Space Station 13 and Its successors communities - Lolcows and milk... In spess

Russians: Children and ERPers. Lots of funny drama but very little makes it over or can be understood by a non-Russian speaker.

Goob & EE: They're alright. Still a bit AIDS sometimes but more similar to SS13 room temperature. Probably the only reason to have any hope.

Delta V, Floof, etc. : There's 100 gorillion furry ERP servers where nothing happens in the game and it's basically just child grooming discord paradise. These actually make Wizden (the servers) look okay by comparison and serve as a reminder that it can always get worse.

Hullrot: Was cool for like 2 weeks, constantly exploding.

RMC: This is actually ran by the wizden zoophile sex pest and some people don't realize that. One of its admins is also a furaffinity global admin.

Private servers: They're all literally just private furry grooming clubs even if they have a reputation for being a bit chuddy. Remember that 90% of the "chuds" flying around is just inter-tranny infighting. There is no party active at all similar to Hippie, Rivera, Sharty, etc.

Other forks: Fall on the spectrum between Goob and Delta V. This entire game is pozzed top to bottom so keep in mind how narrow the spectrum is.
RMC has the same issues as CM13 did except with more trannies. Goob has it's fair share of trannies too, most of the playerbase is children and the head maintainer is a manchild.

Moral High ground culture
For SS14, their top 2 issues are (1) fictional character rights and (2) being able to talk like JustinRPG about your weird cartoon fetishes in #general without being called a weirdo. Despite calling everyone who dislikes them a right winger as a cope, the only substantial issue I have ever seen them stand up for for more than a week or two is trans rights. They removed 'free palestine' pretty quickly and ban anyone who asks why. It's known very few of them work, and the more I dig the more I learn for the majority of them this isn't because they're on a tugboat, it's because they live off of their well-off parents. It's actually maybe worse than Tumblr in its heyday, where at least those people weren't afraid to hold some extreme beliefs about things that actually affect real life. It's not 'infantile leftism', the pervading political ideology is just infantilism. Sometimes literally

tg/ drama just dropped, I've just archived it in case jannies get to OP's post, we all know how quick they are with that:
Jan jans just swept the post on the account of rule 3 (Show me the pictoral ebidance bissh!)

Apparently there is some culture war going on between the RP and nonrp servers of tg. The American nonrp server is just fucking dead population wise due to people getting tired of eachother and leaving. The guy that got banned and cried to reddit went on the RP server and was being a sperg, which he got a week ban for.

So apparently the people playing on the American nonrp server just keep throwing out excuses for why people got tired of playing with them and went to other places. They'll blame Jannies, they'll blame coders. But never blame themselves.

This sperg in particular huffed and puffed and demanded a ban as protest for being told to stay in his destroyed sandbox.

From what im understanding, these dudes made Vekter a figure head for 'everything they see wrong on the admin team'. So because the admin told them to stop being retards by recalling the shuttle to ensure nobody sruvives every shift, this dude saw fit to call him a pedophile and refused to ellaborate, since he knew he had nothing.

From what i've gathered through PMs, Vekter's a banbot at worst, calling him a nonce over being told to follow the rules is retarded. I can see why nobody wants to hang out with these freaks.

Oh well, time for vanderlin.

TG didn't even have an MRP server until a few years ago and it has since killed the US LRP servers.
Probably the biggest factor in the decline of the LRP servers was when the admin team started issuing quality control bans directed at LRP players, some of which to this day have not had the evidence for why they were banned released to the general public. It's at that point you can trace the gradual decline to where it's dead now. If you cull the most active players you'll eventually kill the playerbase.
The only question is where all the LRP players went.

Such as?

Specific noteworthy examples would be sinfulbliss and some other player were blacklisted from the servers. The reason given was that they were conspiring to cause targeted admin burnout by coordinating frivolous ban appeals or something but the evidence was never provided.
I suspect the bigger reason was they often argued with MRP admins in the forums over the general direction of the servers. Sinfulbliss was also accused by admins of being a power gamer and a sec validhunter but I consider these claims irrelevant for an LRP player and my personal experience was that he didn't round remove antags automatically so I don't think that was a fair accusation.
They were issued the same level of punishment MSO received for killing the servers altogether for weeks and then trying to personal army the kiwifarms against tgstation. Alternatives could have for example been forum bans and the admins could just ignore their ahelps, seems like picking fights with the jannies made them worse than MSO considering we at least know 100% why MSO was blacklisted.
Also I have no evidence of the effects but the policy of shared bans between LRP and MRP in principle hurts only LRP. An LRP player playing normally can get a ban from an MRP ruleset but an MRP player playing normally won't get a ban from an LRP ruleset. I don't think LRP and MRP can really coexist with the same admin team.

