Sony hate thread

This will probably piss off alot of indie devs in general unless there is a system level way to just give the license to people for a limited amount of time like Free Play Days, even then that might piss off devs since it means if their game has a slow start people might get the wrong impression. That or devs start putting in even more frontloaded content.
most indies are below that price, and most of them being multiplat means they have demos already due to steam (if they're smart so they can be included in next fest).

japan indie scene isn't that big I think, or never makes it out of the country.

The platform holder that's currently the most favorable towards censorship taking it upon themselves to preserve their games sounds like a wolf in sheep's clothing, honestly.

Afaik a lot of 'em just never make it out of the country. If they're not translated and no YouTuber is talking about them, they'll fly completely under the radar in the English-speaking world.

Just 132 results for Randomaze Shooter, and it's been around for a few years

Indies should be fine but it's mainly the full-priced games that will more likely suffer of the Sony mandate. I threw the examples of games in Japan because the concept of MSRP doesn't exist at all there as japanese publishers are fit to decide themselves of the retail prices. To list among the recent and upcoming japanese releases:
eBaseball Powerful Pro Yakyuu 2022 (Konami - 8,250 yen for the standard edition)
Yomawari 3 (Nippon Ichi Software - 7,678 yen)
The Switch port of 13 Sentinels Aegis Rim (Atlus - 7,678 yen)
Shin Megami Tensei V (Atlus - 9,878 yen)
Xenoblade 3 (Nintendo - 8,778 yen)
Cotton Rock n Roll (Success - 6,380 yen)
Earth Defense Force 6 (D3 Publisher - 8,980 yen for the standard edition)
As you can see, games tend to be much more expensive in the country of the rising sun than in the USA or Europe.

Demos are great for the consumers but forcing them upon third-party devs, with conditions that they may not be able to fulfill, will just hurt them and the whole thing might not even result in a healthy trend of demos. This is obviously not mentioning that the mandate is only beneficial for the PS+ subscribers of the highest category.

Meanwhile, Steam and Nintendo both promote demos with special articles published and store space granted specifically to promote games with demos. Incentivizing devs to make demos with free publicity and marketing sounds a damn lot better than just holding them by the throat with ultimatums that may or not may be feasible or sensible for the games in question.

Hence why I suspect genres such as shmups and visual novels, and publishers like Nippon Ichi Software, to entirely skip the Playstation ecosystem for good and just stick to Switch and/or PC. There was a recent tweet of the owner of M2, a famous publishing house of shmup games, complaining that the recent Sony mandate would make their business more difficult

Japanese indie scene is mainly centered around the Comiket for advertisements. Games such as Asterbreed or Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin originally spawned from there.

In terms of console publishing, it's mainly the role of Playism and Mediascape (Play, Doujin!). To be more exact on the latter, "Play, Doujin!" was a indie game distribution platform that started as a collaboration between ZUN's Touhou Project and Sony Computer Entertainment Japan in 2014, in order to release 2hu fan-games for the PS4/Vita ecosystem. But in the recent few years, Mediascape is just focusing on releasing titles for the Switch and very rarely for the PS4.

The current fuckery with the tier upgrading was expected. People who wanted to stack the services did so last november when everything was $20. But as soon as Ryan announced the service and their business model you had people tweeting and showing their receipts while gloating. This is like watching someone get mad at a hot stove because it burned them.

PlayStation is getting the Psiko Shooting Collection volumes that the switch didn't get in the west, where the fuck have you been? PS5 already has a bunch of shmups in gneral. Not only that NIS is porting an enhanced edition of YS 8 and Falcom/Legend of Heroes and is tied down with Sony over a bunch of anime deals. NIS is most definitely publishing for Playstation 5 for that sole reason alone because Legend of Heroes is their biggest seller period.

Most top down or side scrolling shooters don't last over an hour, having the 2 hours demo time means you could beat most of the games twice over depending on skill. So if you're charging 40-60 bucks like most scrolling shooters it's subject to that.

what games
Fallen Legion Flames of Rebellion and just mentioned Ys 8 both of which were originally Vita games.

The PS5 version also comes with the sequel to Fallen Legion attached to it. Fallen Legion was a weird one because the Vita version had an exclusive protagonist(there was a console release but it was a limited release), it was the same game for the campaign and that was the only real change.

The PS5 version of Ys 8 has enhanced performance and I think it's coming with everything attached to it. It's similar to the PS4 port of Memories of Celceta where it's a better version of the PC port.

Falcom had games like Tokyo Xanadu have an enhanced console port after the Vita release as well so Ys wasn't the only game like that. But I think that's staying dead because nobody bought it when it came to consoles.

Never heard of the former, but Ys games are always welcome

It's a Ys game running on a PS5, there's no excuse for it to ever drop frames even at 4k120. Especially considering it's a game designed for running on a portable from 2012.

The former example is basically a multiplatform game

also for future reference to remember well, Nippon Ichi Software =/= NISA (the american branch & localization company very recently renamed itself as NIS just to make things more confusing though). Marissa Moira is still dumb enough to not make the proper difference of what I was talking about earlier.

The American branch is still the same company they even rebranded the logo so it would match. Especially since they operate on resources siphoned from the Japanese branch. This isn't like an unrelated company rented the NIS name, this is the american division of a japanese company who does regional publishing. They're under the same corporate umbrella at the end of the day.

Most shmups on the playstation store are around 8-15 bucks this has been the norm for awhile since Arcade Classic Archives has ported over a load of older shit from the likes of Neo Geo, Taito, Namco and others. Which would be under the 34 dollar price point to even offer a demo in the first place. Since it's Sony's own people who are doing the demos and not the developers themselves it's no lost resources. It's just a tier you the customer have to pay for a rental service. It's basically the same window of time as Steam's return window except with you not having bought the game in the first place so there's no need to issue a return.

9 did not run at 60 frames per second originally on the PS5 though. That had to be patched in.

Has anyone been getting PS5 ads lately? Because I have and I have to say their bundled-in games are truly one in a lifetime experiences that cannot be replicated anywhere else and make me wanna buy one ASAP.

Well, I can't believe we've finally convinced Marissa Moira to sell all of his PlayStation games and take up exercising and becoming a muscular chad
You are a false prophet.
