When I made the jump to PC gaming, I just bought a regular stock PC and gradually upgraded "Ship of Theseus" style to space out the costs over time. I suspect some of the most diehard console warriors either don't have a stock PC or have some shitty laptop that they got for going to college and can't upgrade it.
The wrinkle with that claim is back when CPUs were weak enough that this made a detectable difference in performance, those CPUs were also responsible for handling storage I/O instead of having it offloaded to a dedicated controller. This means even though it may have taken more cycles to decode MP3 than just playing back WAV/AIFF, you could easily regain those cycles by not spending so much time executing disc/flash read calls in the first place. Not to mention system memory is much faster than your storage media and isn't separated by a device data bus.
I'm still rocking my 1990s issue beige case. Had to make a few internal mods to fill it full of fans but it runs plenty cool.

PS2 was a great system in spite of sony, not because of them. Also, the vast majority of their ps2 output was 3rd party, and they've all but completely stopped paying off japanese devs. With the absolute pennies sony is willing to front, only the most enslaved devs like squeenix or harada still bite, and they'd probably be willing to pay sony to be exclusive.
I hate my current box, its full of shitty LEDs and blue lights that I need to turn off or cover up every time I turn the computer on. And the worst part? They'll just randomly turn themselves back on on rare occasion and wake me up as my computer suddenly turns into a second sun.
They released MAU by console and PS5 was way ahead, wasn't it? Not that it even matters for company health, fortnite babbies don't buy anything outside of Fortnite skins.
The one I saw was a universal "PS users". Like you say, MAU is a pointless metric started by MS and adopted by Sony, like so many cases.
Maybe you're right, only shifting 26~ million consoles from now until 2026/2027 does sound too few. The Switch 2 could be the asteroid strike and careful what you wish for with the nuclear war...
If PS6 is 4 years out, which seems reasonable enough of a guess to me, then it only needs half a million sales per quarter to beat the PS3. I really do mean a literal asteroid, Switch 2 isn't going to do it.
You're probably right. I thought the PS4pro was only on the market for two years before the ps5, but it was four years.
I highly doubt the PS6 is coming out anytime before 2030. 4 years isn't even enough time to work on a launch title nowadays. Hell, I'm sure the PS4 will still be kick around generating MTX rev from COD and FN.
What did the PS5 have for launch titles again? Wasn't it just the Demon's Souls remake and the PS5 ports of PS4 Spider-Man and Miles Morales? The PS6 launch titles are probably just going to be a port of TLOU2 and Spider-man 2 as the launch titles. If we're lucky, Bend is going to pop out Days Gone 2.
Well, if you are going to discount dual releases then Switch launched with Arms, 1-2 Switch and Snipperclips. And it might beat PS2 with that. I think its really up in the air whether launch title exclusivity really matters compared to having a really good game to build marketing around. Mario 64, Halo, Wii Sports, BotW, they all single-handedly sold their system despite the fact that two of the four weren't even exclusive. Though if I have to guess, Spiderman 3 seems like it might slot into PS6's launch line-up. Or perhaps a Wolverine DLC/side game like Miles.
May I remind people that because of low Wii U sales, any dual release might as well as be a Switch exclusive? It also had a lot of quick-and-easy to make games, many of which were exclusive. It also became the hub for indies while being portable. And it is cheaper too. Not to mention that there are good AAA games that managed to be ported into the system (with a graphical downgrade but still). There was not one thing that made the Switch successful, it was many things. Many might feel the need to say that for the PS6 to be successful this and that might need to happen but I disagree. Many things need to happen for a console to be successful. And the industry as a whole is moving away from them.
Was Ghost of Tsushima a launch title?
I don't think so. IIRC it came out on the PS4 almost a year prior to the PS5 version and I think the PS5 was already out.
