Linux simply doesn't have compatibility due to Anti-Cheat compatibility
Correction: the Linux kernel is explicitly designed to prevent root-level spyware (which is what modern "anti-cheat" software amounts to). Ironically these developers are so shitty they can't create anti-cheat mechanisms without trying to cheat their way around the OS' security measures.

It comes down to that standard "hey this actually is my computer, not yours, game devs, and I will run what I want on it without your interference" thing that really pisses off content cartel types.

Wait, wasn't he already in charge of a Sony studio?
Deviation was reportedly “over 100 strong” in 2021 when it signed the deal with Sony. At the time of its announcement, the studio told GamesIndustry.biz that its PlayStation deal ensured “complete financial security for years and years to come”. The studio closed its doors in 2024.

Is the Steam OS really that much of a filter? It can't be harder to navigate then it's desktop app, the DS, PSP, or Vita, can it?
You cannot and don't need to do anything in the normal mode it opens. Browse the store, your library, buy a game. The browser is about as weird as the Steam client's... A rather streamlined experience. If you go to desktop mode, though... It's a normal, vanilla (sans the colours I believe) KDE. Too vanilla, actually, it doesn't come with a graphical text editor nor a web browser... And it's a weird Linux, due to the read-only filesystem and(/or?) Valve's partitioning.

Interest in PC gaming has gone up amongst the normies due to Steam.
im not denying that, thats a good thing, If PCs weren't priced as bad id say it would be even more popular then it is now, four-figure prices immediately turn most people off, even when you try to redpill someone that online is free, its still mostly out of our control

ironically it doesn't stop anything like DMA anyway, just joe casual messing around with cheat engine etc.
for that it should still work under linux.

What part of “you don’t have to pay four figures for a good gaming PC” do you not understand?

What part of “you don’t have to pay four figures for a good gaming PC” do normies not understand?
fixed it. I think what @Caddo Cobgang is trying to say is that normies dig into PC gaming, regularly see four figure price tags, and nope the fuck out without doing any further research, which I can sadly believe.

you are vastly overestimating how competent your average normalfag is when it comes to things like Linux, most of these tards only want to play Multiplayer Games and Linux simply doesn't have compatibility due to Anti-Cheat compatibility, that may change someday but there will always be a need for Consoles or something like it, I play on PC but you cant just solely rely on PC to drive the market, anyone who tells you otherwise is driveling absolute retarded nonsense, Valve is going to have to try something like a making a full home console when Sony drops out
Easy Anti-Cheat and BattleEye work fine on Linux. It's the kernel-level anti-cheat solutions that aren't compatible with Linux and for a good reason.

While it is true that building a PC is not the easiest thing yet, many gamers have friends that know the ins and outs of that and can help. Interest in PC gaming has gone up amongst the normies due to Steam.
One thing I can remember from day's of yore and also still to this day, is that their are people absolutely falling over each other to help you with the most tiny of problem. Even if you think a problem is stupid or miniscule, someone has spent 3 hours trying to figure it out and would be glad someone else doesn't suffer. That kind of doesn't happen on consoles as they are asic's that don't change. But the idea is there that it still is to this day an assembly line for help if you need it.

Normalfags usually want to play whatever is currently popular, which is more often than not, AAA slop. And AAA slop, as we have seen in the past few years, has not been very friendly, performance wise. Combined with a mid-range gpu pricing between 400 to 600 bucks, and it can easily get to 4 figs, unless they do a few budget conscious options like using your TV as a monitor, finding a good price on a used gpu, etc..

Which is why it pays to have friends that know about this stuff and can work with your budget. Every gamer friend group has at least one PC gamer that knows their stuff. 20 or even 10 years ago, there might have been arguments otherwise, today not so much.

That too. Nintendo will remain in power as long as they make consoles as opposed to worse PCs. Valve and Nintendo are the only ones with future.

Unfortunately for the AAA slop devs, normies are watching YTers bash said slop and are abandoning it. That and their expensive consoles are not playing the games all that well either.

Yeah, like Easy Anti-Cheat and BattleEye that ask for kernel level access. There are versions of it that don't ask for it but more often it seems games come with the version that asks for kernel level access nowadays.

Real question, what's stopping AMD from releasing the same APU for the PS6 as a PC chip and or a stronger version for Desktop?

You know what, I’ll take that. Cheap PCs still have to be streamlined to dumbfuck-levels of simplicity and sold in stores/not exclusively through Steam, and even though I’d say they’ve made leaps and bounds, they’re not quite there yet.

They have to reinvent their assembly line to account for the design and whatnot. A new architecture takes time and money to develop and produce. That's why you see new cpu/gpu come out in waves. Also why a lithography shortening is so big of a deal.

That's a good way to consolidate what Nintendo really does, they still offer their own bespoke entertainment ventures unlike the steam deck where it is a p.c but that's it. That makes sense why Gameboy is still played/emulated today.

kids or young people dont need anything more than a i74790 and a 1080-rx590. slap a ssd in there and you are ready to go
I've meet people still chugging around with Phenom II X6 and FX-8XXX builds with chinese RX580s (the ones with less SPs) and they're happy with their builds, those are far from optimal but manageable for their fornite, GTA5 and the meme game of the day. Some people don't need top of the line components to play happily on PC, and some people can't grasp that a kid with a 10+ years CPU can do just that.
