wow i played this game on a penny arcade server during the early Obama admin for a few hours, got bored, then left. A total trip to see so many people dedicate their life to it for two decades, it had a lot of potential. I'm guessing all of these people overcomplicated the game the way paradox molders do?

I don't know, but funnily enough that does remind me how every server had to change the name of the meatball item due to Github's new standards saying you can't have anything homophobic in your code, guess what every codebase including /tg/ set its name as before those rulings.

they changed faggot to meatballs years ago, but I think that was because someone reported their github to microsoft for having the word nigger in it somewhere, so they went apeshit and purged a ton of words from their code.

I wanted to Post some photos to prove this but honestly I just don't have enough time to find them all. Lummox not knowing about randy or having superficial knowledge of him makes utterly no sense, Lifeweb at many times in Byonds history was the single most popular and played server, if I had the photo of lifeweb's three servers totally full at 120 players each from 2016, I would post it here.
the reason why having randy in the changelogs is so crazy is because most people have to BEG lummox to do shit since he's so lazy, but time after time, fixes requested by randy are put in, again, Lummox fully 100% knows that randy runs a server on his platform that has and encourages CHILD RAPE to their players.
You can go on the Byond fourms, or even the Byond Discord and see Lummox and Randy having conversations, imagine you saw Purlek or Aphosis775 randomly in the changelogs after all the info about them coming out, it would be community suicide to involve those people publicly to Byond. but Randy gets a pass.
Right now, Scorcher is debatably the Most Profitable ss13 server in Byonds whole history, making over 10k in it's first few months running.
all of this is just to say it's impossible for this to be just some random nobody lummox works with sometimes, Lummox himself is part of the issue because realistically, if you made an account in 2015 as a 14 year old, you could then just be allowed access into lifeweb in 2016, still as a kid, since thats how the server worked back then, only accounts made pre-2016 could join. so because Byond is 13+ , Lummox himself is at fault, at any point he can make the whole website only for adults, or change how account creation is done, (or just shut down all the servers) confirming ages of people ect, but no. none of that will be done on a website that is most well known for running 18+ ERP server for pedophiles. instead the site pretends to be made for children. awesome.

After being removed, on the date above, Apophis775 revealed to the community that Feweh had used 16 alt accounts within the ss13 subreddit to challenge, leak and mock decisions made on CM. He also attacked other servers.
I really only know the bare basic, I know he was friends with Apop, as messages he posted said he used to text apop to change the map
(For a young veteran like me, the admins had to change the map in old CM, meaning if the mins picked Ice Colony, by fucking God you played that ladder hell map for weeks)
To answer why people would dev for SS13, there's a big focus on personal reputation from what I've seen. It's a need to be constantly seen. Tom Dinkle (may his soul rest in peace) knew this and purposely left the community for this exect reason. In his video, he describes constantly checking to see if people were talking to him and other crazy behaviors. Being seen and known gets you easier access and a place in the 'legends' of a server. I've seen hundreds to thousands of names on CM, but I can only list a dozen names I remembered and played with.

My nigger, every single person who submits a bug report on the byond forums and has their bug fixed gets their name in the changelog. This is not ome super special friendship between Randy and Lummox. Randy reports bugs on the forums more than most other SS13 programmers, so his name pops up more often. This is not a difficult math problem.
And to think Lummox has any idea what goes on inside of SS13 is laughable. To call him apathetic towards SS13 is a gross understatement. He likely could not name a single SS13 member that hasn't spoken to him directly multiple times, let alone know what happens inside of servers. I am unsure why you are so dead set on thinking Lummox is some kind of secret pedophile when the simple truth of the matter is he does not nor has he ever given a damn what happens inside of SS13's sphere.

if you run a website that is 13+ and allow adult content, you are willingly allowing pedophiles to use your website. it doesn't matter if lummox is jerking off to skyrim milf porn all day, his actions or direct in-action allow this type of behavior to continue.

I vaguely remember the Feweh incident. I have scraped through a few reddit threads for context as well.
Feweh had a tendency to power trip, as did Apophis775; hence why both admins were disliked at the time. Feweh was more of the abrasive asshole who liked to hilariously roast players, and Apophis775 was more of a self-important know-it-all saltfag. Both were ban-happy as far as I can remember, Feweh himself was in hostchat and was probably one of the masterminds behind the idea of global bans between servers (Archive)
Feweh was the more popular of the two admins due to having some wit and a parasocial following of orbiters. There were rumors that Feweh and Apophis had a few disagreements with each other behind the scenes, so people usually were on team Apophis or team Feweh in terms of server culture.
A few reddit threads would often pop up on CM regarding development and game decisions Apophis was making at the time, apparently hostchat leaks were also happening around this time. This context is important.
The Feweh alt incident happened along these lines:
1. Feweh apparently used to flirt at ColonelCorazon - an actual woman. He allegedly would ask her if she was single or married and also called her his no.1 slut when she first joined.
2. ColonelCorazon sadly did not like this godly Feweh rizz. She asked him privately to stop seducing her with his Canadian ways.
3. Feweh agrees to stop doing this and seemed apologetic.
4. According to ColonelCorazon, one of her friends (anonymous) snitched to her about Feweh in the CM discord voice chat, that he continued to call her his slut and insult her to other players despite their agreement, which makes her open an admin complaint thread on Feweh for admin misconduct. According to her friend, this happened.
6. Feweh's orbiters flock to the rescue to defend him from horrific feminist allgaytions.
7. Feweh denies everything, changes his profile picture to the beloved Harvey Weinstein:
8. Feweh is removed from post by the CM admin team and he then makes an announcement and thread signaling his departure.
9. The exact same alts that were shitting on Apophis's dev decisions begin to attack Corazon on reddit.
10. Admins get suspicious, and somehow they manage, perhaps through reddit's alt ban system to link these accounts together. It is unsure how they managed to link it to Feweh specifically, but they decide they were his.
11. Feweh is banned from CM.
12. One of the accounts supporting Feweh leaks the CM codebase which was private at the time onto reddit, it is removed by reddit jannies and the github hit by a DMCA.
Speculation that Feweh leaked CM code as revenge but this was never truly confirmed. One detail is that once Feweh was banned, the leaks and Feweh praise on reddit magically stopped, so there is a chance they may have been accurate in their guess. Rumors say that Apop's win over Feweh led to his eventual public expose on being a shotacon as an act of revenge by one of his followers.

id consider dwarf fortress to be a special case since id argue it is the single biggest inspiration for the modern colony sim genre, SS13 due to the inherent nature of the game will be an obscure autism game. Speaking of creepy sex pests if you take a gander at kitfox (the studio zack and tarn work with) it paints an ss13-esque troon-aristocracy picture. Details covered in the dwarf fortress thread on here. The difference is DF is inherently a single player game where the community at large beyond the wiki is usually ignored by the dwarven masses, where as SS13 is inherently a multiplayer game where interaction and cooperation with other people is required even if at an absolute minimum, all lorded over by the tranistocracy.
Also now that the thread is open to all visitors welcome, if you take a look back earlier in the thread you can see MSO, the man who ran TG into an iceberg and proceeded to engage in intellectual discussion with the people here

Okay, Day Z then. Maybe a little less autistic, but similarly a multiplayer sandbox that generates cool stories. Imagine if, right as it was on the precipice of breaking into normieland, 90% of the server list suddenly became dedicated to cybersex and rape and replacing the playermodels with furries. I think that probably would have strangled it in its crib and we wouldn't have gotten any of the games inspired by it.