Simply don't play on the MRP server then, it's really not that hard.

theyre prolly playin roblox
This I think is closer than you think. The usual explanations given here and elsewhere -- people aged out, awful pedozootroon admins drove everyone away; those are not incorrect. But they can't explain more than a small portion of what happened.

Spacemans is a victim of the same phenomenon that happened to e.g. arena FPS and RTS. You had a genre that crammed a bunch of people who aren't actually that similar together. As the gaming landscape matured, there's a lot more options available now. For example, RTS players split between base building games, grand strategy, etc. and the traditional basebuilding style is only a small portion of the original genre now.

The past decade has seen the complete mainstreaming of roleplaying, starting from tabletop but spilling out. If you look at any game (or even medium), you can get exactly the kind of experience you want. So, where are all the players? Literally scattered to the winds. ARMA, Paradox GSG RP campaigns, GMod, GTA, Roblox, virtual tabletop roleplaying, etc etc. Tailored to exactly what they want. Those all draw fucking insane millions of players that would make my 2010 era pc gamer ass used to server browsers with maybe 100 people across all servers on a lively game go wtf.

Now, let's look at what distinguishes SS13 from most of these:
1) No voice chat. You either have to like text for its advantages, or MAYBE you really don't want to use your microphone for some personal reason.
2) You can roleplay having a job and hanging out in the bar. Most of the other ones are about being an adventurer, mercenary, soldier, etc. You have a different fantasy.
3) You don't need to know anybody and can log on and play with randoms; regardless, the experience is highly curated.
4) The game will run on basically any machine.
5) You want an extremely high degree of admin intervention in case anything happens to your character.

So, what we have left are 2 groups. The first are people who like the unique aspects of SS13, i.e. the equilvalent of Quake 3 or StarCraft Brood War grognards.
The second group, now dominant and having made the game their own, are people who have nobody to play with, are ashamed of their voice, want to log on and pretend to have a job and friends, and have an all-powerful authority figure to run to if anything bad happens to their character. Hmm.

That works until there's no longer an American LRP server to play on.

I mean he's an LRP player it's a given he's an annoying sperg but if his track record for bad behavior after the blacklist is a 90 minute ban over a year ago and another ban that was lifted I don't see how he's the big menace that deserves a complete server ban. And like I said they never posted the evidence from the metacord. I don't see a problem that couldn't have been solved with just a forum ban and the date of that blacklist in my opinion roughly correlates with the gradual decline of Sybil. I think it's a reflection of a change in admin culture.

sinfulbliss was previously permabanned for multikeying, and he was part of a discord server that included admins who would, amongst other things, leak user ip addresses

he was blacklisted 'cos he went complaining to mso after scriptis got batcaved and shared the contents of that discord server. there were legit people there planning to do autistic shit in the forums to piss off admins. very homossexual nonsense, and you already know how retarded mso is when it comes to a measured response

i dont think he was like conspiring and shit but he went to practically every ban appeal in the span of a couple of months to rules laywer

i dont even think it was malicious, he was trolling and was a dumbass. had very few friends amongst tg admins, including lrp. the admin who unbanned him from the multikeying ban admitedly regretted doing so

the other person who was blacklisted was animetiddies (known as pepper). i got no fucking idea why he got blacklisted it made no sense at the time. all i remember was how much butthurt he was for losing the headmin election at second place

I wonder what you guys think of voice chat; I might be a little nuts here. It seems like, for SS14's engine RT, there's always been this extremely hostile reaction to the mere suggestion of ever adding support voice chat, if a codebase wants it. The stated reason is usually that it's not something in classic SS13. Well (1) the engine is supposed to be able to support games besides SS13 and (2) they don't seem to care about raping SS13's corpse with every other issue. And, thinking about it, it would make it a lot more obvious who's a kid, who's a creepy sped, who's a troon, etc. There's no way that couldn't be the true motivation and not 'preserving SS13's unique identity' (lol)

The problem with CM is that it was always the same boring alien mode every fucking time. Don't get me wrong aliens can be fun but dude... make it a real deal fucking muhreens oorah server and add more modes. That martian one was gay as hell, imagine if you fought rogue marines with the same weapons and everything or if there was a mode where half the crew would spawn as civilians/terrorists and as the marines you have to try to hunt down the insurgents who are blending in with the civvies. Just shit ideas I guess but having the same thing every day was just not fun.

The big issue is the playerbase and the server staffs. You can't have dysfunctional stations because the only people really allowed to do stuff are hyperautistic trannies.

One of their reasons are: "It makes playing ling/impersonator impossible", but that could be remedied with a voice filter/voice changer.
But we all know their actual reason is that they hate being clocked and they also hate being laughed at by a group of people in voice chat since it reminds them of their "tramatic experience" in School or anywhere else.

Again, since this would be at engine level, this would probably mostly be used on action-oriented servers (e.g. CM, maybe ship battle stuff), so gameplay concerns that specific wouldn't matter at all
