Would you look at that, there's a bunch of 'em uploaded on readcomicsonline dot com! At least I don't have to bother scanning the sonivabitch!

Here's the cover of this disasterpiece:

The artwork is not that bad in a sort of '90s kind of way. As someone who's a fan of the sort of exaggerated, cartoonish realism with minute details á la Todd McFarlane, Greg Capullo or Angel Medina, as well as Olyoptics style digital coloring, I can dig it:

That's not to say the art is all peachy keen. As you can see, the symbolism... well, maybe that's a strong word. ehm, the imagery is pretty heavy handed, and the art is more busy with being flashy and in-four-face edgy than with narrative coherence. The pages are pretty at glance if you're into the style, but you might need a few more look to get exactly what's going on.

The ugliest page of issue one is definitely this one:

The story's really not much to write home about. The plot follows the formula of "white trash does bad things to innocents, ICP shows up to punish them in brutal, superpowered ways". There's also some rival clown clan trying to publish their own Ep before the ICP or some shit. There's no tension, no drama, and very little signs of personality aside from the ICP being cool, edgy and zany as well as the bad guys being assholes. Thankfully the dialogue often hits the hilariously bad mark:

Overall it wasn't too bad, but it's also far from good. It's worth a few chuckles and the art's decent for the most part, but in the end it's just plain too generic and forgetable. Still, if this is your cup of tea, then by all means, keep eyeballing it, you scary bitch!

TBH as a cheap thing you got in a dollar bin at a flea market it's honestly not a bad find. If I found it at a flea market myself for a few bucks I'd probably buy it.
Yeah I know you said you can read it online but I like owning comics. Especially the weird ones.

What a nice little explanation of the ICP mythos!

I agree, for a flea market find this was indeed a decent find. especially since I have a thing for the more obscure extreme '90s comic books. If nothing else, i'll definitely flip through it every once in a while for the art. As convenient digital comics can be, it's always nice to have a honest-to-god book you can hold in your hands.

I was gazing at my copy of the complete Eltingville Club which was about a group of teen boys who personified the worst aspects of comic book and geek culture (the male aspects). I've played around with the idea of a fan-comic of what the female version would be and parodying the worst aspects of the female comic and geek culture. What kind of aspects have you seen since I'm trying to think of a fourth member (not counting Will who's planning to join.) Any ideas for stuff?

Jen: She's pretty much Jessie from Saved by the Bell if she was into geek culture and didn't have a boyfriend. Gets her thinking from The Mary-Sue, Fangs For the Fantasy and other SJW/feminist geek sites.

Sakura: A 1/8th Japanese weeboo who is the parody of those dim, excitable anime/manga geek girls. (Her real name is Emily.)

Hailey: An obese, homely girl who covers the cosplay part of the fandom. As much as she loves her hobby and wants to do it professionally (Yaya Cosplay is her hero), she's blind to the fact that she sucks at it and picks characters that are all wrong for her build. God forbid, you don't think she looks fabulous.

Abby: Is the awkward new girl who is thinking of joining the club. While she is the sanest and nicest, she can be just as vicious as the rest of the cast if pushed hard enough.

Brenna: Jen's hot cousin who fills the fake geek girl niche. She's mainly into it because she gets attention and can hurt and bend geeks to her will. (One of the main antagonists.)

I'll throw out some general types I've seen:

  1. The one who tries way, way too hard to prove she's not a fake geek girl and applies her encyclopedic knowledge of comic books/whatever in a manner that makes her look like a know-it-all cunt.
  2. The experienced weeb who looks down on American comics because Japan is so much cooler!
  3. The Visual Novel fangirl.
  4. A whole team of yaoi fangirls and the one lesbian yuri fangirl.
  5. "I STREAM HARD VIDEO GAMES WITH MY TITS OUT BECAUSE YOU KNOW FUCKING WHY"
  6. That one weirdo who likes Korean manhwa and goes into frothing rage when people lump it in with manga.
  7. Ghibli-only fangirl
  8. The one who's into really obscure shit no one else has heard of-and ONLY those

I'll come back if I think of more.

That "America" comic Marvel's bringing out looks fucking awful and obnoxious from the cover alone, Jesus. I hadn't heard of it until I visited my local Comic shop the other day, but holy balls that's one obnoxious looking character and expression.

What the hell's up with Marvel these days? Either they're making comics that would either only be approved by Jezebel/Tumblr or something out of the Alt-Right's wet dreams.

Jesus. Will people actually buy this garbage?

It's simple really and I'll pull out the screenshots of them saying it themselves if you want them. Comics are a dying medium and Marvel gets the most bang for their buck by pissing off the fanboys to turn them into advertisements when they complain about it everywhere. More people will buy bad comics either out of spite or to see the trainwreck themselves on top of the fanboys who will always buy Marvel to get their X-Men or Spider-Man fix. Very few of them actually drink the kool-aid and are just milking controversies to get under people's skins for profit. This is also why we've had stuff like Norman Osborn knocking up Gwen Stacy in the 2000s back when this attitude first took hold.

You could always flip this. Make her a legit but secret geek girl who is publicly her school's Alpha female, captain of the cheer squad, whatever, and is dating some Chad personified type but is terrified her Mean Girl peers will find out about her comic book collection/Amiboos/fixation on Lord of the Rings LARPing/Yaoi fanfic fixation, whatever, etc. An example, in novel form.

As a goobergator my first thought when I saw that was Anita Sarkeesian in blackface, not some pround latinx womxn.

Woooow. The coloring makes Nanbaka seem pleasant to look at by comparison . Also, Hitler just randomly popping up so Brownhilda can virtue signal suckerpunch her is literally Sonichu levels of stupid. What a lazy way to use time travel in a story. While they're at it, why doesn't Marvel just replace all the panels in its comics with pictures of Richar Spencer getting punched?

It's official: the general writing in Marvel has sunken below fan fiction quality. It's a miracle that the "house of ideas" is still able to occasionally publish decent comics like Old Man Logan or Venom: Space Knight. I'm positive most Kiwis here could write better dialogues when they were 12.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought the coloring was terrible. The people's skin looks so weird.

I think what really hurts my eyes is how the characters aren't colored all the way to their contours. They have this thin white line running along the black line art that doesn't make sense and is very unpleasant to look at. It's almost like the artist was using the fill bucket tool á la Dobbo and forgot to chose the "fill entire section" option.

Not to mention there's no real shading, either.

I also heard that there's a scene where America refers to the child she saves (despite looking like a girl) as "they" since she doesn't want to assume gender.

EDIT: You know an SJW comic book is bad when even a number of The Mary Sue's comment section are unable to defend it.

What's also interesting is the user reviews are a lot lower than the professional ones that are.
