Sony hate thread

Concord 2, I mean Marathon, delayed indefinitely. Definitely not dead though, please don't panic, investors, we'll just slowly stop mentioning it until you hopefully forget about it.
Thinking a little deeper on it, I'm 97% confident I've figured out exactly what's going on. Given the absolute mountain of cancelled live service slops at sony, if they had ANY idea of when it might be, they would 100% have said so here to try and calm fears. Even if all they could say was "we're shooting for a 2026 release, we'll have a better idea on the exact date later this year", they would have. But, they also seem confident that they will be able to provide a new date this fall. Now, what would fit current circumstances at the company that would also lead to them being unable to pin down even a year right now, but able to give an exact date within 4-5 months?

Well, an EXTENSIVE audit being conducted by sony due to the highly publicized plagiarism discoveries would fit the bill. They're going to go through every single pixel of this trash with the finest toothed comb you've ever seen, and figure out if there's enough left to even try to salvage this. If this audit doesn't go how bungie hopes, I expect that fall update to be the official cancellation.

Every time people fret over corporate control of their games, I just look over at the four terabyte hard drive on my desk full of cracked installers or ROMs for thousands of games. It's cheaper, more convenient, and more flexible for me to play games now than ever before while the mindless consoomers are getting their wallets gang-raped in EXACTLY the ways we warned them about for 20 years.
Valve called piracy a service problem. If you go beyond push button play game that’s just screaming pirate this.

Holy fuck what a shit show, they recommitted and then killed it in a matter of days
I had a theory that there was another civil war happening in Sony and I'm convinced of it now. Hulst is desperately trying to prop up these shit games he supported and someone is finally sick of this shit

Let the normies' wallets get raped, repeatedly. They've had 20 years to stop but refuse to because they're retarded.
When a game launches with Denuvo and makes performance worse, I laugh inside. The corporations want them to pay money for worse performance, when I get it for free with the best performance.

For an extra laugh:

Sony have spun off 80% of the financial arm of their business.

Playstation had a 25 billion dollar revenue with 3 billion in profit last year
Sony financial services had 89 billion dollar net income.

Sony financial have had a long argument with Playstation, ever since the PS1 because they believe it tarnishes the overall Sony brand. They let it fly when it was raking in cash and positive news and goodwill for the company. That they've spun off their financial services and untethered it from Sony proper, means that the Japs have finally had enough. They're letting Playstation - which for all intents and purposes is now American, suffer their own fate without suckling on the Japanese teet.

This would the equivalent of Microsoft cutting ties with the Xbox department.

Sounds like a load of old bollocks. "only kids asking mommy and daddy buy MK". Hmm, 120 million kids bought Switch vs 60 million adults buying a PS5. I reckon the kids are alright.

Having Marathon's entire visual identity being wholesale stolen just opened the studio to being sued for damages and for the potential audience's perception of the project to be unanimously negative, Marathon is a PR disaster for Sony and more than justifiable ammo to use against Hulst because this is happening under his watch right after Concord. I really hope there is indeed a power struggle within Sony to oust everyone that has been involved in this litany of failures.

I find it funny, the one GAAS hit they have had Helldivers 2, is also the one they didn't buy the dev for.

Sony wasn't wrong for trying their hand at GAAS games. Too big of market to not when you are the size of Sony, but the way they went about it was retard.

1. Moves studio known to make single player hits into wasting time on GAAS games, creating a worse lack of games this gen then otherwise would have been. Most of these seem canceled, wasting years of devs time and seems unlikely to repurpose assets from those games for something else.

2. You buy most of these studios before the game has even been shown to the public. Had they waited for the public showing of Concord before buying the studio, they could have seen how bad of idea from that alone it was.

3. Bought Bungie, when isn't even working on a follow up it now dying GAAS hit of the past Destiny 2. So if they ever do get around to making Destiny 3, the ip will be long past anyone caring.

4, Had 12 GAAS games in the work at one point. Even if all 12 had the chance of being hits, that is a lot of unneeded self cannibalisation.

And it's success is only due to 50-60% of the player base been on Steam. Even after Sony tried region locking them with a mandatory PSN account.
Memba when the sony ponys said Sony would force PSN on all PC games?

Stellar Blade reportedly in development for Switch 2.

I'm guessing Stellar Blade 2 is going to pull a Beyonetta.
Probably not, Bayo 2 happened because platinum didn't have the money to develop a sequel, and shopped around for a publisher to fund it, including offering both microsoft and sony FIRST in exchange for exclusivity, only to be told to fuck off, before being surprised when nintendo, their last resort, said "Sure thing, guys!" and handed them a blank check. They have more than enough money to self-fund a sequel, and probably no shortage of publishers who would fund it.

My analogy sucks then. I just meant SB devs would swap over to Nintendo instead of Sony/MS. I bet it sells better on Switch than PS5.

Not gonna happen, Shift Up has "Fuck You!" money thanks to their gatcha game Nikke: Goddess of Victory. Not too long ago it was mentioned the owner of the company broke into the Top 50 richest persons in all of South Korea. Stellar Blade is their first AAA title and it is their own IP, after its massive success there is no reason to believe they'll relinquish the rights of it to anyone else.

This would be a much better purchase than Bungie, and for gods sake Sony, please save Mortal Kombat from WB..

Sony considering a purchase of Warner Bros. Discovery’s assets (streaming, studios/IPs and gaming).

Sources have told SEScoops that Sony is considering a purchase of the newly announced WBD Streaming and Studios company, which is expected to complete its separation from WBD Global Networks by mid-2026. Sony is interested in acquiring WBD’s HBO MAX streaming service, IPs and its gaming assets.

Game studios owned by WB Games:

Avalanche Software (Hogwarts Legacy)
NetherRealm (Mortal Kombat, Injustice)
Rocksteady (Batman Arkham series, Suicide Squad)
TT Games (Lego games - 4 Studios)
WB Games Montréal (Batman Arkham Origins, Gotham Knights)
WB Games Boston (Lord Of The Rings Online)

Oh that's going to bar so many budget rigs from even running the game even if you wanted to pirate it. The budget beloved R5 5600X has 6 cores and the PS5 and Xbox consoles only have 8, so this game is gonna drag super-duper hard because of CPU bottlenecks by two fucking DRM measures..

I'm hoping the pirate cracks remove all of the DRM shit. I think they usually remove denuvo, right?

Usually It's Denuvo and whatever common DRM measures put in place with pirate cracks, but this "Symbiote" DRM measure is probably some bullshit cooked up by Randy Pitchford's slave labor force that will ethier get cracked (or more likely exploited because it's kernel-level) really easily or be troublesome if it does more than what Denuvo normally does
