I really resent the constant incessant need to make Barbara black, they started it in Lego Batman, The Batman, Caped Crusader and now they are doing this in this world. So sick and tired of race swaps and this is just the first issue.
James "The Massa" Gordon is into the dark sisters I guess.

Still waiting to see if they race swapped Selina or not. Can't tell by the childhood photo.
I mean, I liked Court of Owls, but besides that he never did it for me. Last Knight on Earth looked interesting though, how was it?
I thought it was pretty lackluster compared to Old Man Logan. Joker felt pointless throughout the entire thing, it gave me the impression that they put him in it just for the cool visual of Batman with the lamp. At least its a short read.

Last Knight on Earth falls under the “old man imitators,” those comics that do nightmare futures where the hero has to return to set things right, all in the vein of Dark Knight Returns, Kingdom Come and Old Man Logan and are nowhere near as good.

DC did another where Wonder Woman was the last one left and wrapped Superman’s spine around her lasso.

They always suck because the definitive versions of those stories happened already and the dark future is always petulant and more often than not falls apart under scrutiny.

That and Scott's a neutered woke bitch.

The art in Absolute's good. But you notice he's doing Batman? Again. He's not writing Wonder Woman. For that they got...Kelly Thompson. And it's not a 'bad' idea. Which makes me wonder if Kelly is the face and other more talented men are giving her ideas.

It's so fucking frustrating, because after nearly a decade in the ghetto after John Byrne's run ended she got a period of six or so years where she got to actually be in the hands of talented creators.

That's the first I'd heard of her. Jesus Christ, the fuck is wrong with Marvel writers? I checked her wiki page and saw there were links to the creator's tweets about her and he's so fucking into it, it's creepy...
What the fuck is wrong with that stupid faggot?

People don't like it but I love Batman '89.
It feels so strange and has a weird vibe.

This costume is really cool, also the blackface joke is funny lol

That Wonder Woman one sounds retarded, but whatever. I'll give it a miss.

Speaking of "Old Man Imitators" I always thought Daredevil: End of Days was a missed opportunity. Bendis and Mack even admit they're just ripping off Citizen Kane at the end of the first issue. Klaus and Bill did a solid job on the art, but a story about Daredevil's death and the fallout from it could have been so much more.

But at least Matt didn't give anyone cancer from radioactive jizz.

I view End of Day's as a comedy. Mainly because Matt has so many kids in the story that it its the most Matt thing ever

Haven't read new comics in years, snuck a few frames of new Killer Kroc in Batman: This Time We Mean It. He couldn't just be a disgusting sewer monster with scales that can barely remember his humanity, no. Now he has to be a personal friend of Bruce Wayne. Fuck, just make Joker his long lost brother at this point, you hacks. Dr. Evil him, no one will notice. Make every single villain a long lost something-or-rather.

Going back to ignoring comics.

Just picked up Amazing by Larsen. Always wondered why I felt his artwork was such a step down from Todd's. McFarlane's not tonally any better a fit than Larsen, worse in some ways. But unlike McFarlane who put out some awesome work Larsen's Spider-man feels weak and forced.

Then I saw the credits. Larsen was inked on most of his Amazing run. McFarlane? he drew and inked most of his run and it shows. It made me remember Larsen admitting in an interview I read somewhere that he phoned in some of his work at the big two, saving good ideas etc. It fits. He later replaces Todd on adjective-less and steps up his game. It's night and day there and it's clear he's trying to sell himself. Which it does.

Puts perspective on Erik and Todd and that Image era Spider-man.

Absolute Batman is quite alright, should I check out Snyder's other Batman stuff?
I can't recommend any of Snyder's Batman stuff in good conscience. His New 52 run has some of the worst retcons to the Batman mythos in its entire history, and what little I've read of Dark Nights: Metal was mind-numbingly stupid. cough cough, batmanhattan who laughs, cough cough

Don't do it. Especially if you like Mr. Freeze.

I actually did went ahead and read through Court of Owls. Heard everyone saying it was one of the best modern Batman stories, but besides the first couple of issues it didn't impress me that much.
The whole twist with the villain being Bruce's long lost brother (or maybe not...) was such a shitty close to the whole thing, I can see what you and Jspit were saying.

I'm making my way through Tynion's run, but mostly because have already read through the entirety of King's, so it can't get any fucking worse than that shitfest.

Dark Nights Metal, The Batman Who Laughs and the sequel to Metal are probably the few comics I sold because I found them so uninteresting and somehow very hard to read (whoever came up with tiny red font in a pitch black box for the Batman Who Laughs dialogue can fuck off).

the Infected was a premise that could have been cool, working on mindbreaking characters and warping them into the "broken universe" equivalent or w/e.

Well, didn't work. At best we had what they did with Jim Gordon, which just didn't get executed too well. Blue Beetle? Not delved into deeply enough. Billy Batson, Supergirl, Donna Troy? Middle of the road and poorly executed. Hawkman? Now that did get focus but there's only so much you can do with him if you don't have the JSA/GA/Atom/Hawkgirl around to constantly explore, contrast, and whatnot.

I'm probably forgetting someone else in the midst of all this.

The idea of the Batman Who Laughs could have been used to greater effect. There were signs of interesting directions. I think Perpetua should have remained an unseen figure. Trying to use Lex Luthor and toss him aside wasn't outright bad, but the issue was that the entire thing just seemed to favor spectacle over anything genuinely interesting. Like, you can be a mediocre writer and still do something interesting. Like, Geoff Johns GL Rebirth was enjoyable and set up stuff. Sinestro Corps War and Blackest Night were also enjoyable enough. This shit with the BWL just fell flat. Way to blow through all the potentially fun setup from Grant Morrison just to go and waste it on extremely poorly executed results.

Funny you mentioned that. I have been rereading his run and the amount of asspull he pulls off to make Jordan a dindu in Rebirth is ridicilous. I think his run is decent but he should have let Jordan rot.
i mean, Parallax being a lovecraftian parasite wasn't a bad idea.
