None of this should shock me anymore, but I'm actually baffled at how terrible of a product the playstation portal is. I legitimately cannot think of a market for it other than the most retarded of playstation fanboys, and literally scamming grandmas out buying their grandchildren christmas presents.

Portal wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing if you were deep into the playstation ecosystem and wanted a wiiU gamepad like accessory to play your games. The problem is that playstation barely has an ecosystem and the ps5 has NO GAMES so even if you have it you can't do shit with it. I can't wait for this piece of shit to come bundled together with every ps5 2 years from now on due to sony wanting to clear stock.

But who would want to play their playstation on a tablet vs a TV? The only answer is kids if the parents are watching TV, which is how people lived in the 90s, when there was only one TV. Now you can pick up a suprisingly decent 4k, 43" set for £250.

Sony have gone mad.

The issue is that it fails as even a wiiu style accessory due to the fact it's limited to wifi connection. The ps5's already bad at times input lag combined with additional latency with ui scaled for MUH 4K ULTRA HD tvs on an 8 inch screen just does not sound like a particularly good offering, for all the wiiu's flaws, at least the damn gamepad worked as intended.

It seems to me like this is some sort of experiment in how much the fans will pay for a device that does practically nothing. A smart phone can do all of this, for a similar price point.

It's all an experiment in how much the fanboys will pay for an anticonsumer device that is just a tablet that does less. I kind of don't judge the total fanboys, their delusional manchildren. The people I've really come to dislike are the people in the comments saying "yeah this does nothing, is anti-consumer and can be replaced with a phone. But $200 is reasonable, fuck it day one buy!".

Its price and supposedly that you need to be near the PS5 like Wii U kills what little appeal it could have for sane people.

The Wii U gamepad used a custom chip for super low latency streaming, and came included with the console (it was also like half the price of the console, but the entire thing was 300 bucks anyway). This costs more and doesn't even use a custom streaming chip, just does it over wifi. Anyone who is going to buy this is retarded.

Wow, I didn't know they did that lol. I remember seeing them for $20 a pop at one point, and I still regret not scooping them up, I should've known better. They go for a lot now, or did a few years or so back anyway (probably even more now if anything...).
I get the appeal of having a little fancy microconsole that can play all sorts of stuff on your TV, but I never really used mine much. It uses the Vita's own UI with all the little bubbles, with nothing scaled down or spread out, so all of the icons look big and goofy. It's also awkward to navigate with a controller, with how they're staggered and all. It's a nice UI for a touchscreen, weird without.

I guess I didn't notice, but I think you're right, there is no camera on it, huh? Switch doesn't either IIRC. Since 3DS and Vita both had cameras, in my head I think of it as a standard feature now, but I guess not.
Yeah, you see a handheld thing with a touchscreen and expect there to be a camera and microphone of some sort, but nope. I guess it's to be expected in a world where even tablets have back cameras, as cumbersome as they are.

The Deck has a microphone actually.

Oh, I thought those little holes were for the screen assembly

Oh yeah, it was a neat idea, but they should've just made a dockable Vita. The PSP was already doing something similar I believe, but I never used that functionality and it seems like it was not as elegantly done as the Switch.

But yeah, PSTV was neat. A friend of mine had one, and we'd play Killzone Mercenary a lot. That was one of the only FPS I can ever say I was okay at, maybe even kinda good.

What's with Sony's terrible naming conventions after PSP anyway? Vita? TV? Portal? I'm surprised they didn't fuck with the mainline PS consoles or even the PSVR 2 and call them something retarded too.

Oh, no microphones too? Vita really was ahead of its time. 99% of voice chat I did was on Vita, I couldn't be bothered to do it on consoles because I don't like wearing microphones.

I didn't know either. I had to look up if Switch did, and it doesn't.

I guess it doesn't matter since I don't really play online anymore anyway, but on principle I don't think features should be removed. Nintendo does that a lot, especially in software (Miiverse, tracking your gameplay, etc).

Not nearly. PSP had both composite and component cables. If you only had the composite, you couldn't play your PSP games on your TV, but you could watch videos and play specifically PS1 games, for some reason. The component cables did let you play PSP games, but they were presented in a little box in the middle of your TV, so you couldn't have them in fullscreen unless your TV could zoom in. You also couldn't use external controllers.

PSP go did have a cradle dock that let you use it like a Switch, even including support for syncing a PS3 controller, though you needed a full PS3 to actually connect it, because Sony sucks. The dock was overpriced and kind of hard to come by, which added insult to injury because the PSP go was already crazy overpriced at $250 and had fewer features than the $170 normal PSP.

Internally, the PSVita's name is PSP2, lol. If yours is hacked, you'll see it in the file trees. They should have stuck with that name. Nobody on the planet would have a problem with it. At least they didn't call PS4 "Orbis".

Huh, I never know about the dock. Look how close Sony was, I bet they were kicking themselves not refining that functionality going forward after seeing Nintendo do so well. Or maybe they're too stupid to even notice, which Portal suggests.

That's interesting, mine is hacked but I never payed attention to file names and stuff closely. I wonder what possessed them to change it...

Too bad they didn't call PS4 Orbis too, maybe they'd be like Sega now lol.
