GDQ used to be very comfy to watch when it was in that guys mothers basement with the iconic brown couch, or when they did it in a single hotel ballroom. You really felt the passionate autism and knowledge people would have for games that were insane. They didn't always get amazing records, but it was fun to see them explain how they did things and the history speed running said game. Also it being such an autistic event too, allowed for many funny moments of nerds interacting with each other. Like the iconic caveman "be quiet" or that one chick crying during a run cause someone died and everyone just looked so uncomfortable. :story:


But like all good things that last long enough, it gets bastardize and just becomes endless slop of "TRANS RIGHTS" and the games took a backseat.

They don't even play games quick anymore with how often they go over estimate and fuck up the schedule because stalling to get one last "trans rights" dono in before the run ends is more important.

They are all three fun games if you like point and clicks.

And no one ever learned from their bad example. Smash is virtually indistinguishable from GDQ now and has been for a very long time. Hell, the whole FGC if we are honest. DnD is another example, so is WoD.

I never see anything about these speed running events on Reddit anymore. Most video game news doesn't get attention nowadays. Nobody wants to post about them as much after they lost the woke culture wars.
 
Is it a stretch to say that speedrunning exposed more people to transgenderism than Tumblr or anything else, at least back then? in 2017, when GDQ's infestation started, those fake gender blogs were niche and you had to go out of your way to find them, only a subset of a subset knew about them, and GDQ had loads of trannies. Like Narcissa (fitting name) and Protomagicalgirl
 
AGDQ and SGDQ 2019 were where the event peaked in terms of pure sideshow entertainment factor and tranny shenanigans. It's all downhill from there, in fact the exact moment the event jumped the shark for me was SGDQ 2019 where protomagicalgirl (who I'm fairly certain had/has a thread here) flashed his micro-pecker on the couch.

r/speedrun, unless something particularly noteworthy happens then a clip might circle other clip subs like livestreamfail.

The latter probably hasn't happened in years though.
