It's a silly sounding word most commonly associated with the cartoon character Snagglepuss. One of his catchphrases is "heavens to murgatroyd" which is kind of a sillier version of the expression "heavens to betsy" which is a statement of surprise. The word murgatroyd has it origins as a last name of British origin.
There is also one more pop culture reference to the name/word murgatroyd that I'm aware of. In the 1984 old school hip hop/electronic song "Jam On It" by Newcleus one of the characters in the song asks another "have you seen my sister murgatroyd?" Again probably used for comic effect.
Unfortunately, the proper spelling of murgatroyd was taken when I registered so I altered the spelling slightly.
