Also the modern treatment of Spiderman annoys me because Peter Parker had a great character development. He used to be a nerd who dreamed of landing a babe (like all boys) but completely lacked the character of presence to pull it off. After obviously getting bitten off by that radioactive spider and gaining super-powers, he almost went off the deep end until his uncle died, who told Peter in his dying breath "With great power comes great responsibility" thus putting a limiter on his skills.
I remember speaking in the thread about worlds more interesting than displayed thread about Spider-Man, but I think it applies here. Spider-Man lost a lot of his uniqueness through comic events and being strung into a giga-verse of other heroes. The whole neighborhood Spider-Man concept doesn’t work when you have symbiote alien invasions every week, clones and now a multiverse with a council of Spider-Men. This is without going into how Avengers or X-Men storylines collide with Spider-Man to create even bigger messes. The world building is too massive to be about a guy who gets powers and betters himself and his community.

The push to never have Spider-Man evolve past college is another blow. We cannot see Peter and MJ have a stable relationship and kids, a hurdle even Superman was able to beat. Instead, Spider-Man has Batman style misery porn but on a character who actually betters himself.

It seems Marvel editorial wants to be rid of Peter probably to avoid paying royalties. Now we have all these new Spiders, but the general world of Spider-Man is too bare to make them successful. Spider-Man never had an interesting city like Batman or Superman, nor that great a villain lineup outside of Raimi’s films. The focus was strictly on Peter and how his relationships to characters like Gwen, MJ and Harry are affected by Spider-Man.

Didn't Aunt May set him up on his date with MJ?
Yes, she was the neighbor girl.

The graphics in Spider-Man 2 are hideous. I can't believe that.
they look worse than 2015 Arkham Knight. A lot of games do, but I think that just highlights how devolving graphics are.

Wow, this game is bad. From what I hear most members of the writing team were women and the game definitely feels like it. This game really does feel like some girl on Tumblr fanfic about Spider-Man. I was thinking about getting the game as, despite its faults, I did enjoy the first. However, seeing the quality of the writing and the obnoxious political commentary I think I'll just get Super Mario Bros. Wonder instead. At least my little cousins who I watch who all love and adore Mario will get some fun and enjoyment out of it. Plus at least Princess Peach and Daisy don't look like androgynous nightmare fuel like MJ.

“Did I just do that? I did not just do that. I just shot web from my wrist. I just freaking shot web from my wrist! Yeah, okay, that is something I do now.”

I'm genuinely curious why anyone who isn't woke would even think they'd like this game. One look at reviews or discussion would paint a pretty grim picture.
I didn't read any spoilers. I really liked the last one, despite its faults, and I even thought the writing had its highlights. Even the Miles Morales game I thought, at the time, wasn't that badly pozzed, even though I didn't like it very much. But this is a league of its own.

Honestly, so far from what I've played, Peter is so fucking obnoxious that I legitimately prefer being Miles. That's probably all you need to know about how badly they fucked up the writing.

I think I hate everything about Spider Man 2's story. From what they did to Parker, Miles' bitch bland ass, to Mary Jaws Watson, to Harry and Venom. Fuck, this is just another Soyny experience.

American media needs to be automatically discarded, the same with japanese funded projects with western devs involved

This is the complete inverse of soft power. American media makes me hate America more and more every day. Good Job Spidey!

I’m most of the way through Spider-Man 2, and the Venom part is absolute kino. The best part of the game. You get to kill everyone, and there’s even a spine breaking animation. Unfortunately it’s the only good part of the game.

70 dollars well spent

I think I'll just stick to Prototype

Seriously, though, is there anything worthwhile added to the free roaming? Or is it the exact same as the last game and all theyv'e added is a shitty story and a Venom scene?

Can we stop calling it "Spider-Man 2" without a qualifier of some kind? It's ruining the name of the real Spider-Man 2.

Going back to Arkham Knight, the game actually still looks gorgeous. The textures are low-res now, but aside from that it's a very good-looking game.

Joining the Avengers and getting into big events was part of Peter's character growth. It was actually going pretty well until the mess that was Civil War happened. Remember that Peter married MJ back in 1987, and they were happily married until Straczynski and Quesada retconned the marriage in 2008.
Spider-Man should have continued with Peter and Mary Jane having kids, with Peter growing into a full-fledged Avenger in the meantime, working with Tony Stark. There was some serious character growth up until Civil War and One More Day.

Multiple Spider-Men was a mistake, but mostly because of the mess of a way it was done. Adding a few extra Spider-Men and letting the main Peter Parker be their leader would be another avenue for character growth. Heck, if Miles Morales weren't such introduced in such a messy way, they could have made him a sidekick for Spider-Man, letting Peter grow further as a hero. You're right that his villain lineup isn't the best, and the Raimi films did use the best of the bunch, but there were some really good villains that don't always get the focus they deserve, like the Lizard, who alternates between villain and friend (Dr. Connors)

You don't seem very familiar with the Spiderman franchise naming traditions.
Only the Raimi trilogy used that naming format before; everything else had some kind of qualifier or other name, aside from Neversoft's first Spider-Man game on PS1/N64.

The new fucking Spider-Man game begins with thugs robbing a "gun club" in central Manhattan, to which Peter quips over and over again in support of gun control. That's actually in this fucking game. Because obviously in this fucking world of supervillain terrorists, constant backalley rapes, and endless bank robberies, the only people who should have guns is the vigilante superhero. It's perfectly okay for Spider-Man to be able to defend himself with lethal force, but you? No, you cannot. No guns for you, grannie. GET RAPED.

Oh, also, we have to pretend that Miles couldn't instantly get into any college he applied to as a (supposedly) high-IQ black man. Literally everyone knows that he could be a drooling mongoloid and go wherever he wanted, but we can't say that, so we have to make a big deal of his college application process!

Video game writers are a lower form of life than journoscum. I can't wait to get to the part where MJ complains that she can't abort her spider-baby, since Roe v. Wade was overturned.

I eyerolled when I heard the “guns bad” line in Spider-Man 2. Jesus Christ the dialogue is painful.

What I wonder, is given the "GuNs BaD" dialog, why didn't they make this game based on a location where guns are actually banned, i.e. Canada?

Because then there would be no bAd gUyS with guns to point to and say, “THIS is why guns are BAD!”
