I saw this news earlier and I honestly don't get it. They are hurting on sales recently and verified rumors about ceasing releasing singleplayer exclusive games on pc again. The only thing I can think of is they're preparing for GTA 6 where Sony doesn't have overal exclusivity but they do have advertisement priority and exclusive content for Sony version of GTA 6. I guess they're betting on people who don't own it yet to still be willing to buy it for GTA 6 and not wait a year or two for pc release?
The issue with that is that it's assuming GTA 6 does so well that it's worth spending $900+ on a console. I've upgraded from the 4 to the 5 because I wanted to be ahead of future releases so I didn't have to upgrade later. I know the PS5 has no games, but Sony is not helping with people who are not trying to spend an arm and a leg on a console when it's just easier to buy a PC. Not even kidding, I switched to PC pretty recently because I am so tired of having to pay $70 for new releases of games that are slop. I'd rather spend a grand on a new computer and just pirate games then shilling to AAA companies.

At this point, I could buy a brand new GPU that can run modern games at 120FPS+ and it'd still be cheaper than buying a PS5 Pro lol. If Sony and Microsoft were apart of Steam's PR team, they are working overtime.

Even the PS5, a console model released in 2020, is going up too? Amazing.

Okay so, they have vastly increased the entry price for the Playstation, meaning that it is now sigificantly harder for the core audience base to get into their ecosystem.
Isnt Sony trying to break away from the console exclusives strat these days? They could just be losing faith in the Playstation brand as an exclusive market and pushing more towards hedging bets by putting Playstation exclusive IPs onto other systems/PC

if they really wanted to make money just put the entire PS2 and PS1 games catalogues on as many systems as possible. No one wants this new trash but everyone loves old games

Just save up and buy a computer on sale at this point, give tithe to Lord Gaben via his Steam sales, genuinely wtf is the point of consoles these days the entire industry seems to think making you pay more for a worse experience is a great business strategy.
They could put out Bloodbourne 2 and I wouldn’t even be tempted for a moment at this point, and when I say that you know it’s over because the only two games I’ve ever really played on PS4 was Bloodbourne and Elden Ring.

Nine hundred dollar no games machine
+$30/month to play no games online with nobody because everyone will sell their PS5 to buy petrol.

brb off to gloat on a sony forum where shills shot me down for explaining how the PS6 will be $1000+ because the PS5pro is $699. Their counter-argument was "Sony will drop the price". The price has dropped from $699 to $999. If we're lucky, Sony will drop the price to $1299.

On a serious note, I can see why Sony proper separated themselves from Playstation. Playstations retardation was going to sink Sony.

There's zero reason for the base PS5 to get a price hike. It's an APU from 2020 fabbed on a relatively budget process node. Even with the RAM problems, it's only 16 GB of GDDR6. All in, the BOM on a base PS5 can't be more than $300-$400 even if we're being extremely generous to Sony.

This is literally just taking advantage of macro uncertainty to do a squeeze.

I called the ps5 pro launching at $700 despite pretty much just being a $400 digital ps5 model with more ai the "concord tax". I guess this price hike is the marathon/bungie tax.

Did they actually call controller triggers and rumble vibration bad features because Xbox had them? That's something I don't get: shooters on PlayStation use L1/R1, not L2/R2. It doesn't even FEEL like a gun trigger.
Yes at least for Rumble Vibration. It was called an outdated feature and Sony fanboys on sites like IGN (which segregated staff into covering specific consoles and yes the Sony guys were the worst) claimed to be cool with it only to champion the feature coming back with the Dualshock 3 after the Sixaxxis failed spectacularly

What a bunch of pussies. Whip your dick on the table and charge a grand! Don't even do $999.99, straight up $1000.00. Just say "FUCK YOU BISHES! Our system is worth it (doesn't have to be true)! It's got a gold plastic and spinning rims god damn it!" Shit, throw in a baseball cap with an extra sticker on it for another $200.00 so everyone knows you have it. I've watched Judge Joe Brown, half of those cases are about who owns a playstation. Fuck it.

They wouldn't be able to make them fast enough.

This is called "supply and demand." You see, when your supply doesn't go down due to lack of demand, what you want to do is raise the price of the good. That way, when there is a demand, you'll make more profit! This is business 101, people.
Increased shipping costs and prospective distress in the microchip and chemicals industries due to the Iran war is probably what's going on.

I just came in to say I saw the news, and although I said it was the case before I'm now officially not playing GTA VI on release cause no fucking way in hell I'm buying a PS5 for that price.

i guess im glad i only spent $500 instead of $600 lol
I'm glad I only spent $0
