This reminds of me of something I wondered a week or so go. So Batman has the Outsiders as his secondary team that he is associated with. Supes has the Leigon of Superheros. Even Aquaman had the Others in the New 52. What secondary team of heros that aren't really Justice League does Diana have? JLD, but that doesn't feel right.

It is and isn't, if that makes sense. Bruce and Selina will always get back together eventually, but the writers like to keep them both apart as loners, especially the ones who hate Robin and think Bruce should always be solo in the cave with only Alfred as backup. Also, it's funny referencing Peter/MJ considering Marvel is doing their best to keep them apart.

Personally, I wish they'd gone through with the marriage and just done what they do with Robin, have Bruce on his own in some stories and then occasionally Selina comes in to help or to sneak into the Batcave to steal some info, which Bruce and Alfred pretend they don't know about so she can still feel like an independent agent.

the issue is that noone's allowed to be happily married unless you're Wally West or Supes.
 
So i learned that Dsn Slott will be at Edmonton (which isn't far from where i live) Comics Expo this September, i still remember how badly he wrote Spider-Man

Slott is one of those people who I actively want out of the industry. He has no orignal ideas and continues to bloat Spider-Man with pointless Spider-people. He is also fat and a liar

Kids need more talent in their writers though. Slott just doesn't get Peter Parker and the drama of his civilan life which can get just as insane as his Spider-Man life.

Honestly, that's why I've gotten really into Ranma 1/2 as my first real manga I ever got into. It reminds me of a less serious classic Spider-Man and its just fun.
 
people on twitter are insisting that Dr Doom and scarlet witch and so on need to be played by Romani actors because 'the characters are romani' and it's making me feel insane. They were never Romani, they were generic eastern europeans from a made up country somwhere in the region of Latvia. Until fairly recently if someone in a comic was from anywhere east of Germany then they were either a commie, a criminal, or a gypsy.

The push recently for 'Doom is Romani representation' and 'Quicksilver and Scarlet witch aren't white they're Romani' is kind of absurd to me, becuse their characterisation was always based off of lazy stereotypes about people from the Eastern Bloc. At once point in one of the games Quicksilver spoke Russian and for most of their publication history they were half German.

I actually don't care about retcons within the world of the comic, buy you can't retcon reality lol. Suggesting that Doom should be Romani in this new interpretation would be one thing, but stating that it's racist for him to not be Romani is dumb. He was never Romani, he was a generic Eastern European dictator. Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch were gypsies because they're supposed to be weird and foreign and untrustworthy with strange customs and mystic powers.

lmao the funny thing is that like, the strongest case is Doom and even then it's a very very tangential tidbit at best. It's not important for the Maximoffs to be Romani. They could be from any old world culture that justifies some of their behavior. Fucks sake, they could be mongolian or some shit.

If we want to go with the logic that an actor must be the same ethnic background as a character, then we'd never get anything done. Black Widow has to be played by a russian, Steve Rogers must be played by an irish-american, Tony Stark by a german-american, and god forbid you don't get someone from Central Africa to play Black Panther.

Idk about doom but if I remember right, magneto fathered quicksilver and scarlet witch, which makes them at least in part Jewish. So should they be played by half Jewish people? Also aren't romanis white like the samis? They're some combination of gypsy and slav and they look white. Are they gonna actually get the oppressed Romani gypsy slavs from Romania to play scarlet witch? The people who don't give a shit about Californian capeshit need representation? It's always bugged me how many shit writers and editors are in the industry who just cannot wrap their heads around a character having a good life outside of superheroics and think that misery = good character development. The reason Born Again is such a classic Daredevil story isn't because Matt loses everything, it's because after he does, he picks himself back up, gets back with Karen, and starts to get his life back together. But then Ed Brubaker took the wrong lessons for his run because every arc ends with Matt worse off than he was before until the only thing he has left is to go join The Hand.

Sure, put the hero through the ringer occasionally, heroes need to be challenged to be interesting, but you need to make sure they come out the other side having learned something, or gotten stronger, rather than it just be fucking with the character just for the sake of being edgy.

You getting them mixed up with Irish Travellers, who are white and sometimes claim to be romani. There is no evidence that they actually are. Roma look like a mix between middle eastern people and indians. Sami go from anywhere completely white looking to mongolian and inuit looking.

Edit: For the Doom thing, what fucking romani actors are they even thinking about?! You got a couple of Gitanos in Spain who are actors but that's fucking it. You got lots of french actors with Manouches roots but those are Sinti, not Roma.

Here is what I don't get about the Doom thing. If the point of Doom is that you don't see his face. Who cares what the person in the custome actually looks like? All you need is somebody with a good voice for Doom and a body double who is good at body language.

Also I think you could get away with casting somebody Latino as Tony Stark
