Oh good, another Western developed game with a completely unremarkable female (?) character design wearing the most Millennial clothes imaginable with zero sex appeal or an athletic build.

This anorexic bitch looks like it is going to topple over with a mild breeze but she is going to melee and gun fight her way out of yet another of Ken Levine's post-collapse Utopian settings. Sure thing buddy.

The first Bioshock was basically lighting in a bottle that can't be replicated.

Every subsequent attempt to do so has been cringe and literally gay.

Bioshock was just dumbed down SS2 for console peasants. Bioshock 2 replicated it rather well, even tho nobody asked for a sequel, and so did Prey(2017). Bioshock Infinite, that on the other hand was a mess and so will be Judas. Should have just gave the game to Arkane, at least they would make it interesting even if gameplay would just be a derivative of Dishonored.

Ah yes, Ken Levine's latest agitprop. I bet he has learned nothing from Bioshock Infinite.

Imagine trusting Arkane to make a good game after Raphael Colantonio left.

Something i've wondered is how does Sony get away with blatantly lying about the PS5's numbers and nobody has ever thought about auditing the division and finding the actual numbers? Nobody I know owns a PS5, and i'm sure its the same case for a lot of you here.

I only know two people who have one.
One bought it just for FF16 and FF7 Rebirth. He beat FF16 and it was "just okay" while he dropped FF7R on Costa del Sol due to all the minigame bloat it has. It has been collecting dust ever since.
The other one bought it as his PS4 replacement and only uses it for FIFA trash and racing games that aren't GT7.

Investors won't care enough to force the issue until the line starts going down too fast. Nobody else can really provoke any kind of audit with any teeth. If you could somehow convince the SEC to dig into the American division (which runs PS5), they could probably uncover the truth, but good luck with that. These days they're more suspicious of companies that don't cook the books.

The numbers aren't fudged exactly. They sell the console to stores, where the product sits on shelves until sold to a customer, and Sony class that as a sale.
Microsoft started that tactic with the xbone to try and keep parity with the PS4.

The Ps4 had a sell through (to customers) ratio of 1:0.98 at it's peak. Meaning pretty much every PS4 made was already sold.

When you see comparison of PS4 vs Ps5 "launch aligned" (look out for that phrase because it signifies that the person posting the information is a paid-for Sony account) Sony play silly fuckers with the numbers.

We believe Sony has sold 80 million PS5's vs PS4's 85 million in the same time period. In reality, and Sony admit this on their own investors reports, they've sold 60 million to customers and 20 million to warehouses, meaning the PS5 has sold much, much less than the PS4.

Sony fans will call you a liar for pointing out facts given by Sony themselves and hand-wave it away by saying "the ps5 costs more and the PS4 library was bigger" kind of brushing past that, yeah, the PS5 is a worse value proposition, hence lower sales. They can't understand that though.

I hope there's a thread for the PS3's upcoming 20th birthday. I never had one myself, but that console always stood out to me from its flagship exclusives and sleek, fat design.

Motorstorm, Heavenly Sword, R&C Future: Tools of Destruction, Metal Gear Solid 4 and oddly enough, Madden NFL 09.
PS3 was a miserable experience the first few years. Towards the end it got better but even then, the hardware was woefully underpowered for most of the games on the system.

By the time devs caught up to the hardware, even commodity PCs with entry-level GPUs were smoking it (circa 2008-2009). The PowerPC cores of the Cell didn't support out-or-order execution and had tons of random issues with bottlenecks. To put into perspective how bad the hardware was - the PS4's CPU was a slightly underclocked variant of the widely-panned AMD FX CPUs of the era and it was considered groundbreakingly powerful compared to what devs had been dealing with on the PS3.

It was also just a weird time because the HD era kinda nuked Japan's game dev sector for a few years and so the big JP games that should have been pushing the console just weren't showing up.

Massive reliability problems too. Not as bad as Xbox 360 but still I think a massive chunk of pre-slim PS3s have just died.

If Microsoft hadn't independently decided to shoot themselves in the foot and then the kidney and then the head in the latter years of the 360, the gen would have been a Total Microsoft Victory.

It was an easily preventable mistake too. Their entire dev team told them that shoving all those components into a small box with little breathing room was going to fry the thing but no one from top listened.

Fast Forward to now and nothing's changed. Top still doesn't give a shit about what their workers have to say because they are so fucking desperate to reach that bottom line.

“this overpriced console with no games is great when you pretend it’s not overpriced and has games”

Why are Sonyggers like this?

Oh I'm not even talking about the RRoD issue. That was preventable, but Microsoft had the money and the PR chops to handle it (and most people didn't seem to hate MS for it once they started doing carte blance replacements). Plus the graphics hardware they shipped in the 360 was legitimately next generation compared to the PS3 (which had a pretty lousy GPU you were expected to make up for with the SPEs if you were some kind of elder lich that understood how to tard wrangle them), so they can be forgiven for some teething problems during initial production.

I'm talking about the late-era 360 where they stopped making games, went all in on kinect, and then rode that train to nowhere off the cliff with the Xbox One. If they'd just kept the cadence of good first-party games and laid off the "entertainment appliance of the cloud future" drugs, then they probably would have unambiguously won the gen.

Soyny has always played games with their numbers since the original PlayStation. I don’t think anything here is legally actionable since Soyny themselves admits the breakdown in investor reports.

Soyny started turning things around late 2009 when the PS3 slim launched. The slim came with a price drop down to $299. The Blu-gay feature made it a better proposition than the 360 which stuck with DVDs, not to mention the HD-DVD add-on, which tanked.

It was odd how Microsoft went all in on the Kinect a year after Wii’s sales dropped, indicating the waggle fad was over. Then making that a key feature with the Xbone launch was even more puzzling.

Maybe in Japan this mattered, but it definitely didn't in the US. Bluray won the format wars, but yearly sales were never even half of what DVD did during its heyday. Plus by 2009, bluray players were quite cheap and you could find them for around $100. And also the streaming revolution had started to take off and most people bet on the future being streaming rather than physical media.

I think the bigger factors were just better games and free online play. 2009 was the year where we got Uncharted 2, Ratchet and Clank, Demon's Souls, and Killzone 2. The fact that all the multiplats were also available made it kind of a nobrainer.

Another thing I vaguely remember - PS3 had some insane bundles around this time. Some of them had two whole games in them and they even had sportsball slop bundles for the normies. I can't remember any good Xbox bundles from this period (if someone knows what kind of stuff was on offer, please correct me).

It’s also puzzling how Sony came in at the same time with Playstation Move, an even more shameless Wii knockoff, which also tanked, then brought it back for the PS4 as part of PSVR, and no one ever mentions any of this. As always, it’s okay when Sony does it.

At least Kinect tried to do something new. PS Move was just a Wiimote with a plastic ball strapped to it.
