Sony hate thread

Aside from the bar of 'good graphics' getting higher and higher as the years go by, a big reason for there being 'no games' on PS5 is because the barrier to entry of game development has never been lower. If someone wants to make a game, team or no team, all they need is a PC with the right software and time to make it. Then they can just submit it to Steam or wherever for a price they think is fair and then just let it get played. That wasn't an option until the mid-2000s and PC gaming only started gaining momentum in the mid-2010s, which is right around when the console game selection started to get a little light.

Combining that with the rise of mobile phone gaming at around the same time, the demand and desire to make games for consoles dwindled. Even though the job market for gaming got really competitive after 2000, studios weren't held to making things for consoles unless they were multi-platform. If the only option for making a game was to go work at a big studio subsidiary then there would be a HELL of a lot more of them getting made. Faster, too.
AAA game developers have this brain tumor on them that causes them to think we will not buy a game unless we can see every single nosehair rendered perfectly and blow the entire GDP of Ghana on graphics alone, making every game be a make or break "safe" product where no risks with the mechanics are being taken and if it fails to make all money in the world, the studio closes. Not to mention how it slows down releashes. You might say that this gives them time to iron out bugs but no, it is purely for grahics. That is why you do not have any games on PS5. Everything has slowed to a crawl and AA games are slowly becoming extinct as they are not as "visually impressive" as AAA and they cannot show off the graphic capabilities and have to live or die on gameplay and story alone.

Sony issues apology for Neil Druckman AI interview

In re-reviewing our recent interview with Naughty Dog's Neil Druckmann, we have found several significant errors and inaccuracies that don't represent his perspective and values (including topics such as animation, writing, technology, AI, and future projects). We apologize to Neil for misrepresenting his words and for any negative impact this interview might have caused him and his team. In coordination with Naughty Dog and SIE, we have removed the interview.

The interview is no longer available :story:

It is a product/consequence of the period between late 6 - early 8th gen. That timeframe trained most companies to bank on trends and graphics as much of the content outside the sphere didn't do to well.

Sony is a pretty good example as much of their content tanked the later into the 7th gen/ early 8th gen one got.
  • Ratchet & Clank, dead past CIT.
  • Twisted Metal - 2012 released to decent at best sales
  • PlayStation All-Stars - bomb
  • God of War - Did a lot worse then previous entries post 3
  • Sly 4 - bomb
  • Little Big Planet - Pretty much died at the 3rd entry
  • Gravity Rush - bomb x2
  • Knack - bomb x2
The 6th-8th gens are an odd duck as it was where "normies" entered the industry at a high rate and many gamers were growing up and now convinced they needed to throw away the games of the past. Sony became a shell of its former self as the types of games that defined the PS2 were quickly going out of style.

The issue now is that the 6-8th gen was an unsustainable fad, with too many trying to get in on that gritty online multiplayer shooter, GTA open-world, or some form of Assassins Creed/Arkham. Nintendo, for all their problems, willingly took the heaps of shit from gamers during that timeframe and stayed on course. This allowed them to build up a diverse ecosystem and client base. Meanwhile, Sony tossed everything into the fire to appeal to the normie Activision/Ubisoft demographic and some arthouse types post-PS3. While Nintendo flourishes and has some good relations with many of the big boys of the PS2 era, along with the growing indie scene, Sony is stuck with an audience that never cared for gaming.

Nintendo did not use a magic formula, they just kept the costs low. Every game has a budget that allows them to have a pretty artstyle and and cool visuals without having to be ultra realistic as that would give diminishing return. Not to mention that more realistic graphics = more development time and/or less quality and features ala Ubisoft/EA/Activision. Less realistic graphics mean greater variety in artstyle/visuals and less development time spent on models and more on gameplay. That way they can churn out games at a faster rate and be more risky on the game mechanics and story as not as much time and money is at play unlike with most AAA games that take half a decade and several fortunes to make. Nintendo, on the Switch, has 4 Pokemon games (Sword/Shield, BD/SP, PLA, S/V), 3 Xenoblade Chronicles (XC1R, 2, 3), 2 Splatoon and several Mario and Zelda including Remakes and Remasters. While not all of those were bangers, many of them were and had tons of new features. All because the amount of time and money needed to make them was kept low. Sony and Microsoft need to follow that example for this generation has been the most pointless one.

If I was being REALLY optimistic, I’d say this would have RE9 or FF9 remake. Key word is OR, just one of those. And that would be me being very VERY optimistic. The reality is, it’ll be shit with nothing but goyslop.

It is a little bit of both. Nintendo keeping costs low is a major factor, but a lot of the stuff they did during the Wii-Wii U ended up paying off with the Switch.

Nintendo took a lot of risks during the Wii and DS generation, allowing them to build up a wider audience in comparison to everyone else. There is a very good reason why Nintendo is the biggest one to figure out how to break into the girl gamer market outside of smart phones. Those years of building up Animal Crossing and games like Style Savvy paid off huge in 2020, and really, throughout most of the Switch.

Them also playing to kids meant they had a stronger base as kids grew up with their systems and would go back when hitting their 20s. Sony could have capitalized on nostalgia given how massive the PS2 was, but instead eroded their entire identity. Them also making nothing but film titles aimed at adults screwed them from really building up a current young base.

Finally, Nintendo was one of the few to really embrace retro at the time. Smash practically revived a good chunk of series, with Mega Man being the poster-child of such. Nintendo built themselves as the eco-system most suited for old-gamers, hence why indies do so well and companies like Atlus have started moving away from Sony and onto Nintendo. To build off this, weeb games also were given more of a push by Nintendo, stealing a big chunk of the former Sony fandom.

In comparison, Sony and Microsoft jumped to reap the rewards of 7-8th gen, but now have nothing. Both played to the west and normies, which ended up abandoning them compared to the large, loyal, audiences Nintendo has been able to gain from retro gamers, weebs, and other niches.

A bunch of nothing and woke shit incoming, this will be a fun train wreck to watch, especially the Soyny fanboy coping & shilling which will ensue.

I doubt FF9 is going to be announced anytime soon because it would be long off. If it is announced it's going to be a TES6 situation.

Resident Evil is a safe bet, maybe not RE9 but a remake/remaster or spin-off.

Everything said in that interview is completely in line with Druckmann's previous words and actions, he got backlash and now it's all the fault of some nameless faceless nobodies, very convenient
His attempt at damage control on twitter was to post one full length reply, which didnt show anything other than his rambling about other stuff like fallout being edited out for brevity

I imagine re9 should be announced due to the usual dev cycle, unless dusk golem was actually right for once. I just want SOMETHING other than the usual goyslop, so that way I can actually look forward to a game.

I lump Capcom into that slop now anyway, they'll butcher Code Veronica in particular.

word through the grapevine is that Code: Veronica and RE Zero are next on the remake list.

seconded, seeing as how potraying crossdressers as mentally ill psychopaths is verboten in our current Clown World hellscape.
RE0 is one of my favorites, so it'll suck seeing Rebecca go from cute and girly to an ugly girlboss.

As for CV, even portraying crossdressers as anything but stunning & brave trans women seems to basically be off the table, at least if Paper Mario is anything to go by.
