lands into the data layer on the disc, whereas writable discs use specialized metallic alloys that can either crystallize or melt when exposed to high-energy laser light and mimic the optical signature of pits and lands.

There's no real mechanism for the drive on the PS4 to write a serial number to the disc. Disc games are, iirc, not serialized at all, which is one reason why it's so difficult for consoles to catch pirates playing illegitimate copies online.

ah yes MS' famous 2013 e3 which had everyone talk about their games...

I get this is the dedicated sony hate circlejerk thread, but comparing 2024 sony to 2013 sony, or the industry at large, is fucking retarded.
Yeah, even if Sony was either planning to do everything they were mocking microsoft for and quietly cancelled/delayed those plans, or in some cases, went full steam ahead with them anyways, it's impossible to deny the impact in public perception that was had.

I skipped PS3, The PS4 gave me a back catalogue of Sony games to play.
Except it didn't because the PS4 wasn't backwards compatible, unless you count the handful of "remastered" PS3 games on the system.
I know I sound like an aging Millennial fag but I am so fucking grateful that I got to experience gaming in the 90's and 00's because we will never get to experience that again *sigh*

Their exclusives suck donkey dick, even before they made every other character a GNAA rep they all followed the same shitty story heavy / boring gameplay formula started with Uncharted and made insufferable with TLOU.

Sony coasted on being a default console for a decade.

If I were to engineer such a thing, I'd imagine I'd repurpose Lightscribe to print the console's serial number in binary on the innermost part of the label on the top of the disc. I've never heard of that kind of thing being done, though.

As I skipped PS3,
No you didn't.

If this were true, the PS4 and Xbone launch sales would not have been as close as they were.

It's crazy to me how some of you seem to think that normies from 2014 and on were like "Oh yeah, Don Mattrick said some dumb shit at E3 2013. He quit, and then none of that stuff happened, but because it was said, I'm going to buy a PS4 right now."

That was the big thing and NOT the fact the PS4 was less expensive, more powerful, giving away more/better games, etc. etc?

I went from a NES to a N64. My dad use to play Zelda on the NES and had all the map tiles drawn on notecards, so he would just lay it out like a map on the floor as he was playing. Remember that famous Christmas video of a kid losing their mind because of the N64? That wasn't my reaction to the N64, that was my dad's reaction when he put on Ocarina of Time and watched Link ride Epona across Hyrule Fields as he just repeated "THOSE GRAPHICS!".

Sony needs to get their thumb out of their ass and be transparent what they need and as sucky Heres a few suggestions:

-Live service Gran Turismo like Forza
- F2P Last of Factions (the simples who would buy skins for their "faction" member
-Stop restricting PS Classics behind the highest tier of PS Plus

Points:
Forza community is built on the idea of IRL races mixed with Solo experiences. Why not GT. Sony Bought Bungie, and as shitty as destiny is, they print money F2P. They could easily revamp the old LOTUS multiplayer and reuse assets from both games now they are on modern hardware. they can do the whole loot run bit famous with tarkov. Also blocking classic games behind a paywall is retarded. Subscriptions are going up also is individual debt. Get the $10 now and then reinvest down the road into "hd remasters" people will buy.

I do count that and the games that came to PSN. Back then i was an optimism fag and believed in buying games and paying a few quid for remasters.

YMMV. Some of them were like cheesy action movies and popcorn flicks, inoffensive and a fun way to waste an afternoon.
No you didn't.
I skipped right over that piece of shit. Fuck paying £599 for a george forman grill with no games when I had enough games on Xbox to keep me happy, and they did, because Xbox had Cokehead Ballmer allowing Peter Moore to ensure studios made good games.

The normies jumped on the PS4 quicktime. I remember being surprised that the little brother of my ex had a PS4 on launch, even though he was a die-hard xbox fan. He said all the kids had PS4s and nobody bought an XBone.

I'm sure the price and form factor helped but kids really, really, really didn't want anything to do with Kinect. Nobody did. It was a disaster of a consumer electronics product and I suspect it only lasted as long as it did because the NSA+marketing corpos were funding MS to get spy cameras in every living room in the world.

because that doesn't happen in a vacuum. the welfare neet who buys games to nolife them for a few days and pawn off at cex (or gamestop for you non-bongs) for 90% MSRP or the one buying those copies is gonna take note when there's talk MS is trying to blocked used games. if there is enough talk normalfags will take notice, algorithms will push it and clips like that sony one is perfect in concise messaging to send it around on social media. once something is deemed "uncool" normalfags won't look at it twice.

after that it only takes that one "nerd" relative to recommend what to buy for their kid, or what your social circle goes with so you can play together (you don't want to be the uncool kid with the xbone when all your friends are playing destiny together on playstation, do you?)

and all that was after the legit hype and goodwill how sony handled the later half of the ps3. you're right sony didn't deliver in the end, but hindsight is always 20/20.

Yes! I was struggling to think of an example. PS4 really had more cross platform games than I realized.
multiplats were always the moneymakes, it's why sony was so butthurt about cod.
back then sony was good at marketing, most people are niggercattle, if they see it at their show they either don't know or don't care it appears on another console or platform.
sony also regularly splurged on timed exclusivity, iirc the only somewhat notable one MS bought was the tomb raider reboot.

He was saying that, due to a lack of backed in backwards compatibility you actually weren't able to play most PS3 games on the PS4. Whatever "bangers" (god what a stupid term) you went to play was probably just The Last of Us and maybe GTA V.

Yeah. I believed in the industry back then and was happy to pay for that and the Uncharted collection. Now I don't pay for shit to spite this shitty industry. I don't even pirate modern games. To me, the industry may as well have ended in 2020.
