Is VR still trapped in "funny tech demos" land or is it starting to actually produce full games?
It was getting somewhere after Half-Life Alyx dropped, but then Facebook bought up every single company actually making games and locked everything to their ecosystem. Facebook also no longer sells any dedicated PC headsets, so all the games are literal phone games, and this has affected PC games as well because they add crossplay and have to downgrade everything to get it to run on Facebook stuff, look at Onward for an example.

How are we defining "full games" in terms of VR exactly?

Cause like, I've played plenty of fun shit on my Quest 2. But if we're expecting AAA goyslop than nah we aren't anywhere near there yet.

I wouldn't recommend anyone to buy a Quest 2 if they are on the fence, though. I have fun with it, but it's just a novelty for me still. I might play it for a week every 6 months or so.

Sadly its going to stay a novelty because the Quest is incapable of running anything bigger, and they already have to cut a bunch of corners to make it work. No developer is going to bother investing in making VR AAA games because the majority of the install base is Quest owners, so making a game for PC VR only is a bad investment, instead they choose to make 'cheaper' mobile VR games for the larger Quest install base. This is even impacting indie games, Boneworks was made for PCVR, and then the sequel Bonelab was made for Quest first, and as a result is a complete downgrade in essentially every way.

What annoys me the most about the Quest dominating the install base is that there are a bunch of projects to port older games to VR, but are either ONLY available as Quest apps, or are superior to the PC alternative. Things like the Half Life 1 VR port, the PC alternative is a hacked together barely functional mod of HL1, while the Quest version is a custom engine fork of Xash3d, and there is no PC version available. Same with Doom 3, the PC version is an out of date mod for BFG, the Quest version is an engine fork.

Also most Quest users are literal children, so any game with crossplay with the Quest is actual hell.

Maybe VR should remain a novelty. The novelty is fun. They actually feel likes GAMES. You say mobile games, but they feel like fun games from when I was a kid before Sony/Hideo Kojimas movie bullshit infested the medium.

Also I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but pretty much every multiplayer game is infested with children (and/or niggers) and cross play in general is hell. This isn't exclusive to the Quest 2.

Selling PS5's in Staples is kind of funny since I always thought it was a place where office work materials get sold. Unless you're trying to take apart a PS5 console to see what is under the hood, I just can not imagine spending $599 (plus taxes) for it.

60% plastic, 30% metal, 10% the important shit (i.e. the actual board itself).

they will cancel it, i believe!

One can only hope since there is precedent with the cancellation of the Sly Cooper movie that was in the works.

I guess the Ratchet and Clank movie flopped so hard that it scared Sony from trying to adapt any other of their franchises. As interesting as a Gravity Rush movie may sound I think it is too high concept to attract much of an mainstream audience. The way Hollywood is right now with rampant Afrocentrism it is better for Kat to remain a niche character faithful to the source material.

It's because Sony Pictures (usually from Columbia, Screen Gems or its animation studio) is into their IPs, like a lot. And this goes the same with other big name studios. By the time Uncharted's movie came out last year, Sony became more motivated for adapting their games as feature films.

the problem is big part of VR is the experience, and for that you need a lot of (expensive) HD assets. indies can get away with pixelgames or low poly on a flat screen, and even some VR games do it, but can you imagine a resident evil in the style of the first flashback or alone in the dark? and even if it won't entice the vast majority of niggercattle being raised on sony movie goyslop.

I hear the porn is good, for whatever that's worth.
it is (or so I've heard...)

ironically most of that won't be on the ps5, devaluing it even further. ps4 was already shitshow, ps5 doesn't even have a browser, and not sure how capable it's vr movie player will be, if it even has one.

but can you imagine a resident evil in the style of the first flashback or alone in the dark?
No, but I can actually play Resident Evil 4 on a quest and it's fine. Really fun too, in fact. More fun than the remake IMO (but I've only played the remake demo for what it is worth)

Like, I don't know exactly if that's "HD" or not but these games certainly don't need to be ultra realistic.

You don't need high quality assets. The 3d depth sells it more than texture quality. I think Valve talked about it in one of their GDC talks for VR. Your brain quickly adapts to what it sees and you stop seeing low quality textures or low poly objects, its like the floating hands in Half Life Alyx. To someone viewing from a flat screen it looks bad, but for someone playing the game they don't even see it.

The summer games fest is tomorrow, I've heard about some of the leaks Xbox has but I also head Sony had stuff to show too, which if that's true, why the fuck not show that shit off in their own presentation?! Are they that cucked that they're giving their reveals to someone else too.

heard there was gonna some Spyro and Crash announcements (maybe more remakes of less popular, or new shit!)

Hollow Knight: Silksong could pop-up here not holding my breathe for it.

I would like pizza tower to get a physical edition idk.

What other games would guys like seeing brought back?
What games would like nu-developers to never touch and stay the fuck away?

I'm going to assume Sony is just going to show the same shit they showed at their own presentation at Gamesfest tbqh. I think that's what happened last year and the only "exclusive" they had was The Last of Us Remake?

But games I'd like to see brought back? I mean if we're going pie in the sky I'll say Syphon Filter or SOCOM.

I definitely don't want to see Bloodborne, just so I can see people cope and seethe some more.

I just thought up something retarded that might happen...

What if Sony put Rift Apart on steam just to announce a new Rachet & Clank at the Fest.

I know this is wishful thinking considering they already had their event but I'm underestimating how stupid Sony can be or I just have my wishing hat on.

:optimistic:

I wouldn't expect to see any 1st party stuff at all. MS has their own Not-E3 in a few days, and if Sony had anything to show they would've done it during their thing a couple weeks ago instead of stuffing it with filler.

The only thing of note I do expect is some gameplay (more likely story trailer) of Death Stranding 2, because Keighley and Kojima need an excuse to buttfuck each other backstage.

I fully expect it to be called something else that abbreviates to DS2 because of 'Geinus Kojima's Masterful Subversion'. I don't think they have actually called it Death Stranding 2 yet. This is coming from someone who very much enjoyed Death Stranding.

I dig my PS5. Was a big Xbox fan back when Bungie was still making halo games. Not much stuff has been Xbox exclusive in the last decade that I found appealing. I'll get around to buying the new Xbox eventually though, nothing exclusive to it sparks my interest atm, maybe starfield if that doesn't end up being the dumpster fire I think it might end up being.

Just buy all the consoles unless you're a poorfag. Being a console war nerd was something I realized was cringe all the way back in highschool, when I got my first job and started buying my own systems myself.
